Six Of The Finest WorldTimer Watches

Whether you’re a global entrepreneur, an adventurous traveller circumnavigating the world, or frequently crossing time zones for a different reason, a worldtimer watch can be an essential tool. Being able to tell time all over the world at once, and adjusting your watch according to where you touch down next, is equal parts rewarding and practical. Things get even more satisfying if this is done with nothing but gears, racks, pinions and so on! So with this in mind, and the fact that we’re in the middle of Travel Season (summer holidays and all), here’s a look at six of the finest Worldtimer watches of the year so far!

Louis Vuitton Tambour taiko Spin Time antipode

Taking the revised Tambour as a stepping stone, Louis Vuitton reintroduced its emblematic Spin Time display to create the Tambour Taiko Spin Time Antipode. This fascinating watch features a unique worldtimer display, with rotating cubes suspended in the air to indicate the different time zones. In the middle, there’s a decorative map of the world that jumps on the hour, with the yellow pointer indicating the exact hour, and a central minutes hand. All this is powered by an in-house automatic movement and set in a white gold case. It comes on a beige calfskin leather strap with a white gold pin buckle. Limited to 50 pieces, it costs no less than EUR 110,000.

It looks amazing, has a relatively compact profile, a very easy-to-use worldtimer complication, and an in-house movement. All this, for EUR 3,760 on a textile two-piece strap, or EUR 3,940 on a steel bracelet! Two versions are available as standard, with either a silver or blue sunray-brushed dial. There’s also a series of six more colourful limited editions available, on a bracelet only. Andersen Geneve Communication 45

Marking 45 years of independent watchmaking by Svend Andersen, this is the Communication 45. This wonderfully vintage-looking watch takes its cues from Louis Cottier worldtimer watches developed for Patek Philippe in the 1930s, and restored by Svend Andersen when employed by the famous Maison. At 38mm across and 8.97mm in height, the yellow gold case is full of vintage charm. The dial is made of solid BlueGold, with a cognac finish and tapisserie-guilloché map of the world. The complication is powered by an automatic A. Schild S.A. movement, with an in-house module on top. Only 45 will be made, at a price of CHF 49,800.

Bovet Récital 30

When it comes to worldtimers, the difficulty is that there are not just one-hour time differences between the zones, but also four separate daylight saving varieties and half-hour zones to take into account. Bovet is the first to devise a mechanical solution to include all this in a single watch, initially with the complex Récital 28, and now with the slightly simpler Récital 30. Using a system of rollers, the pushers allow you to move through all the different possible time zones and daylight saving settings. The complex movement is set in a titanium or rose gold case, with textured rubber or leather strap options. It’s not limited, and costs CHF 68,000 in titanium or CHF 96,800 in gold.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic

The double-sided case of the Reverso presents a perfect secondary canvas for Jaeger-LeCoultre to add complexity to this genuinely iconic watch. The Reverso Tribure Geographic is the latest to welcome an additional complication, in the form of a worldtimer display on the reverse side of the swivelling case. It comes in steel or rose gold, with a blue or brown main dial and worldtimer indication. In addition to time across the globe, it also packs a Big Date for good measure. It comes with two straps in blue or golden and black (for the 150-piece limited edition in gold) for a price of EUR 23,000 in steel or EUR 38.200 in precious metal.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer

Packing a serious visual punch along with a mechanical one, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer by Omega is the boldest one on the list. The black ceramic case welcomes a worldtimer complication for the first time in over 20 years, which is finished in light grey or turquoise. At 45.50mm x 17.4mm, it’s quite a serious watch – whichever way you look at it, it must be said. The worldtimer function uses a world map in the centre with a two-tone hour ring just outside of it, and a two-tone city ring on the outer perimeter. The integrated structured rubber strap has Omega’s signature foldover clasp, and it retails for EUR 16,300.
