ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan is gearing up for an extended holiday stretch next week, as Independence Day and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) are expected to fall back-to-back.
Nationwide celebrations have already commenced under the official “Marka-e-Haq” theme, referencing the conflict period with India from the April 22 Pahalgam incident to the conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos on May 10.
The Cabinet Division has officially declared Thursday, August 14, as a public holiday for Pakistan’s Independence Day. Events and activities are being held nationwide, echoing patriotic fervour and remembrance.
Chehlum, commemorated on the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is expected on Friday, August 15. Although not a federal public holiday, provincial authorities may announce local holidays. In 2024, the Sindh government granted a province-wide school holiday for Chehlum.
If provincial announcements mirror last year’s, a four-day holiday stretch is possible – from Thursday, August 14 to Sunday, August 17. As anticipation builds, authorities have been instructed to enforce strict security measures nationwide during both events.
