Vincent Kompany has had far from an entirely fit squad for Bayern Munich at the FIFA Club World Cup due to the amount of injuries there currently are. In the defensive area of the pitch in particular, depth is rather thin as far as senior players are concerned. Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, and Kim Min-jae are all currently out injured for the German Rekordmeister and Dayot Upamecano only just returned from a relatively lengthy injury layover that saw him miss a handful of matches toward the end of last season.
Going into the FIFA Club World Cup, before it was understood that Upamecano would be available on the bench against Auckland City and then likely start against Boca Juniors, there was the idea that Kompany would start with Leon Goretzka and Josip Stanišić at center back. However, that was also before Max Eberl agreed on a fee with Bayer Leverkusen to have new signing Jonathan Tah from the start of the tournament as opposed to from July 1st onward.
As a result and out of necessity, Stanišić has been deputized out of his natural position at left-back for most of the tournament; a task with which he has done quite well on the way to helping Bayern advance to the quarterfinals at the very least. Much like playing at right-back, the Croatian international recently explained that he actually does prefer left-back to center back in a way due to the more attacking freedom that he has there.
“When it comes to crossing, it’s easier with the right foot than with the left, but otherwise it’s not a big change. I also like playing left-back because I can be a bit more active there because as a center-back, you have more responsibility defensively and not as much to do going forward,” Stanišić told kicker ahead of the quarter final clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta, Georgia (via @iMiaSanMia).

As far as the upcoming season is concerned, Kompany might need to continue playing Stanišić at left-back with both Davies and Ito still out injured. It remains to be seen what more business could be done in the summer transfer window, though, but Bayern’s main focus remains on securing a deal for VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade and getting a winger to make up for not being able to get Florian Wirtz. They could still, however, do business in the defensive area of the pitch.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj claimed six wickets on Day 3 of the second Test match against England, including his fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket, after England’s Harry Brook and Jamie Smith put up a 300-run partnership. During Siraj’s post-match interview with BCCI, fellow squad member Arshdeep Singh interjected with a playful comment about Siraj’s famous dialogue needing an update. Arshdeep Singh interrupted the interview with a lighthearted remark, suggesting a modification to Siraj’s well-known statement. “Brother, there is a dialogue change. I only believe in myself and Jassi bhai,” Arshdeep Singh said at the beginning of the interview. The Indian bowling attack saw the emergence of Akash Deep, who supported Siraj effectively in India’s first bowling innings. Akash Deep secured four wickets but fell short of achieving his maiden five-wicket haul by one wicket. Siraj revealed his willingness to help his bowling partner achieve the milestone. “Akash Deep was waiting for his opportunity, and he showed his hunger today. I really enjoyed bowling with him. I enjoy responsibility and it is good that I did well today,” Siraj said. In a display of camaraderie, Siraj disclosed his attempt to assist Akash Deep in reaching the five-wicket milestone. “I would have loved if Akash Deep would have taken a five-wicket haul today. Your first 5-wicket haul is special. I told him that I would bowl 4 balls away from the stump to give him the best chance at taking 5, but he said no,” Siraj explained.
Akash Deep press conference: On replacing Jasprit Bumrah, message from Gautam Gambhir and more
The match situation at the end of Day 3 saw India in a commanding position with a lead of 244 runs. KL Rahul and Karun Nair remained at the crease, looking to navigate through the morning session without losing wickets.
Poll
Will Akash Deep achieve his maiden five-wicket haul in the next Test?
England’s approach to the final innings has been made clear, as they intend to pursue any target set by India. The Indian team aims to establish a competitive score that would keep England engaged in the chase during the final phase of play. The partnership between Brook and Smith proved significant for England, as they accumulated 300 runs together before Siraj’s intervention brought India back into the contest. Siraj’s six-wicket haul demonstrated his crucial role in India’s bowling attack.Quiz: Who’s that IPL player? Akash Deep’s performance in his bowling spell showcased his potential and readiness to contribute at the Test level. His four-wicket haul, though falling short of the five-wicket mark, indicated his capabilities in the longest format of the game. The day’s play highlighted the competitive nature of the Test match, with both teams showing determination. India’s position at the end of Day 3, with a substantial lead and wickets in hand, sets up an intriguing conclusion to the match. The interaction between Siraj and Arshdeep Singh during the interview reflected the positive atmosphere within the Indian team. Their exchange, coupled with Siraj’s willingness to help Akash Deep achieve a milestone, demonstrated the team’s supportive environment.

