Mollie O’Callaghan will attempt to secure another freestyle sprint double at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships on Friday, 1 August, in the women’s 100 free final on Day 6 of the swimming competition.
The Australian star, who secured the 200 free crown on Wednesday, is the heavy favourite for the event in Singapore, having secured the top time in qualifying.
Next up, People’s Republic of China’s former world champion Qin Haiyang will try to regain his 200 breaststroke title, as will Hungary’s reigning Olympic champion Hubert Kos in the 200 backstroke final.
Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist Kate Douglass of Team USA is one of the favourites to win the women’s 200 breaststroke final – which would be her first in the event before a thrilling finale in the men’s 4×200 free relay final.
In this morning’s qualifying session, Katie Ledecky topped the women’s 800 freestyle heats to tee up another showdown against Summer McIntosh tomorrow, with the Canadian chasing her fourth win in Singapore.
Elsewhere, Kaylee McKeown continued her charge towards another sprint double with the top time in the women’s 200 backstroke, while Cameron McEvoy qualified in second overall for this evening’s men’s 50 free semis, and Gretchen Walsh moved a step closer to her second win in Singapore after topping the women’s 50 butterfly heats.
The World Aquatics Championships — previously known as the FINA World Championships and often referred to as the World Swimming Championships — have been held since 1973. The Singapore edition marks the 22nd staging of the event.
