    Lil Nas X has been arrested after an altercation with police, according to reports.

    Officials confirmed to NBC that the 26-year-old rapper and singer was booked on suspicion of misdemeanour battery after he was confronted while walking down the street in his underwear.

    The two-time Grammy winner, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, had been seen on Ventura Boulevard in the early hours of Thursday morning. TMZ has video footage where he claims he is going to a party.

    After officers arrived, he allegedly threw punches toward the officers and, according to an LAPD statement provided without naming him, the suspect was then “taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for a ‘possible overdose’”. Once he is released he will be charged. No officers were injured.

    Lil Nas X gained fame after his track Old Town Road became a record-breaking No 1 hit, staying there for 19 weeks. He also had success with songs including Industry Baby and Montero (Call Me by Your Name).

    He is set to release his album Dreamboy later this year after releasing a number of singles this spring, and in the last week, returned to social media with a series of posts featuring snippets of new music. He also changed his Instagram name to Queen Madeleine and shared images of himself in a variety of costumes with the furniture in his apartment being rearranged.

    In April, he was hospitalised after experiencing sudden facial paralysis. In a video shared to Instagram, he said he “lost control” of half his face.

    The Guardian has reached out to his representatives for comment.

    Cox pushed on, reaching his own half-century from 30 deliveries, guiding his side home alongside Donovan Ferreira and Sam Billings.

    The win near guarantees Invincibles a play-off spot and offers further evidence as to why the two-time defending champions remain the team to beat in the men’s competition.

    LAAM has collaborated with Neem to introduce a new system of payments and a wallet for an organization to its marketplace. The collaboration gives sellers instant access to their earnings through LAAM-branded wallets powered by the Neem wallet system. The integration streamlines payouts, collections, refunds, and reconciliations across LAAM operations.

    LAAM will credit seller balances directly into LAAM-branded wallets. Sellers will access funds immediately and will be able to withdraw to any bank account. Instant access removes cash flow friction for small designers and growing brands. The arrangement makes payouts predictable and fast. LAAM will also issue instant refunds to buyers into the same branded wallets. This change strengthens post-purchase service and supports customer retention.

    Buyer payments will flow through Neem Payment Button. The Payment Button accepts cards, bank transfers, mobile wallets, and Raast. Payments will reconcile in real time in the Neem business dashboard. Real-time reconciliation will reduce errors and trapped liquidity for LAAM. The system will give LAAM clear visibility of collections and settlements.

    Neem will provide a full-stack solution that includes wallet ledger reconciliation and a business portal. The solution will let LAAM manage vendor payments, payroll disbursements, and seller settlements on one platform.     DAPT De-escalation Success Varies by Sex: Meta-analysis

    Male and female patients had different outcomes, but before recommendations can be made, trials only in women are needed.

    The safety and efficacy of strategies for dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) de-escalation following PCI may vary depending on patient sex, especially when switching to a single antiplatelet agent, according to a new network meta-analysis.

    Several trials have now shown most patients benefit from a short course of DAPT, thanks to bleeding advantages without a sacrifice in ischemic risk, although few have stratified patients by sex.

    The meta-analysis, published online recently in the European Heart Journal, with first author Giovanni Occhipinti, MD (University of Barcelona, Spain), comprised more than 71,000 patients from 20 trials, of whom almost one-quarter were female. DAPT discontinuation—followed by either aspirin or P2Y12 monotherapy—lowered MACE in female but not male patients, and it reduced major bleeding in male but not female patients compared with standard DAPT.

    “In the field of precision medicine, we now know that there are several factors that affect the response to antiplatelet therapy, but sex was not very well established among them,” study co-author Mattia Galli, MD (Sapienza University of Rome, Latina, Italy), told TCTMD.

    When trying to individualize antiplatelet therapy, sex should be taken into account, he said. Clinical presentation as well as ethnicity also play important roles, but patient sex is potentially something that some physicians might not have taken into account before, said Galli.

    In an accompanying editorial, Dirk Sibbing, MD (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany), agrees.

    “The situation for the treating physician has become much more complex, given the increasing number of recommendations and DAPT modulation strategies,” he writes. “Despite all of these improvements, a significant residual risk for adverse events post-PCI still remains for our patients. To a significant extent, this remaining risk could be related to not adjusting for individual characteristics of our patients, including sex, age, BMI, cardiovascular risk factors, and co-medication. Also, genetic profiling to improve outcomes for cardiovascular drug treatment is still in the early stages of investigation.”

