    Kirsten Dunst wants to be in ‘Minecraft’ sequel to make ‘pile of cash’

    Kirsten Dunst wants to make a movie — and make “a pile of cash.”

    In a recent interview with the magazine Town and Country, the “Bring It On” actor expressed her interest in appearing in the sequel to the Warner Bros. record-breaking film “A Minecraft Movie.”

    “Maybe I can make a movie where I don’t lose money?” she said.

    Dunst, who set the record straight on the pronunciation of her name on Wednesday (it’s Keer-sten), has been acting since the age of 3. She last appeared in Alex Garland’s dystopian war film “Civil War,” which earned roughly $127 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The film became the second-highest-grossing film for A24.

    In comparison, “A Minecraft Movie” made a “pile of cash” more than Dunst’s last three movies, combined — $955 million worldwide.

    In the interview, Dunst revealed she has a few projects lined up, including Ruben Östlund’s film “The Entertainment System Is Down,” Sofia Coppola’s next film and a mermaid story with Oscar-winner Mikey Madison.

    The “Interview With the Vampire” star‘s highest-grossing film is 2007’s “Spider-Man 3,” which earned $892 million worldwide. Dunst will appear next in Derek Cianfrance’s crime romp “Roofman,” alongside actor Channing Tatum.

    A sequel to “A Minecraft Movie,” Warner Bros.’ third-largest opening of all time, has not been confirmed, but director Jared Hess told Deadline that he is open to diving into the world of “Minecraft” again.

    NASA’s SpaceX 33rd Commercial Resupply Mission Overview

    NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than 2:45 a.m. EDT on Sunday, Aug. 24, for the next launch to deliver scientific investigations, supplies, and equipment to the International Space Station.

    Filled with more than 5,000 pounds of supplies, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket, will lift off from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Dragon will dock autonomously about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, to the forward port of the space station’s Harmony module.

    This launch is the 33rd SpaceX commercial resupply services mission to the orbital laboratory for the agency, and the 13th SpaceX launch under the Commercial Resupply Services-2 contract. The first 20 launches were under the original resupply services contract.

    NASA’s live launch coverage will begin at 2:25 a.m. on Aug 24. Dragon’s arrival coverage will begin at 6 a.m. on Aug. 25. For nearly 25 years, the International Space Station has provided research capabilities used by scientists from over 110 countries to conduct more than 4,000 groundbreaking experiments in microgravity. Research conducted aboard the space station advances Artemis missions to the Moon and human exploration of Mars, while providing multiple benefits to humanity.

    The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft will arrive at the space station and dock autonomously to the forward port of the station’s Harmony module at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25. NASA astronauts Mike Fincke and Jonny Kim will monitor the spacecraft’s arrival. It will stay docked to the orbiting laboratory for about four months before splashing down and returning critical science and hardware to teams on Earth.

    A study of bone-forming stem cells in microgravity could provide insight into the basic mechanisms of the bone loss astronauts experience during long-duration space flight ahead of future exploration of the Moon and Mars.

    Researchers identified a protein in the body called IL-6 that can send signals to stem cells to promote either bone formation or bone loss. This work evaluates whether blocking IL-6 signals could reduce bone loss during spaceflight. Results could improve our understanding of bone loss on Earth due to aging or disease and lead to new prevention and treatment strategies.

    Printing parts, tools in space

    As mission duration and distance from Earth increase, resupply becomes harder. Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, could be used to make parts and dedicated tools on demand, enhancing mission autonomy.

    Research aboard the space station has made strides in 3D printing with plastic, but it is not suitable for all uses. Investigations from ESA’s (European Space Agency) Metal 3D Printer builds on recent successful printing of the first metal parts in space.

    Researchers plan to bioprint liver tissue containing blood vessels on the ground and examine how the tissue develops in microgravity. Results could help support the eventual production of entire functional organs for transplantation on Earth.

