SHC extends stay on K-Electric CEO’s removal until September 12

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday extended its stay order against the removal of K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi until September 12, while hearing his petition challenging the Provincial Ombudsman’s order to remove him over harassment allegations.

During the proceedings, the Provincial Ombudsman submitted a written reply, declaring Alvi’s petition non-maintainable and urging the court to dismiss it. The ombudsman argued that a case regarding its jurisdiction is already pending before the Supreme Court, making SHC an inappropriate forum to decide on the matter. The female complainant also filed her written response.

Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro questioned what further relief the petitioner was seeking since the stay order was already in place. Advocate Abid Zuberi, representing Alvi, said an appeal against the Ombudsman’s decision had been filed with the Sindh governor. The complainant’s lawyer claimed the appeal had been rejected, but Zuberi countered that the hearing was scheduled for Monday.

Justice Kalhoro remarked that the petitioner had the legal right to appeal and that removing someone from office before the appeal’s decision would be unjustified. He stressed the matter should proceed at the Governor’s level before the court intervenes.

The court directed Alvi’s counsel to file a rejoinder and adjourned the hearing.

The Provincial Ombudsman had earlier ordered Moonis Alvi’s removal from his position on charges of harassing a female employee.