The Michelin-equipped ERC points leader took 20min 54.8sec to complete the 34.57-kilometre Torre di Cicerone test with a 2.3sec margin over Pirelli-shod Andrea Crugnola, who is chasing his third consecutive victory on the all-asphalt event.
But it could have been a different story had the Pole failed save a moment when he went wide on a right-hander and briefly went off the road.
Marczyk had earlier set the joint fastest time with Giandomenico Basso through SS2, Collepardo Pozzo d’Antullo to move ahead of overnight leader Boštjan Avbelj, who was quickest on the Rome super special stage on Friday evening.
Behind second-placed Crugnola, double ERC champion Giandomenico Basso is third, 3.7sec adrift of Marczyk, with Andrea Mabellini slipping to fourth, 4.3sec off the lead.
Mads Østberg is fifth followed by Simone Campedelli and 2022 European chakmpion Efrén Llarena, who is back on ERC duty after missing the three gravel rounds.
Colosseum super special stage winner Boštjan Avbelj, Fabio Andolfi and Roberto Daprà complete the current top 10 ahead of the 13.05-kilometre Santopadre stage, SS4, from 11:10 local time.
The pay-TV bundle is dying a long, slow death, and streaming is the prime suspect.
Media analysts sometimes blame content providers for cannibalizing the cable bundle and accelerating its collapse by building streaming services that give consumers direct access to once-exclusive content.
But for All Elite Wrestling, this hasn’t been the case.
AEW started simulcasting on HBO Max in January, just as rival WWE’s “Raw” event on Monday nights moved exclusively to Netflix.
The move has corresponded with a rebound in AEW’s cable ratings in that span from their lows late last year.
Through the second quarter, AEW’s audience on traditional TV has grown 25% for “Collision” on TNT on Saturdays and 6.5% for “Dynamite” on TBS on Wednesdays, compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Nielsen data. And those figures don’t include viewership on HBO Max, which isn’t public.
Notably, AEW’s cable viewership rose even more this year in the 25- to 54-year-old cohort that advertisers love, even as a streaming alternative emerged. All of this growth came as pay TV continued to wither, which affected sports leagues like the NHL and NBA.
That has AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan especially fired up.
“We’ve been picking up traction in these key demos,” Khan told Business Insider. Still, he said that among 18- to 24-year-olds, “a lot of the growth is on streaming.”
While ratings are trending higher, AEW is still clawing its way back out of a slump. Viewership for “Collision” and “Dynamite” was down 9% and 12%, respectively, year over year.