    A previous mission tested whether this bioprinted liver tissue survived and functioned in space. This experimental round could show whether microgravity improves the development of the bioprinted tissue.

    Scientists are creating an implantable device in microgravity that could support nerve regrowth after injuries. The device is created through bioprinting, a type of 3D printing that uses living cells or proteins as raw materials.

    Traumatic injuries can create gaps between nerves, and existing treatments have a limited ability to restore nerve function and may result in impaired physical function. A bioprinted device to bridge nerve gaps could accelerate recovery and preserve function.

    • Reboost Kit – This kit will perform a reboost demonstration of the station to maintain its current altitude. The hardware, located in Dragon’s trunk, contains an independent propellant system, separate from the spacecraft’s main system, to fuel two Draco engines using existing hardware and propellant system design.
    • The boost kit will demonstrate the capability to maintain the orbiting lab’s altitude starting in September with a series of burns planned periodically throughout the fall of 2025. During NASA’s SpaceX 31st commercial resupply services mission, the Dragon spacecraft first demonstrated these capabilities on Nov. 8, 2024.
    • Poly Exercise Rope Kit – These exercise ropes distribute the desired exercise loads through a series of pulleys for the Advanced Restrictive Exercise Device. The ropes have a limited life cycle, and it will be necessary to replace them once they have reached their limit.
    • Brine Filter – These filters remove solid particles from liquid in urine during processing as a part of the station’s water recovery system.
    • Acoustic Monitor – A monitor that measures sound and records the data for download. This monitor will replace the sound level meter and the acoustic dosimeter currently aboard the orbiting laboratory.
    • Multi-filtration Bed – This space unit will support the Water Processor Assembly and continue the International Space Station Program’s effort to replace a fleet of degraded units aboard the station to improve water quality through a single bed.
    • Water Separator Orbital Unit – The unit draws air and condensate mixture from a condensing heat exchanger and separates the two components. The air is returned to the cabin air assembly outlet air-flow stream, and the water is delivered to the condensate bus. This unit launches to maintain in-orbit sparing while another is being returned for repair.
    • Anomaly Gas Analyzer Top Assembly – This battery-powered device detects and monitors gases aboard the station, including oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen cyanide. It also measures cabin pressure, humidity, and temperature. It replaces the Compound Specific Analyzer Combustion Products as the primary tool for detecting airborne chemicals and conditions.
    • Separator Pump (Water Recovery and Management) – This electrically-powered pump separates liquids and gases while rotating. It includes a scoop pump that moves the separated liquid into storage containers for use in other systems. The pump also contains sensor components and a filter to reduce electrical interference from the motor. Launching to maintain in-orbit sparing.
    • Reducer Cylinder Assembly & Emergency Portable Breathing Apparatus – Together, this hardware provides 15 minutes of oxygen to a crew member in case of an emergency (smoke, fire, alarm). Two are launching to maintain a minimum in-orbit spare requirement. 
    • Passive Separator Flight Experiment – This experiment will test a new method for separating urine and air using existing technology that combines a water-repellent urine hose with an airflow separator from the station’s existing Waste Hygiene Compartment.
    • Improved Resupply Water Tanks – Two tanks, each holding approximately 160 pounds of potable water, to supplement the Urine Processing Assembly.
    • NORS (Nitrogen/Oxygen Recharge System) Maintenance Tank/Recharge Tank Assembly, Nitrogen – The NORS maintenance kit comprises two assemblies: the NORS recharge tank assembly and the NORS vehicle interface assembly. The recharge tank assembly will be pressurized with nitrogen gas for launch. The vehicle interface assembly will protect the recharge tank assembly for launch and stowage aboard the space station. Launching to maintain reserve oxygen levels on station.
    • Swab Kits – These quick-disconnect cleaning kits are designed and created to replace in-orbit inventory.

