USA and Australia to open inaugural Women’s World Championships

World Para Ice Hockey has announced that Australia and United States will face off in the historic opening game of the inaugural Women’s World Championships, set to take place next month in Dolny Kubin, Slovakia.

The tournament will kick off on 26 August at 16:00 (local time) with Australia vs USA, followed by Team World vs Canada later that evening. The full competition schedule was unveiled on Friday (25 July) to mark the one-month countdown to the first Women’s World Championships. 

Team USA headlines Group A, joined by Norway and Australia. Group B includes Canada, Great Britain and Team World, a squad composed by players from multiple nationalities. 

Group winners will meet the second-place teams from the opposite group in the semi-finals on 30 August, with the medal games taking place on 31 August. 

All games will be streamed live on the Paralympic YouTube channel. 

The tournament will be hosted at the Dolny Kubin Winter Stadium and will feature an all-women officiating crew. The World Championships is organised by the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Slovakia.

19: 30 – Team World vs Canada

27 August (Wednesday)

16:00 – Norway vs Australia

19: 30 – Great Britain vs Team World

28 August (Thursday)

16:00 – USA vs Norway

19: 30 – Canada vs Gret Britain

30 August (Saturday)

12:30 – Placement game 5-6

16:00 – Semi-final 1 (Winner Group A vs Second Group B)

19:30 – Semi-final 2 (Winner Group B vs Second Group A)

31 August (Sunday)

16:00 – Bronze medal game

19:30 – Gold medal game