    The “next stop” on continuing to improve individualized antiplatelet therapy regimens, Sibbing adds, will require “a better understanding and implementation of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that impact” drug efficacy and safety.

    More Than 70,000 Patients

    For the network meta-analysis, Occhipinti and colleagues included 71,272 patients (mean age 64.7 years; 23.3% female; 62.2% presenting with ACS) from 20 trials looking at different DAPT de-escalation strategies after PCI. Fifteen were studies of DAPT discontinuation (either aspirin or P2Y12 inhibitor) and five evaluated switching the P2Y12 inhibitor or reducing drug doses. Female participants, as compared to male, were older and reported more hypertension and diabetes.

    Compared with standard DAPT, DAPT discontinuation had a different treatment effect depending on patient sex in regard to both MACE (P = 0.028 for interaction) and major bleeding (P = 0.015 for interaction). The risk of MACE was lower with DAPT discontinuation in females (HR 0.86; 95% CI 0.75-0.98) but not in males (HR 1.04; 95% CI 0.93-1.16). However, the risk of major bleeding was lower in men (HR 0.60; 95% CI 0.44-0.82) but not women (HR 1.04; 95% CI 0.76-1.43).

    The researchers found no similar interactions by sex with a P2Y12 inhibitor switch or dose reduction strategy compared with standard DAPT.

    In a treatment ranking analysis, females had the best outcomes with aspirin discontinuation and males fared best when their P2Y12 inhibitor was switched to clopidogrel.

    In another recent paper cited by Galli, one that took a closer look at the pharmacodynamics behind sex-based responses to antiplatelet therapy, it seems that “females have different pathways through which platelets activate,” he said. “This may explain the fact that if you use a P2Y12 inhibitor, that could be more effective in females because we have found that the females have an increased platelet relativity mediated by that pathway.”

    This also could explain why female patients might have had a reduced response to aspirin in the current analysis, Galli added.

    Their meta-analysis points to the need for a study of DAPT de-escalation strategies done exclusively in women, he said. “That is very, very important because you need a very solid evidence [base] in females to be 100% sure that your findings and your clinical practice can change.”

    Superbugs in hospitals: Misuse of antibiotics breeding resistance

    INDIA’s hospitals are facing a silent but deadly enemy — superbugs. A new study by the PGIMER, Chandigarh, has found that nearly six out of 10 patients admitted to large hospitals were on antibiotics. Many of these medicines were from the “last-resort” category, meant to be used only when nothing else works. Worse, in many cases, they were prescribed without proper lab tests. This is problematic as overuse and misuse of antibiotics make bacteria stronger and harder to kill. Once they become resistant, common infections turn into life-threatening ones. The PGI study shows that hospitals themselves are becoming breeding grounds for such drug-resistant bacteria.

    Scientists have been warning for years that India is becoming a hub of antibiotic resistance. The PGI study only confirms what smaller studies and patient experiences have long shown — that germs in our hospitals are turning harder to treat. Sadly, governments have either failed to act firmly against another big culprit: the vast market of fake and substandard medicines, which are freely available.

    Infections caused by certain resistant bacteria are now common in the ICUs of our hospitals. Some show resistance to more than 70 per cent of the strongest antibiotics. When these superbugs strike, patients need longer treatment, costlier drugs and often face higher chances of death. Families are pushed into debt and hospitals are stretched to the limit. The crisis is not confined to wards. Poorly treated waste from drug factories and hospitals adds resistant bacteria to our water and soil. These germs find their way back into our food and environment, creating a vicious cycle. The solutions are weakly enforced. Doctors must avoid unnecessary prescriptions and follow strict antibiotic rules. The National Action Plan on antimicrobial resistance exists, but it needs funds, monitoring and teeth.

    How Higher Ed Must Adapt

    When 92% of university students report using AI tools but only 36% receive any formal institutional training, we’re witnessing a disconnect that could define the next generation of work. Students are experimenting with generative AI at unprecedented rates, but often without the frameworks, feedback, or professional application they’ll need in their careers.

    This creates what an AI preparedness paradox. Students are learning to use tools like ChatGPT for quick answers but not necessarily to evaluate sources, check outputs, or apply AI responsibly in professional settings. According to a survey from the Digital Education Council, 58% of students reported they do not feel they have sufficient AI knowledge and skills, and 48% said they do not feel adequately prepared for an AI‑enabled workplace.