AEW has been locked in a battle with the category’s behemoth, WWE, which previously poached two of its biggest stars: Cody Rhodes and CM Punk.
Khan, a lifelong wrestling fan, spoke with BI about how streaming has jump-started AEW’s growth and why he’s not sweating the uncertainty surrounding the spinoff at Warner Bros. Discovery — his most valuable business partner.
AEW everywhere, all at once
In this cutthroat, crowded media landscape, Khan’s game plan is for AEW to be everywhere — from in-person events, to traditional TV, to streaming, to social media, to YouTube.
But from a monetization standpoint, not all platforms are equally valuable. AEW’s most lucrative businesses are in-person events and pay-per-view events, where it’s paid directly, though Khan said its backbone is its $185 million media deal with WBD across TBS, TNT, and HBO Max.
“The lifeblood of AEW, really, is the partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery,” Khan said.
Khan is betting that YouTube and social media will help hook younger generations on wrestling.
AEW
Social media and YouTube serve a different role: generating buzz and bringing in new viewers. AEW has to be where its fans are, though there’s a risk that showing highlights for free will train audiences to follow the action in short form, instead of watching full matches on TV or in person.
However, Khan thinks highlights on TikTok and YouTube drive higher demand for TV and events instead of eroding it — similar to how streaming matches coincided with a cable ratings bump.
“People want to watch the full event in its entirety, but also consume highlights on digital,” Khan said. “I think we found a great balance in that, and also offering access to a lot of the great classic matches in the AEW library to the fans has helped us drive a lot of viewership, as well.”
AEW must thread the needle between maximizing reach and ensuring that live matches and pay-per-view events “feel special,” as Khan put it. That means giving enough to lure casual fans and newcomers to TBS, TNT, and HBO Max, without giving so much that they don’t watch live.
AEW streams pre- and post-shows live on YouTube for big matches. But some of AEW’s rivals are going a step further by experimenting with livestreaming marquee events on YouTube, for free. WWE streamed its “Worlds Collide” event live on the platform in early June, and the NFL is hosting a regular-season game live on YouTube in September.
As of now, Khan isn’t following suit. The AEW CEO said he’s firmly committed to TBS, TNT, and HBO Max, no matter what’s happening at their parent company.
Not splitting hairs
WBD announced a long-awaited spinoff last month that will pull HBO Max away from TBS and TNT. Khan said the split shouldn’t affect AEW, which reached a media deal with WBD last fall.
“We have a great partnership with both sides,” Khan said, adding that AEW is “very well entrenched” across the forthcoming Streaming & Studios and Global Networks companies.
WBD’s media rights deal with AEW is unaffected by the split, so HBO Max will continue to stream matches that air live on TBS and TNT.
Regardless, a top media analyst thinks sports leagues like AEW should brainstorm alternatives for their next deals in light of the spinoff.
“Without a broadcast network or a streaming platform (we are not counting Discovery+), it is hard to imagine sports leagues being excited to work with GLN [Global Linear Networks] going forward, unless they have no choice,” Lightshed’s Rich Greenfield wrote in a mid-June note.
AEW has seen firsthand how HBO Max can effectively complement TBS and TNT. Once they belong to separate companies, that symbiosis could disappear. And while AEW could theoretically re-up with TNT Sports and find a separate streaming deal, Greenfield questioned that logic.
“GLN could license its sports streaming rights to third-parties (assuming contracts allow it)” Greenfield wrote. “But then why would a sports rights holder not just choose a vertically-integrated platform to begin with?”
Other analysts are less bearish, including Robert Fishman of MoffettNathanson. He wrote last month that “sports remains a key pillar to support affiliate fee stability in the years ahead” for the Global Networks business that will house TBS and TNT.
Instead of wondering what the future holds for WBD’s assets, Khan is focused on the present. The 100th episode of “Collision” airs Saturday night, and viewers can tune in on TNT — or Max.
Cars in a queue for the exits after Friday’s Justin Timberlake concert
Music fans have reported facing long delays as they tried to leave a Justin Timberlake concert.
The ten-time Grammy Award winner performed at Chelmsford City Racecourse, in Essex, on Friday evening as part of Chelmsford City Live.
But afterwards frustrated concert-goers said it had taken several hours to leave car parks as streams of vehicles queued for exits. One post claimed people were “stranded in a field”.
Chelmsford City Live’s promoters and the racecourse have been approached for comment.

Timberlake was the headliner on the first night of the three-day event, attracting a crowd of about 25,000.
Traffic issues had begun before the concert, when a car fire on the A131 caused jams.
After the event, as fans tried to head home, car parks became gridlocked as vehicles which had earlier been marshalled into rows tried to move off.
Another post said: “Justin Timberlake was brilliant but the whole evening has been overshadowed by the poorly managed traffic.”

