India’s best finish in the tournament is reaching the quarter-finals in the 2004 edition hosted by the People’s Republic of China.

The 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup will be held in Thailand. The hosts are qualified automatically while the remaining 11 for the 12-team tournament will be decided through the qualifiers.

For the qualifiers, 32 teams have been divided into eight groups of four. Each group will be played at a centralised venue.

After single-legged round robin matches, the eight group winners and the three best runner-ups across all groups will qualify for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, scheduled in April next year.

India have been drawn in Group D with Indonesia, Turkmenistan and Myanmar for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Record six-time champions Japan are in Group F while the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who are the reigning champions, are in Group A.

The Indian women’s football team will start its AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers campaign against Indonesia on Wednesday.

India had been training for the AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru. As part of their build-up, they travelled to Tashkent earlier this month to play two friendlies against the Uzbekistan U20 team.

After a 1-1 draw in the opening match, the Young Tigresses bounced back strongly to register a commanding 4-1 victory in the second.