    The cost of this gap is already measurable. According to PwC, 40% of the workforce will require reskilling within three years. Workers with AI skills now earn up to 56% more than their peers. This same report shows that job postings on LinkedIn requiring AI skills have increased by 7.5% year-over-year, even as total job postings decline by double digits.

    Given the introduction of agents in the workforce, AI is no longer just a tool waiting for prompts; it is evolving into a complex series of specialized workflows. This shift is already visible in industry, where companies are embedding role-based AI systems into everyday workflows. The risk is that students who only learn AI as a shortcut, rather than as a collaborative partner, will graduate unprepared for workplaces where agentic systems are the norm.

    Two announcements this month, however, suggest potential solutions that may close this gap. The first announcement was Grammarly’s launch of nine student-focused AI agents. The second is the University of Hawaii’s partnership with Google Cloud to build an AI-powered career pathways platform. These initiatives show how education and technology companies can collaborate to build AI literacy while strengthening workforce pipelines.

    Grammarly’s Agents: Teaching Skills Employers Value

    Grammarly’s student-specific AI agents, which debuted August 18, introduces context-aware partners that reinforce both academic integrity and professional readiness in educational settings. “We believe students deserve AI tools that meet them where they are academically while preparing them for where they need to go professionally,” according to Jenny Maxwell, Head of Education at Grammarly. Here are the agents that the company has introduced:

    • Critical Thinking: The Citation Finder and Expert Review agents teach students to evaluate evidence and seek subject-matter expertise. Through this agent, students learn to identify gaps and strengthen arguments; skills central to professions from consulting to law.
    • Communication: The Reader Reactions and Proofreader agents emphasize clarity and audience awareness. A marketing student, for instance, can test whether a case analysis reads differently to a professor versus a peer group. This mirrors the type of data analysis that real-world marketers are required to do.
    • Ethics: The AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker reinforce originality and responsible use. Rather than blocking AI outright, these tools teach students to integrate it transparently and appropriately, an increasingly vital competency as employers wrestle with the ethics of AI adoption.

    Where early AI tools functioned as passive assistants—waiting for users to craft the right prompts—agentic systems like these are now taking on defined roles. In education, this means AI is no longer just correcting grammar or crunching data; it is stepping into structured, domain-specific functions that mirror the professional tasks students will encounter in the workplace.

    For institutions, this is both an opportunity and a warning. The same shift is unfolding in industry, where companies are deploying specialized agents for HR screening, compliance, marketing analysis, and customer engagement. Students who learn to collaborate with these agents in school will be far better prepared to thrive in workplaces where agentification is fast becoming the norm.

    Hawaii’s Brain Drain Meets An AI-Powered Solution

    If Grammarly addresses the micro-level of student skill-building, the University of Hawaii System is working at the macro level to retain talent in a state that has long struggled with “brain drain.”

    More than half of Hawaii’s bachelor’s degree holders leave the state for mainland opportunities, according to UH data, with the number climbing to nearly two-thirds among graduate degree holders. The causes are complex, but a lack of accessible career pathways is a major driver.

    The new Hawaii Career Pathways platform, developed with Google Cloud, uses Vertex AI and BigQuery to analyze student skills, prior coursework, and career interests. The system then matches students with local job opportunities and provides personalized guidance through Gemini AI.

    “Universities have a crucial opportunity to lead in both the adoption of AI and ensuring our students are prepared to join the workforce of the future, today,” according to Garret T. Yoshimi, VPIT & CIO, University of Hawaii.

    This approach serves multiple goals simultaneously. The platform demonstrates how students can apply their academic learning connects directly to real opportunities in Hawaii. In addition, employers gain visibility into emerging talent pools. Finally, the state gains a tool to strengthen its workforce pipeline, reduce outmigration, and preserve cultural and economic vitality.

    The initiative also prioritizes inclusion. By using Google Translate, the platform supports Pacific Islander students in their native languages—a recognition that equity in AI readiness is critical for regions with diverse demographics.

    Hawaii’s initiative is part of a growing recognition that talent retention is a competitive asset in the AI economy. States like Michigan and Colorado are already investing in retention bonuses and career alignment programs. UH’s use of AI to directly link students to employers could provide a model for other regions facing similar outmigration challenges.

