PlayStation 5 Pro is getting its next 8K game, bringing the grand total of Sony’s enhanced and pricey console to a whopping five!
When the PlayStation 5 Pro launched in November last year, it came with the hefty price tag of £699.99, and that is without a disc drive.
If you wanted to play physical discs, then you need to spend another £100 for that luxury, and don’t get me started on the console having no vertical stand, another expense on top of what you’ve already spent.
Some of the main selling points of the PlayStation 5 Pro are being able to play games in 4K at a smoother 60 frames-per-second. Some games can even achieve 100fps, as long as you have a compatible TV.
While the standard PlayStation 5 is technically capable of 8K, it lacks the processing power to make games worthwhile. Which is why you’ll need to cough up the cash for the PS5 Pro, if that’s something you desperately want.
However, before you start throwing money at a retailer to pick up a PlayStation 5 Pro to play games in glorious 8K, it’s worth noting that the console has only just had its fifth 8K game announced.
As brought to our attention by PlayStation Lifestyle (via Push Square), Pure Pool Pro has now joined the elite 8K club along with Gran Turismo 7, No Man’s Sky, F1 24 and The Touryst (on the standard PS5 and not the Pro).
“We know this sounds like a tall claim, but the nature of the pool being fixed around the table, our relatively lightweight proprietary engine, and our initial pre-alpha testing before any optimisations leads us to believe it’s achievable,” developer Ripstone told Push Square.
Ripstone says that Pure Pool Pro will run at 60fps in a native 8K on the PlayStation 5 Pro, while the standard PS5 can achieve 120fps in a native 4K.
While I’ll never get excited over a pool video game, due to it not being my cup of tea, the graphics shown in the Pure Pool Pro trailer are impressive, it has to be said.
Pure Pool Pro does not have a release date at the time of writing, but it is currently scheduled to arrive at some point this year on PC and PlayStation 5.
