Starfield fans prepare for disappointment following an update regarding its next highly anticipated expansion.
When Bethesda launched Starfield in 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X/S, it was met with a mixed reception from fans, a game commonly dubbed as “Skyrim in space”.
However, for a game that was as hyped as this, it was always going to be an uphill task living up to its fans’ expectations, let alone exceeding them. Yet, after several content updates and bug fixes, Starfield is a fun adventure nonetheless.
Roughly a year after the launch of the base game, Starfield received its first expansion, Shattered Space, which is included in the game’s Premium Edition at no extra cost.
In our review of Starfield: Shattered Space, GAMINGbible’s Kate said: “This expansion, while hardly ground-breaking, reminded me of just why I enjoyed the base game so much in the first place. I only wish this DLC had been a tad bolder in the realisation of its vision.”
When talking to the YouTuber, MrMattyPlays, Bethesda’s chief, Todd Howard, confirmed that Starfield would be getting a second expansion with its “Year 2” of content.
Naturally, stating that the second expansion would arrive in “Year 2” led many fans to fairly assume that the expansion would arrive in 2025, a year after the release of Shattered Space.
Sadly, as reported by TheGamer, that no longer seems to be the case, at least according to industry insider NateTheHate on ResetEra.
“Another DLC expansion is still to come, though it doesn’t seem like it’ll make it to 2025 at this point,” claimed NateTheHate.
Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, both Starfield and Shattered Space were released in the month of September.
It would make sense for the second expansion to release in September this year. But with it only being two months away at this point, I’d assumed that Bethesda would have officially revealed it by now.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more about the second expansion. Starfield is included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