    Return:

    • Oxygen Generation Assembly Pump The assembly pump converts potable water from the water recovery system into oxygen and hydrogen. The oxygen is sent to the crew cabin, and the hydrogen is either vented or used to produce more water. The International Space Station has been using this process to produce oxygen and hydrogen for 15 years, and this unit will be retired upon its return to Earth. The flight support equipment within will be refurbished and used in a new pump launched aboard a future flight.
    • Carbon Dioxide Monitoring Assembly A carbon dioxide monitor that measures the gas using the infrared absorption sensor. It expired in July 2025 and will return for refurbishment.
    • Meteoroid Debris Cover Center Section Assembly This external multilayer insulation provides thermal and micro-meteoroid orbital debris protection on the node port. After it is removed and replaced with a new assembly launching on NASA’s Northrop Grumman 23rd commercial resupply services mission, this unit will return for repair or used for spare parts.  
    • Multi-filtration Bed – This spare unit supports the Water Processor Assembly, which improves water quality aboard the International Space Station. Its return is part of an ongoing effort to replace a degraded fleet of in-orbit units. After its use, this multi-filtration bed will be refurbished for future re-flight.
    • Separator Pump – This electrically powered pump separates liquids and gases while rotating. It includes a scoop pump that moves the separated liquid into storage containers for use in other systems. The pump also contains sensor components and a filter to reduce electrical interference from the motor. This unit is designed to run to failure, and after investigation and testing, it will be returned for repair and future flight.
    • Rate Gyro Enclosure Assembly – The Rate Gyro Assembly determines the space station’s rate of angular motion. It is returning for repair and refurbishment and will be used as a spare.
    • NORS (Nitrogen/Oxygen Recharge System) Maintenance Kit (Oxygen) – The NORS Maintenance Kit comprises two assemblies: the NORS Recharge Tank Assembly and the NORS Vehicle Interface Assembly. The recharge tank assembly will be pressurized with Nitrogen gas for launch. The vehicle interface assembly will protect the recharge tank assembly for launch and stowage aboard the space station. They are routinely returned for reuse and re-flight. The kit also includes a VIA bag (vehicle interface assembly) with foam, which is used as a cargo transfer bag for launch and return to protect the tank.

    CHICAGO (Reuters) -In a head-to-head contest in a small corner of agricultural futures markets, a legacy spring wheat contract that has traded for more than 140 years is fending off a challenge from a competing contract launched this spring by CME Group, the world’s largest futures exchange.

    Spring wheat, grown in the northern Plains of the U.S. and Canada, is favored for bagels and frozen dough. The contract was introduced in 1883 on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange and has long set the price for premium-quality wheat used by North American millers and exported around the world.

    Compared to other commodities, trade in spring wheat contracts is relatively modest. But it is among the only major agricultural commodity derivatives not dominated by CME Group, which in recent decades has expanded from its 19th-century origins as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange into a $99 billion behemoth with acquisitions including the Chicago Board of Trade and Kansas City Board of Trade. Now, nearly 2 million contracts are traded daily for corn, soybeans, winter wheat and livestock.

    But CME’s much smaller rival, Miami International Holdings, or MIAX, which bought the independent Minneapolis exchange in 2020 and moved it off of CME’s electronic trading platform this summer, is winning the battle in spring wheat.

    “It’s David versus Goliath,” said Joe Nussmeier, a broker with Frontier Futures.

    Earlier this summer, CME’s spring wheat futures, saw hefty daily trading volumes of tens of thousands of contracts. Those volumes have faded to a few dozen a day, according to CME data. It also shows that open interest, which reflects the number of active contracts held by traders, has plummeted from a peak of nearly 2,100 contracts to around 600.

    Large grain handlers and millers including CHS, Archer-Daniels-Midland and Cargill’s joint venture Ardent Mills, who represent the bulk of commercial trade in spring wheat, are sticking with MIAX.

    Traders said that most of the CME’s early volume bump came from “market makers,” or traders given an incentive by CME to trade the contract to boost market liquidity and facilitate trading for others. But those traders do not often take longer-term positions like commercial traders such as grain millers and elevators who use futures to hedge against the risk of owning large inventories of grain.