“The most striking thing with this [updated] dataset is the overall survival, which is now at 26.6 months for the triplet. The objective response rate and duration of response have been very stable.”
Richard Finn, MD, a professor of medicine at the Geffen School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, at UCLA, detailed updated findings from the randomized phase 1/2 MORPHEUS-Liver trial (NCT04524871) evaluating the addition of tiragolumab—a novel anti–TIGIT antibody—to the established combination of atezolizumab (Tecentriq) and bevacizumab (Avastin) in patients with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
The updated analysis presented at the 2025 ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress, demonstrated a median overall survival (OS) of 26.6 months (95% CI, 22.6-40.6) in patients treated with the triplet regimen (n = 40) compared with 16.0 months (95% CI, 7.5-18.5) in those given atezolizumab plus bevacizumab alone (n = 18; HR, 0.55; 95% CI 0.29-1.04). According to Finn, this represents a notable outcome in the current therapeutic landscape, where multiple systemic options are now available for patients with advanced HCC. The objective response rate (ORR) and duration of response (DOR) data remained consistent with earlier reports. Patients treated with the tiragolumab regimen experienced an ORR of 42.5% (95% CI, 27.0%-59.0%) vs 11.1% (95% CI, 1.4%-34.7%) for those given the doublet. Progression-free survival (PFS) was extended to 12.3 months (95% CI, 8.2-17.5) vs 4.2 months (95% CI, 2.3-7.4) for the triplet and doublet, respectively (HR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.35-1.15).
Finn noted that the findings from this study formed the foundation for the phase IMbrave-152/SKYSCRAPER-14 trial (NCT05904886), an ongoing randomized, placebo-controlled trial assessing the triplet of tiragolumab plus atezolizumab and bevacizumab vs atezolizumab and bevacizumab with placebo. The co-primary end points are OS and PFS. These results are highly anticipated, as they will determine the viability of incorporating tiragolumab into standard first-line treatment for advanced HCC, Finn said.
Finn concluded that the MORPHEUS-Liver study represents one of the first robust datasets to evaluate a triplet immunotherapy regimen built on a bevacizumab-containing backbone in advanced HCC. Given the evolving treatment landscape—highlighted by the adoption of checkpoint inhibitors and anti-angiogenic agents in combination—the study adds important context for refining therapeutic strategies.
Quantum computing is an interesting investment sector. Several companies compete in this field, ranging from tech giants to start-ups. However, most companies within this field agree that monetization of quantum computing is still a few years away, but it’s getting closer.

The tricky thing for investors to balance is getting in at the right time. If you’re too early, you might miss the rise of current investment trends, like artificial intelligence (AI). If you’re too late and quantum computing becomes the next hot investment trend, you’ve missed out on potentially huge returns.
Right now is a solid time to invest in some quantum computing companies, especially if you pick the right ones.

Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL) is Google’s parent company and is devoting significant resources to quantum computing research. Google kicked off the quantum computing investment cycle in December with its Willow chip, which solved an incredibly difficult problem in record time and with superb accuracy. This highlighted other quantum computing stocks, causing the entire industry to rise.
Should Google deliver top-notch quantum computing technologies, it stands to benefit in one area in particular: AI. Quantum computing could unlock the next phase of AI, leading to unprecedented performance. This would give Google the leadership position in AI, leading to a huge increase in cash flows in its core business.
This gives Alphabet a huge incentive to continue innovating in quantum computing. With its already massive cash horde and cash flows, it has the resources to devote to this field.
Even with Alphabet’s innovative mindset and top-notch technology, the market doesn’t respect it. Investors are still worried about it losing market share from its Google Search business, so it trades at a cheap valuation.
GOOG PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts
It’s important to note that 18.5 times forward earnings is unbelievably cheap for a big tech stock like Alphabet. It basically indicates that the market values only its Google Search business, not any of the potential gains from quantum computing. As a result, I think it’s a great pick because it offers massive upside if it can win the quantum computing arms race, while also capitalizing on a potential turnaround in the market’s perception of its search business.
While Alphabet is a conservative choice for quantum computing, IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) is more aggressive. Its only revenue comes from various contracts that it has signed, and there is no backup plan; it’s quantum computing viability or bust.
However, because it’s a small company, incremental market share gains in quantum computing will deliver huge returns. This high-risk, high-reward approach isn’t for everyone, and investors must accept that the likelihood of failure is likely greater than success. But if IonQ gets it right, that risk could pay off big time.
Regarding a timeline for revenue and profitability, IonQ’s CEO believes that by 2030, the company will be profitable and generating nearly $1 billion in annual sales. That’s a mere five years away, but if IonQ can hit that timeline, the stock will be a successful investment.
I prefer IonQ over many of the other pure-play start-ups due to its partnership with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and its unique approach to quantum computing. It utilizes all-to-all qubit connectivity, enabling superior error correction. It also uses a trapped-ion approach, which allows quantum computing to occur at room temperature versus at nearly absolute zero (which is incredibly expensive to do). This makes IonQ’s approach sensible and scalable, making it the most likely to succeed of the various start-ups.
I think investors should have significant exposure to Alphabet and a small exposure to IonQ. This strategy involves investing most of their money in a stock that has a higher chance of success, while keeping a smaller bet on a long shot. However, if that long shot works out, it can deliver massive returns despite a small initial investment.
