Buck Moon 2025 and the Teapot

The 2025 Buck Moon rises on 10 July, marking the seventh full Moon of the year, and as was the case with June’s Strawberry Moon, it’s going to be a low one!

Exact timings and locations will depend on your location, but broadly speaking the Buck Moon will rise in the southeast from about 10pm local time.

And it really is a low Moon, because it’s located in the horizon-grazing constellation Sagittarius, in the middle of a star pattern that’s known as the Teapot.

What’s so special about the Buck Moon?

On the face of it, there’s nothing particularly special or distinctive about one month’s full Moon compared to any other full Moon of the year.

Be it a supermoon or a ‘micromoon’, or any other defining feature of a particular full Moon, they all look largely the same.

It’s the little things that make the difference, from one full Moon to the next.

Perhaps the full Moon you’re looking at is close to a bright star. Perhaps it’s low down to the horizon and so looks oddly huge, or slightly orange.

While the full Moon always just a regular full Moon, regardless of hype or whichever nickname it happens to have been given, the conditions under which we see it, and what’s in the sky around it, can vary considerably from one to the next.

The Buck Moon is so-called because it’s July’s full Moon, and that’s when male deers’ – ‘bucks’ – antlers begin to grow.

And that’s it. Nothing more than that. Don’t expect the Moon itself to look vastly different just because it’s called a Buck Moon.

What is worth noting about this full Moon, however, is that it will be right in the middle of an informal star pattern known as the Teapot.

The night sky is divided into 88 formally recognised constellations.

But beyond these formally recognised constellations, there are also informal star patterns that have become favourites among seasoned stargazers over the years.

Just as most nebulae seem to have a nickname of their own – ever noticed how so many nebulae seem to look like animals? – there are a few star patterns, known as asterisms, that are well-known among stargazers, even though not formally recognised.

The most famous example is probably the Plough, or Big Dipper, which isn’t a constellation per se; rather a star pattern within the larger, formally-recognised constellation of Ursa Major.

And this month’s Buck Moon will be right in the middle of one of those asterisms: the Teapot asterism within the constellation Sagittarius.

Like Sagittarius itself, the Teapot never really rises far above the horizon for those of us on more northerly latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.

If you’re in the UK, for example, the Teapot remains very close to the horizon, whenever it’s visible.

But further south in the USA – Texas, for example – you’ll see the Teapot and Sagittarius itself rise much higher in the sky.

However, on 10 July that bright full Moon will wash out many of the stars around it, meaning the Teapot may be tricky to see.

But now you know it’s there, you can return to it later in the month and explore it fully when the Moon’s out of the way.

There are lots of deep-sky objects in the Teapot asterism, and during the summer months, that region of the sky plays host to the bright core of the Milky Way.

Some even say the glittering band of the Milky Way looks like steam rising from the Teapot’s spout!

    Observing the Buck Moon

As for observing the Buck Moon – a full Moon – itself, opinion is divided.

Many astronomers and stargazers bemoan the sight of a full Moon because it washes out the rest of the sky around it.

That makes it difficult to see things like deep-sky objects, meteors and fainter stars.

Nevertheless, the sight of a bright full Moon is amazing in and of itself, and there are plenty of things to look out for, such as the Moon illusion.

Or whether the full Moon close to the horizon – as this one will be – appears slightly orange-coloured.

  • No lawful way to oust PTI’s KP govt, says CM Gandapur

No lawful way to oust PTI’s KP govt, says CM Gandapur

    • Constitution violated, mandate stolen, says Gandapur
    • 26th Amendment attack on judiciary: Gandapur
    • PTI founder ultimate authority on decisions, says party.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Tuesday reiterated the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) unity and warned that any move to topple the provincial government through constitutional means would not succeed.

“No matter how hard they try, our government cannot be brought down through constitutional means,” Gandapur said. “If anyone thinks they can topple our government, I challenge them — I will quit politics.”

“Anyone who thinks they can create divisions within PTI is mistaken,” CM Gandapur told a press conference as he was flanked by the central leadership of the PTI, following a party meeting in Islamabad.

The KP chief minister claimed that the day’s meeting conveyed a clear message of unity within the party.

“Our authority and this government belong entirely to the PTI founder. Whenever he gives the order, the government can be dissolved,” he said, adding: “You cannot achieve anything constitutionally.”

    ‘Attack on the judiciary’

Moving forward, he said that the Constitution had been violated and PTI’s mandate had been stolen. Gandapur condemned the 26th Constitutional Amendment, calling it an “attack on the judiciary” and a “blot on Pakistan’s judicial and democratic systems.”

