Today marks the ninth anniversary of Real Madrid‘s third UEFA Super Cup. The city of Trondheim (Norway) was the scene of the victory over Sevilla (3-2) on 9 August 2016. The Whites took the lead with a fierce strike from Asensio, who was making his official debut as a Madridista that night.
Sevilla turned the score on its head courtesy of goals from Franco Vázquez and Konoplyanka, but Madrid did not give up and a header from Ramos in the 93rd minute sent the game into extra time, where they clinched the trophy. Carvajal decided the clash in extra time with a superb goal. This was the second victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup after the 2014 edition.