    “It does not feel like there’s any commercial participation, and what the product needs to thrive is a commercially backed hedger, whether it be an end user or a grain elevator,” said Nussmeier.

    Karachi [Pakistan], August 22 (ANI): At least two people were killed and 33 others sustained injuries after an explosion took place in a warehouse located in a densely populated area near Karachi’s Taj Medical Complex on Thursday, Dawn reported, citing officials.

    Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed told Dawn that 20 injured persons were admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, including two with critical injuries, while 14 others were brought to Civil Hospital Karachi’s trauma centre. Later in the day, she confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was found dead at the warehouse site, while another critically wounded patient succumbed to injuries.

    According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan, the explosion occurred in the basement of a three-storey building where families lived on the upper floors. “Raw material used in firecracker preparation was stored in the facility. Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit sparked a fire, leading to a massive explosion due to highly inflammable material,” he told Dawn.

    The blast caused significant structural damage, bringing down concrete blocks on parked vehicles and shattering windows of nearby buildings. Firefighting teams from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Rescue 1122 deployed 12 fire tenders to contain the blaze, which reignited several times due to the presence of combustible material. Dense smoke further complicated operations, Haseeb Khan said.

    However, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) senior official Raja Umer Khattab contradicted initial claims, saying the facility contained explosive material rather than mere firecracker components.

    “CTD had seized two tons of explosive material in this area in the recent past,” he said, noting that the raw material in fireworks could also be used in bombs.

    “As per the relevant laws, up to 50 kilogrammes of firecracker material may be stored in a shop with certain conditions and SOPs (standard operating procedures) in place,” Khattab said.

    He noted that while firecracker production and import are regulated in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through licenses, there was no legal industry for such manufacturing in Sindh. The official stressed that the godown was illegally operating in the residential locality.

    Meanwhile, Karachi Traffic Police said MA Jinnah Road was closed for traffic due to the fire, with diversions arranged towards Society Signal and Ali Raza Imambargah. Citizens were advised to call helpline 1915 for alternative routes.

    Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed officials to ensure immediate medical care for the injured and submit a detailed report after the fire is brought under control. “There is no permission to produce materials near populated areas, which can cause damage,” he said in a statement.

    The incident comes weeks after a major blaze at Karachi Export Processing Zone in Landhi injured eight and damaged multiple factories. (ANI)

    Telomere Length a Promising Avenue in ILD Research

    Mounting evidence suggests telomere shortening is an important research focus in interstitial lung disease (ILD) that may soon lead to novel therapeutic options.1 A recent article published in The Clinical Respiratory Journal reviewed the latest research about telomere shortening in ILD.

    The authors began by reviewing the challenges associated with ILD diagnosis. One of the major challenges, they said, is the similar clinical presentations in patients with different types of ILD. However, they noted that telomere shortening occurs in all patients with ILD, but telomere length and telomere shortening cells vary between the different types of ILD.2 Thus, they said, measuring telomere length may be a useful tool in diagnosing and differentiating ILD.

    In the case of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), previous research has shown that the disease’s development is linked with telomere shortening in peripheral blood leukocytes.3 Conversely, telomere shortening did not play a role in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). That research, the authors said, is part of a growing body of evidence that telomere shortening is a “clear risk factor” and valuable diagnostic tool in IPF.

    The cause of telomere shortening in IPF has been linked with the presence of telomerase gene mutations, the authors said. A 2007 study looked at the genetic mutations behind IPF and found that mutations in the TERC and TERT genes of telomerase led to telomere shortening, which in turn could make a person much more likely to develop adult-onset IPF.4

    Yet, there are other possible causes of telomere shortening. For exmaple, one theory is that abnormal epithelial damage-repair causes the telomere shortening.

