Arteta on Zubimendi and Madueke arrivals | Press conference | News

Mikel Arteta has said his first impressions of his new signings have been very positive, as we kick off our Asia Tour in earnest.

We have added four players to the squad already this summer – Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke – and the boss was asked specifically about the latter two in his press conference on Monday in Singapore.

“It was a long, long process,” he said about completing the deal for Spain international midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. “He had a lot of opportunities to decide whether he wanted to come. The good news is that this club is amazing, and everybody wants to come to it. He left some very good opportunities to come to us.

“We are all very impressed with what we’ve seen in the last seven to ten days. Once you have the player daily there and you see his character, his personality, his intelligence, and how much he’s going to bring to the team. I’m very excited about it.”

The latest player through the door is England international forward Madueke, and the boss said it’s a coincidence that we have signed several players from Chelsea over the past few windows.

“It’s probably because they have some great players and a lot of players!” he said. “But we try to focus on the players that we want to sign, regardless of the club they are in. It’s probably a coincidence. What is not a coincidence is the squad and the quality of the squad. While I’m here as well, I congratulate them for winning the Club World Cup because I think it was a big achievement for them.

“With Noni, I’m very, very excited. You’ve seen the reaction of all the players as well, especially the ones that know him very well. He needs a little bit of a break now, but he will be with us soon showing what he’s going to bring to the team.”

The boss also revealed the latest on Gabriel, who missed the end of last season with a hamstring injury. He confirmed the Brazilian defender and the rest of the squad have reported back for duty in excellent shape.

“Well, we haven’t seen them for four or six weeks. They come back and they seem older, more mature, really excited. Gabi as well, because with his new contract as well he showed his commitment to the club and that he continues to grow in his role. So I’m very pleased.

“He played 45 minutes against Watford on Saturday. He looks in good shape. William Saliba as well. We have missed a lot of players at the end of the season, but they all look to be in the right direction and to be fit and contributing too.”

We will play AC Milan and Newcastle United while in Singapore, before ending our Asia Tour against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong. You can stream the matches by buy a Match Pass here.

  • The latest OnePlus rumor claims exciting new devices are coming in 2026

The latest OnePlus rumor claims exciting new devices are coming in 2026

OnePlus is expected to expand its smartphone and tablet offerings with new devices next year, a new report coming from China claims. The company known for its flagship killers plans to launch at least two compact devices, a phone and a tablet, and an unknown number of flagships.

After revealing the existence of the so-called OnePlus 15T, a compact flagship that’s expected to arrive sometime in 2026, reliable leaker Digital Chat Station is back with yet another exciting rumor.

According to DCS, OnePlus is working on a compact tablet that will be introduced alongside the company’s rumored OnePlus 15T. The upcoming slate will be equipped with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, which means it will be part of OnePlus’s flagship lineup.

While DCS didn’t reveal any other details about the OnePlus Pad 3 Mini (possible name), the tipster did say that the other compact device launching alongside the tablet, the OnePlus 15T, will feature a 6.3-inch display.

This claim doesn’t really come as a surprise, especially since the upcoming OnePlus 15T is not the company’s first compact flagship. The OnePlus 13T made its debut on the market back in April and features a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, just like the rumored OnePlus 15T.Another interesting piece of information tipped by DCS is that OnePlus will keep the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 15T instead of going for the optical variant.

But the most exciting news about the OnePlus 15T is that the phone will be powered by a huge 7,000 mAh battery, which is probably the biggest surprise considering that we’re talking about a “compact flagship.”

Both OnePlus 15T and OnePlus Pad 3 Mini are rumored to arrive in the first half of 2026. However, they will not be the only compact flagship devices coming out in H1 2026.

At least two other Chinese brands have similar products in the works: Oppo and Honor. The former is expected to launch the Find X9s early next year, while Honor’s Magic 8 Mini is also tipped to arrive around the same period in 2026.

Finally, Xiaomi and Vivo also plan to compete in the same “compact flagship” segment with their 16 series and X300 devices, which are expected to be introduced later this year.

Thomas Partey: Mikel Arteta ‘100%’ sure Arsenal followed right processes

Detectives started a investigation in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape.