“May 9 was just a pretext — the real target was our party’s founder,” he added, alleging lobbying efforts against PTI and that he was pressured to make statements against the PTI founder while in custody.

Gandapur alleged that he was taken across Pakistan and asked repeatedly to quit PTI. “Our mandate was first stolen, and then our reserved seats were snatched,” he said.

Regarding the Kurram issue, he said it was an inherited problem and the road had remained open for the last four months. “Talk to your neighbours, change your policy. A neighbouring country has defeated global powers, this border is not safe,” he cautioned.

He claimed there was a plan to impose an emergency in KP. “When the PTI founder was out of jail, he spoke about negotiations.”

    ‘Seats snatched’

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that PTI founder Imran Khan has always called for dialogue.

“We reviewed the letter concerning negotiations with detained leaders. He has always emphasised meaningful dialogue. Anyone eager to bring a no-confidence motion is welcome to try. Every plan will be executed only on the PTI founder’s instructions.”

He said PTI leaders were elected with the founder’s votes and that the goal of today’s meeting was to demonstrate unity. “After these developments, our seats were snatched. References were sent against our MNAs and punishments were imposed. When we requested meetings on KP’s budget, they were denied.”

Barrister Gohar asserted: “We will defend the KP government at all costs. Those wanting to bring a no-confidence motion lack the numbers. PTI’s government stands and will continue. If there are to be negotiations, concrete steps must be taken.”

For his part, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said that February 8 was historic — people came out in huge numbers.

“This is not a political war but a fight for rights. We will fight the PTI founder’s war and victory will be ours.”

PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram demanded a judicial commission from the Chief Justice to probe the deaths of imprisoned PTI workers. “Many were released after 10 or 11 months in jail — and most came out sick.”

PTI KP President Junaid Akbar said all party leaders from the National Assembly and KP Assembly were present at the meeting. “Despite internal differences, we will act on every order of the PTI founder.”

  • Manolo Marquez’s tenure as head coach of the Indian football team ends

Manolo Marquez’s tenure as head coach of the Indian football team ends

Manolo Marquez will be stepping down from his role as head coach of the Indian men’s national football team after the Spaniard and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) mutually decided to part ways.

The decision was formalised during an AIFF Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday.

The decision to part ways comes after India’s 1-0 defeat to lower-ranked Hong Kong China on June 10 in their AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2027 campaign. They played out a 0-0 draw against Bangladesh in the opening match of their qualification campaign.

“He did not resign. After discussions, it was mutually agreed that the AIFF and Manolo Marquez cannot continue as India (men) coach. Accordingly, he was let go,” M. Satyanarayanan, the acting general secretary of the AIFF, told Sportstar.

Manolo Marquez was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team in June last year. Under his tutelage, the Blue Tigers picked up just one win in eight matches – a 3-0 victory over the Maldives in a friendly in March.

India’s last competitive win in international football came against Kuwait under former head coach Igor Stimac, whom Marquez had replaced.

The Indian team has also failed to score a goal in their last three matches under Manolo Marquez.

Manolo Marquez took over the top job in Indian football after guiding Hyderabad FC to the Indian Super League (ISL) title in the 2021-22. He also won the Super Cup trophy with FC Goa earlier this year.

Last year, he juggled dual responsibilities, serving as head coach of FC Goa during the 2024-25 season while continuing his role as head coach of the Indian national team.

The Indian football team is currently ranked 127th in the FIFA Men’s World Rankings, having last broken into the top 100 in July 2023 when they reached the 99th position.

The Blue Tigers’ next competitive outing is scheduled to take place in October when they face Singapore in their third match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

India are currently rooted to the bottom of Group B in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers with one point from two games.

  • Keanu Reeves to front new documentary series covering Cadillac’s journey to the F1 grid

Keanu Reeves to front new documentary series covering Cadillac’s journey to the F1 grid

It has been announced that filmmaker and motorsport enthusiast Keanu Reeves will front a documentary series showcasing the behind-the-scenes story of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s effort to join the F1 grid.

Backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors (GM), Cadillac are preparing to enter F1 from the 2026 campaign, having received final approval to become the sport’s 11th team back in March.

With exclusive access granted by the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, TWG Motorsports and GM, the series will trace the creation of F1’s newest operation as they get set to debut at next year’s season opener in Australia.

Reeves’ own KR+SH company will partner with North One on the production, with the Hollywood star serving as host and executive producer a few months on from his Emmy win for the acclaimed Disney+ docuseries Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story.

It will be developed by Emmy-winning director and executive producer Simon Hammerson and three-time BAFTA-winning executive producer Neil Duncanson.

Audiences are promised “an intimate look at the unique challenges of assembling a competitive team on an accelerated timeline”, while receiving “a first-hand account of the vision behind establishing a distinctly American presence in a sport long dominated by European powerhouses”.