    “Different studies have confirmed that transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) inhibits telomerase gene activity via mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3 (Smad3) in tumor cells and cultured mouse fibroblasts,” they noted.

    Smad3 can interfere with the telomerase gene promoter’s transcription and translation, and knocking down the TGF-β receptor in mouse lung epithelial cells has been shown to reduce lung fibrosis in mice.5

    Turning their attention to the therapeutic implications, the authors noted that current treatments can only delay—and not reverse—ILD. The targeting of telomerase and telomere function “has broad therapeutic promise” for patients with telomere abnormality-related pulmonary fibrosis, according to the authors. They said both molecular and gene therapies have been investigated for this purpose.

    For instance, they noted the TERT gene promoter has estrogen receptors. Previous research has shown that estrogen can upregulate TERT expression and therefore increase telomerase activity.6

    The novel telomerase activator GRN510 has also been used to successfully increase telomerase activity in a mouse model of TERT gene-mutant pulmonary fibrosis.7 

    Another option is inhibition of PAP-associated domain-containing protein 5 (PAPD5). The protein opposes the PARN gene, and the PARN gene regulates the function of TERC and thereby helps maintain telomere length.1 The theory—backed up by early research—is that inhibiting PAPD5 can ultimately result in enhanced telomerase activity.

    Aside from the therapeutic implications of telomere length in ILD, the investigators said telomere length also appears to be a predictor of survival in patients with IPF, though not for patients with non-IPF ILDs.

    Moving forward, the authors said more investigation is warranted to better understand the relationships between telomeres, telomere-related gene mutations, and ILD. Such investigation, they said, could help predict—and ideally, change—the trajectory of the disease.

    Elevated High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol May Reduce Risk of Stress Urinary Incontinence

    Investigators have published new data in the International Journal of Medical Sciences demonstrating a causal link between elevated high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and a reduced risk of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), with heightened protection observed in patients with overweight and/or obesity. The data highlights the unique role of HDL-C levels in preventing SUI, especially in individuals with a high body mass index (BMI).1

    Association Between SUI and HDL-C Warrants Further Research

    SUI, a condition that particularly impacts women, involves the involuntary leakage of urine during physical acts. Examples include laughing, coughing, or sneezing. With up to 10% to 40% of women globally affected by SUI—and prevalence increasing with age and obesity—there is a critical need for research on prevention strategies and risk factor amelioration. Factors such as pelvic floor dysfunction and childbirth are established risks for SUI, but more recent evidence points to metabolic health as a potential new avenue for SUI prevention.1-3

    HDL-C is known as an indicator of cardiovascular protection in contrast to low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). More recent analyses have begun to uncover the involvement of HDL-C in non-cardiovascular settings, including infections, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, offering potential for HDL-C to serve as a predictive measure of SUI development. Unfortunately, available evidence on the relationship between HDL-C and SUI is conflicting, with numerous investigative groups coming to varying conclusions.1,4

    A dual-evidence study, integrating cross-sectional analyses from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and a 2-sample Mendelian randomization, was imitated by the current authors to evaluate the association between HDL-C levels and SUI prevalence, with particular focus on patients with overweight or obesity. Furthermore, the authors sought to explore whether BMI levels can modify the protective effect of HDL-C. In total, 18,415 women from the NHANES survey were included in the analysis, of which 7658 (41.59%) reported SUI.1

    Higher HDL-C Levels Reduced Risk of SUI

    Firstly, HDL-C and SUI associations were examined. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis demonstrated a nonlinear association between HDL-C and SUI in a crude model (P for overall < .001; P for nonlinear < .001). There was a steep risk decrease observed at lower HDL-C levels, with a plateau in risk reduction at higher HDL-C. A stepwise weighted multivariate logistic regression indicated that, for each 1 mg/dL increase in HDL-C, SUI risk decreased by 0.8% (95% CI, 0.989—0.994; P < .001), which remained significant in the partially adjusted and fully adjusted models.1

