Prepare to face your fears from a new perspective. Late last year, developer Survios unleashed Alien: Rogue Incursion upon the world, using VR to transport players into the terrifying world originated by Ridley Scott in his classic 1979 sci-fi horror flick. Now, for those who don’t have a PSVR2 or a Meta Quest, the game has now been re-envisioned for PlayStation 5 and PC as Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition, and the official gameplay reveal trailer for Part One was debuted to audiences at San Diego Comic-Con. It now plays as a typical first-person shooter, casting players as a Colonial Marine on a mission to find a former squadmate, only to end up stranded in the desolate research facility of Castor’s Cradle. Part One will launch on both platforms on September 30, and pre-orders are now open today.
The footage opens on the icy planet of Purdan (LV-354), where the dark and snowy environment makes it easy for xenomorphs to skulk around just out of sight. That’s when the gunfire starts, and the game begins to channel the tense action of James Cameron‘s Aliens, with the creatures swarming. Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition will be a mix of both the thrills of fighting off the extraterrestrial threat and the chills of slowly traversing the dimly lit corridors of an off-planet research facility where disaster has struck and something could be lurking around every corner. The narration teases a story of scientists from Gemini Exoplanet Solutions reckoning with a lifeform they cannot control, leading to an infestation that kills everyone, though not before they could leave behind a single request — “Destroy them. Every last one of them.”
Armed with a motion tracker and various firearms, players, as Zula Hendricks, will explore the facility with their Synthetic companion, Davis 01, to find her squadmate and answers as to what happened at Castor’s Cradle. The xenomorphs being experimented on in the facility ran wild, with eggs everywhere and facehuggers ready to spring at Zula at first sight. Worst of all, though, are the xenomorphs themselves, which are more dangerous than ever in how they attack, particularly when there are several of them. As seen in the trailer, they can make quick work of the Marine if not careful, making each encounter life-threatening. All the action and terror will take place in crisp 60 fps with enhanced visuals for the Evolved Edition.
‘Rogue Incursion’ Isn’t the Only Big Gaming Project in the ‘Alien’ Universe
The original VR version of Rogue Incursion was already a big hit for Survios, earning a score of 75 on the review aggregator Metacritic on PS5 and 80 on PC. At the time, it earned high praise for its story and environment, and how they fit into the overall vibes and mythos of the Alien universe. Part Two is on the way, though further details about how Zula’s mission will continue are scarce at this time, other than it will pit the marine against even deadlier challenges. It’s not the only notable Alien game currently in the works, however, as in October last year, Creative Assembly confirmed that a long-awaited sequel to the terrifying survival horror Alien: Isolation was in early development.
Alien: Rogue Incursion Part One – Evolved Edition is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 5 and Steam, with wishlisting open on the Epic Games Store ahead of the release on September 30. The standard edition will cost $29.99, while the deluxe edition will go for $39.99.