The series is set to air before Cadillac’s debut at Melbourne’s Albert Park in March 2026.

“I’m very honored and excited to be a part of telling the remarkable Cadillac Formula 1 Team story and its incredible journey into the world of Formula 1 racing,” said Reeves.

“Our goal with the docuseries is to bring audiences into the heart of this journey and showcase what it takes to participate in one of the most exclusive sports arenas in the world.”

Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, said: “This is a story of bold ambition and relentless drive. We’re honored to work with Keanu, whose passion and knowledge of racing runs deep, and proud to partner with GM on this incredible story.

“We have an opportunity to welcome a new generation of fans to Formula 1 and Keanu’s creativity is the perfect spark to ignite that journey.”

Mark Reuss, GM President, added: “General Motors and TWG Motorsports joined forces on a bold mission – to build a uniquely American Formula 1 team.

“It’s a thrill to have Keanu Reeves document the Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s journey to our first season in the FIA Formula One World Championship.”

Cadillac, who are yet to name either of their two drivers for 2026, will initially use Ferrari power units when they enter the sport, before running their own engines in the future.

Melinda Gates opens up about her split with Bill Gates

In a candid interview on Elizabeth Day’s “How to Fail” podcast, Melinda Gates shared the pivotal moment when she knew her marriage to Microsoft founder Bill Gates was beyond repair. Reflecting on her relationship, Melinda revealed that she initially ignored the warning signs, attributing them to external factors outside their marriage.

“I kept pushing it away,” Melinda admitted, recalling moments when doubts surfaced. Despite these feelings, she continued to believe in their shared work, particularly the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which they co-founded and which remains a cornerstone of their legacy.

However, as Bill’s infidelity became known, Melinda acknowledged that she could no longer ignore the reality of her situation. “At some point, I had to turn towards it, and I just knew it in my soul,” she confessed, marking the point when she realised their relationship had come to an end.

She emphasized the difficulty of leaving, as she takes marriage seriously, noting that it wasn’t just about the two of them but also their three children—Jennifer, 29, Rory, 26, and Phoebe, 22. “It’s two people who’ve come together, hopefully in love… so pulling it apart later is really hard,” Melinda said, reflecting on the emotional toll.

Melinda, 60, also encouraged others to trust their intuition, even when it means facing painful decisions. The couple married in 1994 but announced their separation in May 2021, finalising their divorce by August. The separation followed reports of Bill’s affair with a Microsoft employee.

Since the divorce, Melinda has found new love with tech entrepreneur Philip Vaughn, while Bill, 69, is dating Paula Hurd, widow of the late Oracle co-CEO Mark Hurd.

  • Hydrogen Europe

    Hydrogen Europe

    Brussels, 2 July 2025

CEOs from the world’s leading energy, automotive, and technology companies have come together to issue a strong and unified message to European policymakers: Hydrogen mobility is essential to Europe’s climate goals, industrial competitiveness, and strategic autonomy – and urgent action is needed on infrastructure buildout.

In a joint letter addressed to EU and Member State leaders, the CEOs urge policymakers to firmly position hydrogen mobility at the heart of Europe’s clean transport and industrial strategies. The letter has been signed by executives from more than 30 companies, from multinationals to smaller vendors that combined span the entire hydrogen mobility ecosystem. It calls for immediate and targeted policy support to unlock investment and scale deployment of hydrogen vehicles and infrastructure across the EU.

CEOs point to three critical issues:

Hydrogen mobility unlocks critical energy system synergies: Hydrogen enables demand aggregation, supports hard-to-abate sectors, and drastically reduces renewable energy waste.

Hydrogen mobility is a strategic imperative: Complementing battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen technologies are vital to ensuring a diversified, resilient, and cost-effective decarbonisation of road transport. A combined approach could save Europe between 300-500 billion euros in infrastructure costs by 2050. Two mobility infrastructures will be cheaper for Europe than relying on just electrification.

Hydrogen mobility is a vector for jobs and industrial growth: Europe’s existing industrial strengths in automotive and advanced manufacturing can be leveraged to lead in hydrogen technology, providing up to 500,000 jobs by 2030.

Despite progress, the CEOs warn that hydrogen mobility in Europe will stagnate unless a more coordinated and pragmatic policy framework is implemented to support the rollout of the necessary infrastructure and achieve the scale needed for the hydrogen mobility market to flourish. For this to happen, hydrogen mobility must form a central element of strategic initiatives such as the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan and Clean Industrial Deal, while the ongoing push to simplify EU regulations can help drive down the cost and complexity of building hydrogen mobility infrastructure.