Arsenal are in Singapore for their pre-season tour. They play AC Milan and Newcastle before travelling to Hong Kong to play Tottenham.

Arteta was asked in a news conference before they play Milan on Wednesday about the situation with Partey.

“The club was very clear in its statement,” Arteta said. “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”

He was then asked: “A lot of fans have questions over the way in which the matter was handled by the club. Do you feel confident and comfortable that the club followed all the right processes in that?”

    Arteta answered: “100%, yes.”

Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August.

He joined Arsenal for £45m from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.

He made 35 appearances in the Premier League last season and scored four goals as Arsenal finished second.

He also played 12 times in the Champions League as the Gunners reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Paris St-Germain.

Israeli forces have launched a ground and air assault on the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, prompting fresh waves of displacement among civilians already uprooted by the ongoing conflict.

The operation began early on Monday, just hours after the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to residents of six residential blocks in the south-western part of the city.

The area is currently packed with thousands of displaced people from Rafah and Khan Younis, in southern Gaza.

Local journalists told the BBC that Israeli tanks and military vehicles pushed into the city from the Kisufim checkpoint under heavy artillery and air cover.

Dozens of shells reportedly struck the Abu al-‘Ajin and Hikr al-Jami’ neighbourhoods, as ground forces moved in.

Footage shared on social media showed flashes of explosions and the sound of sustained gunfire as Israeli troops advanced.

Thousands of residents fled the city overnight towards the coastal area of al-Mawasi, near Khan Younis, which has become one of the few remaining zones of relative refuge in southern Gaza.

There are growing fears among local residents that the latest military push could be part of an effort to carve out a new corridor that would isolate Deir al-Balah from the surrounding central Gaza region.

If confirmed, this would be the third such axis, following the establishment of Israeli military routes through the Netzarim corridor in southern Gaza City and the Morag axis in Rafah.

The BBC has asked the Israeli military for comment.

ATC rejects Faisal Javed’s acquittal plea in Faizabad protest case

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday dismissed the acquittal plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Javed Khan in the Faizabad protest case.

The case pertains to protests staged by PTI leaders at Faizabad following the disqualification of the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan. The hearing was conducted by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra.

During the proceedings, several accused, including Amir Mehmood Kiyani, Rashid Hafeez, and Jamshed Mughal, were present in court, while Faisal Javed Khan, Haider Bin Masood, and Raja Majid submitted applications seeking exemption from personal appearance.

Legal representatives for the accused included Ilyas Siddiqui, Sardar Masroof Khan, Zahid Bashir Dar, and others. The court rejected Faisal Javed’s request for acquittal and proceeded with recording the statements of two prosecution witnesses. The judge stated that cross-examination could be conducted at the next hearing if the defense wished to do so.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was again absent from the hearing. The court noted his absence and reissued its previous order regarding his appearance.

A notable moment during the proceedings occurred when the judge addressed Amir Mehmood Kiyani, stating, “Mr. Amir Kiyani, please leave the courtroom. You are a proclaimed offender; if the police hear of this, they might arrest you.” The judge emphasized that Kiyani had been declared a proclaimed offender on three separate occasions.

Kiyani acknowledged his mistake and admitted to failing to appear in court. The judge instructed him to submit a formal request for relief, which the court would consider.

The hearing of the Faizabad protest case was adjourned until July 31.

  • Jelly Ko expands refill options on the back of strong sales and demand

Jelly Ko expands refill options on the back of strong sales and demand

The in-house brand of Style Story, an Australia-based online retailer of South Korean beauty products, has added a fourth refill product to its portfolio.

Its global bestseller, Bubble Tea Steam Cream, recently joined Dewy Glaze Toner, Be Jelly Overnight Dream Serum, and White Truffle Souffle Serum in having a 50ml version.

“Bubble Tea Steam Cream is the product that put Jelly Ko on the map, and it is now available in a convenient refill pouch that’s perfect for topping up your empty jar or packing in your carry-on luggage.

“Refills are performing really well for us. Last month, across our sales channels, refill packs made up almost 40% of total sales for Bubble Tea Steam Cream, which is our hero SKU and most repurchased product. That is a huge adoption rate and shows that customers are not only repurchasing, but actively opting for the more sustainable option,” Lauren Lee, founder of Jelly Ko and Style Story, told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.

