PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – In a major development in the multi-billion rupee corruption scandal in Kohistan, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has accepted the plea bargain request of the prime accused, Muhammad Ayub.

According to NAB sources, under the plea bargain, the accused has agreed to return Rs. 1.45 billion, and the approval for this has been granted by the NAB Chairman. Muhammad Ayub is accused of transferring a total of Rs. 3.45 billion through bank transactions.

Investigations revealed that the accused had purchased properties worth hundreds of millions of rupees in Islamabad, Abbottabad, and Mansehra, which have now been frozen by NAB. The auction process for these properties is expected to begin soon.

NAB stated that the approved plea bargain application will be presented in the accountability court within three days, and upon completion of legal proceedings, the recovered amount will be deposited in the national treasury.

It is important to note that this case pertains to alleged embezzlement and fake contracts in development projects in the Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing an estimated loss of Rs. 40 billion to the national exchequer. NAB’s investigation and recovery efforts in the case are ongoing, with further arrests expected.