    Regarding specific HDL-C thresholds, individuals with HDL-C of 67 mg/dL or more had a 17.3% (95% CI, 0.747—0.917) reduced risk of SUI. The authors also conducted a stepwise analysis investigating the risk of SUI with increasing HDL-C levels, with Q4 indicating the highest LDL-C level and Q1 indicating the lowest. Observations from a fully adjusted model indicate that the risk of SUI in the highest LDL-C level was 25.1% (95% CI, 0.652—0.859) lower compared with the lowest level, while the second level indicated no meaningful protective effect (odds ratio [OR] = 0.950 [95% CI, 0.847—1.066]; P = .380).1

    A subgroup analysis was conducted across demographic and clinical data, which revealed that the protective effect of HDL-C was especially strong in individuals with overweight or obesity (BMI of 25 kg/m2 or more: OR = 0.992, P = .006; BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more: OR = 0.991, P = .001). Notably, younger women—aged 60 or less—demonstrated a heightened risk reduction of SUI. The authors also determined that, when SUI was stratified by varying leakage frequencies, HDL-C levels were inversely related with all frequency levels of SUI, with increasing HDL-C levels inducing a parallel decrease in the frequency of SUI.1

    A causal relationship between HDL-C and SUI was indeed observed by the study authors, suggesting a protective effect with HDL-C against SUI. The investigators caution, however, that these protective effects are not linear across the board; they noted an “HDL-C” paradox observed in their unadjusted RCS analysis, which underscores the need for precision and thorough further investigation. Despite this limitation, the use of a large, nationally representative sample from a large-scale analysis allows for these observations to be deemed reliable and a solid base for future research.1

    “These robust findings suggest that maintaining optimal HDL-C levels may serve as an effective preventive strategy against SUI, especially in high-BMI populations,” the study authors concluded. “While our results highlight the therapeutic potential of HDL-C, future studies should further elucidate the underlying mechanisms and validate these associations across diverse demographic groups.”1

    Google has officially revealed its latest smartphone series, the Pixel 10, and to coincide with the upcoming releases, AT&T is rolling out three new deals.

    First, you can get either the Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL completely for free with an eligible trade-in. According to AT&T, this offer is only valid with “eligible [smartphones] that [have] a minimum trade-in value of $35.” Additionally, “Pixel smartphones from any year will be accepted in any condition.”

    Second, if you do take either the Pixel 10 Pro or 10 Pro XL offer, you’ll also have the opportunity to buy a 128GB Pixel 10 for just $7.99 a month, with no trade-in required. That $8 monthly plan will run for the next 36 months.

    Finally, if you buy a Pixel 10 series smartphone, you’ll receive a free Pixel Watch 3 and 50% off select Google Pixel accessories, which include Pixel buds, screen protectors, phone cases, a power charger, and a wireless charging stand. An AT&T representative told me that the cases, charger, and charging stand all support the new PixelSnap feature.

    PixelSnap is essentially MagSafe charging for Android. It provides fast, Qi2-compatible wireless charging via a magnetic charger that goes on the back of the phone. The accessory offer does have a few restrictions. For example, you can only get one accessory per eligible device purchase, with a limit of four.

    Google’s Pixel 10 series incrementally upgrades the previous generation, improving the smartphone in key areas. The base Pixel 10 model gets a triple camera system, with a 5x telephoto lens as the new third option. Every device houses new AI features, like Camera Coach, which provides photography tips in real time. There’s also Magic Cure, a more proactive digital assistant that surfaces information and files before you begin searching, be it flight details or pictures of your dog.

    The Pixel 10 line shares various similarities with the Pixel 9 — mostly its durable form factor. They sport the same Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen to protect the display against damage and boast an IP68 resistance rating. This means the phones are totally protected against dust and can survive submersion underwater.

    On the software side, Google’s Pixel 10 phones will receive seven years of Pixel Drops, OS, and security updates, ensuring the device stays secure against malware.