    A Blueprint For Workforce-Ready Education

    What unites Grammarly’s and UH’s initiatives is a response to a deeper shift: the agentification of work. Across industries, AI is taking on defined roles, from “grader” to “career counselor” to “market analyst.” The real challenge for higher education is ensuring that students learn to collaborate with these systems rather than graduate unprepared into workplaces already transformed by them.

    At the individual level, Grammarly’s agents demonstrate how role-based AI can become a learning partner, teaching critical thinking, communication, and ethical reasoning—the same competencies employers now expect students to apply in professional contexts.

    At the institutional level, the University of Hawaii’s pathways platform shows how agentic systems can close the last mile between academic achievement and workforce demand, continuously matching skills with opportunities and reducing talent flight.

    At the system level, the blueprint extends even further. Institutions need to build their own agentic capabilities—AI systems that track labor market trends, monitor graduate outcomes, and adjust curricula in real time. Rather than reacting to disruption, universities can become proactive engines of workforce readiness.

    To thrive in an agentified economy, institutions must embed role-based AI into the student experience and build institutional agents that align education with evolving market realities. Those who move first will not only graduate AI-fluent students but also strengthen their regions with talent that is resilient, adaptable, and prepared for a future of continuous change.

    In other words, the next frontier isn’t only teaching students to use agents; it’s empowering institutions themselves to act agentically—deploying AI systems that integrate workforce analytics, curriculum design, and career services into a living feedback loop. Institutions that take this step will be able to move from reactive to proactive, ensuring their graduates stay employable at the point of graduation and that institutions stay resilient as the future of work evolves.

    Brent Hinds death: Former Mastodon guitarist was 51

    Brent Hinds, who sang and played guitar in the Grammy-winning metal band Mastodon until he left the group this year, died Wednesday night in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta. He was 51.

    His death was reported by Atlanta’s WANF, which cited a police report that said Hinds was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he was struck by an SUV whose driver had failed to yield while making a turn. Hinds was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

    In an Instagram post, Hinds’ former bandmates said they were “in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief” and that they were “still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many.”

    Known for its complicated riffs and its high-concept storytelling, Mastodon built a large and devoted audience with intricately plotted albums about illness, suicide and “Moby-Dick.” The band’s music drew clear inspiration from Black Sabbath and Slayer and influenced subsequent metal acts like Baroness and Pallbearer.

    Yet Bill Kelliher, Mastodon’s other guitarist, said, “We’re not really a metal band,” during an interview with The Times in 2017. “I feel we’re more like a really heavy, groovy rock band with some prog elements and some pretty deep emotional lyrics. They’re loosely based on tragedy and things that really shake up human beings in real life.”

    Mastodon formed in 2000 and made two albums for the respected indie label Relapse Records — including 2004’s “Moby-Dick”-steeped “Leviathan,” which Hinds told the New York Times allegorized “the struggle between man and music” — before signing to the Warner Music imprint Reprise for 2006’s “Blood Mountain,” which earned a Grammy nomination for best metal performance.

    The band — in which Hinds, bassist Troy Sanders and drummer Brann Dailor took turns as lead singer — made five more LPs for Reprise; “Sultan’s Curse,” from 2017’s “Emperor of Sand,” won a Grammy for best metal performance. Mastodon’s most recent album, “Hushed and Grim,” came out in 2021.

    Hinds grew up in Birmingham, Ala., where he learned to play the banjo before turning to guitar. In a 2009 interview with the Guardian, he described his younger self as “a total hellion” and said he was “very dysfunctional at school.” He added that he would “take LSD and come to class still tripping. I was too creative, never doing my homework, just filling my notepad up with drawings of skulls.”

    He met Sanders when the latter came to Birmingham to play with an earlier band; Hinds soon moved to Atlanta to make music with Sanders, then the two formed Mastodon with Kelliher and Dailor. In 2009, Mastodon played the Coachella festival and toured with Metallica; six years later, Hinds appeared as an extra in an episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

    In March, Mastodon announced that Hinds had left the band in a statement that said they’d “mutually decided to part ways.” Yet Hinds later wrote on Instagram that his former bandmates, whom he called “horrible humans,” had fired him “for embarrassing them for being who I am.” He went on to accuse them of using Auto-Tune in the studio and said he had “never met three people that were so full of themselves.”

    Information on Hinds’ survivors wasn’t immediately available.
