UEFA Women’s EURO 2025: Two-time Ballon D’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí named Player of the Tournament

Two-time Ballon D’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí was crowned Player of the Tournament at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

The Paris 2024 Olympic footballer, who finished runner-up with Spain at EURO 2025, picked up the individual accolade after the final on Sunday (27 July) as the best player across the past month in Switzerland.

Bonmatí recorded one goal and one assist at the European tournament, including the winner in La Roja’s semi-final victory against Germany. The FC Barcelona played an influential role in bringing Spain to their first continental final, which ultimately ended in penalty shootout defeat to England.

The Lionesses defended their EUROs title from 2022 with another triumph in Basel, and it was 19-year-old starlet Michelle Agyemang who was named Young Player of the Tournament.

Agyemang, whose name of Akan origin from the Asante tribe translates to ‘saviour of a nation’ in Ghana, only made her senior debut back in April. She ends her debut tournament with two goals – both vital in returning England to the final – and a European trophy to cap it off.

Last but not least, the Golden Boot for the tournament’s top goalscorer was won by Spain’s Esther González. No one found the back of the net more than the Gotham FC striker, who scored four goals in six appearances for La Roja.
