Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed that the construction of Jinnah Medical Complex be carried out in line with international standards of specialized healthcare, ensuring transparency, merit, and high-quality service delivery.
Chairing a high-level review meeting in Islamabad on the project’s progress, the Prime Minister emphasized that the hospital will serve as a world-class facility providing top-tier medical care to patients from all four provinces, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He further directed that various blocks within the complex be named after the provinces of Pakistan, symbolizing national unity and inclusiveness. The Prime Minister stressed that transparency and merit must be upheld in the construction process and staff recruitment, and instructed that third-party validation be ensured to maintain top construction standards.
To ease the burden on tertiary care hospitals in Islamabad, the Prime Minister also called for a comprehensive plan to strengthen the primary and secondary healthcare system in the capital.
Praising the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) as a successful example, the Prime Minister said, “By the grace of Allah, PKLI is serving patients excellently. We will make Jinnah Medical Complex even better, with internationally accredited healthcare facilities.”
He further instructed that all support services, including janitorial and other essential operations, should be outsourced strictly on merit.
During the meeting, officials briefed the Prime Minister on the progress regarding the hospital’s concept design, board formation, land acquisition, and the proposed adjacent commercial center.
It was informed that the concept design, land transfer, and board appointments are in their final stages. Geo-technical and social impact studies are underway to ensure the construction quality and assess the benefits for Islamabad and surrounding residents.
The meeting also included a timeline briefing for various project components and targets.
The session was attended by Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Syed Mustafa Kamal, PM’s Health Coordinator Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, PKLI Chairman Prof. Dr. Saeed Akhter, and other senior officials.