In fact, the travel-friendliness of the refill packs was pointed out to Lee by customers.

“Many started using the refill packs as travel companions because they are resealable, lightweight, and easy to pack due to its flat packaging. It wasn’t actually something that we realised when we originally designed them, but now that we’ve seen how people are using them, we have adopted that into our messaging as well.

“It makes sense because traditional cosmetics can be bulky, breakable, heavy, and just a bit annoying to cart around, even if they are travel-sized. These refill packs take all the fuss out of travelling with your go-to skin care products.”

Going forward, Jelly Ko plans to continue growing its refillable offerings.

“We will be adding a refill version for our Cherry Blossom Sleeping Mask, which will also double as a travel pack, in the next production run. As for dedicated travel-sized products, we are not planning any at this stage. We currently offer sachet samples and these refill packs, which fill the gap for now.”

    Smooth like bubble

Jelly Ko’s Bubble Tea Steam Creamis claimed to be the world’s first bubble tea skin care, which has sold out six times since its launch in 2020.

Infused with collagen, panthenol, probiotics, squalane, and four types of hyaluronic acid, it is a nourishing yet lightweight moisturiser that “replaces oil, serum and cream in one step”.

Inspired by the popular beverage, this cream is fast-absorbing, and delivers deep hydration and buttery-soft smoothness targeted at improving dark spots, blemishes, and visible signs of ageing.

According to the brand, it helps to refine texture and tone for all skin types and ages; smooths and firms skin for a more even, radiant complexion; and does not contain additives, such as artificial fragrances, dyes, sulphates and parabens, that may trigger reactions.

In addition, the newly launched refillable pouch is said to use 90% less plastic, glass and paper, contributing to reduction of carbon emissions and packaging waste.

U.S. firms scramble to secure rare-earth magnets

China’s exports of rare-earth magnets to the United States in June surged more than seven times from the prior month, as American firms clamor to get hold of the critical elements following a preliminary Sino-U.S. trade deal.

In April, Beijing placed restrictions on several critical magnets, used in advanced tech such as electric vehicles, wind turbines and MRI machines, requiring firms to receive licenses for export. The move was seen as retaliation against U.S. President Donald Trump’s steep tariffs on China.

Beijing has a stranglehold on the production of rare-earth magnets, with an estimated 90% of the market, as well as a similar hold on the refining of rare-earth elements, which are used to make magnets.

The U.S. received about 353 metric tons of rare-earth permanent magnets in June, up 660% from the previous month, data released by the General Administration of Customs showed, though the exports were about half that from June last year.

The U.S. was the second-largest destination for China’s rare-earth magnets, behind Germany, as it relies heavily on their imports for its large manufacturing sector, particularly in automotive, electronics, and renewable energy.

In total, China exported 3,188 metric tons of rare earth permanent magnets globally last month, up nearly 160% from May, but 38% lower compared with the same period last year.

The growth in exports came after Washington and Beijing agreed last month on a trade framework that included easing controls on Chinese rare-earth exports as well as a rollback of some American tech restrictions for shipments to China.

AI behemoth Nvidia said last week it was planning to resume shipments of its H20 AI chips to China, after the exports were restricted in April. Last month, controls on American AI chip software companies’ business in China had also been rolled back.

Chinese rare-earth magnet producers started announcing the approval of export licenses last month.

If exports continue to increase, it will be of great benefit to companies that have been suffering from shortages of magnets due to the lengthy time required to secure export licenses. For example, several European auto-parts suppliers were forced to halt production in recent months.

The magnet shortages had also hit emerging industries such as humanoid robotics. In April, Elon Musk said production of Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots had been disrupted.

China’s controls on its rare-earths sector have prompted some global governments to reexamine their rare-earth supply chains and search for ways to support domestic mining of the minerals.

However, experts say that setting up alternatives to China’s rare-earth magnet supply chain could take years, as it requires an intricate process of rare-earth element refining and separation.

“The separation process is quite complex, and China has a lot of advantages in this after putting in decades of research into the processes,” Yue Wang, a senior consultant of rare earths at Wood Mackenzie, told CNBC last month.

One way that the U.S. has been trying to compensate for lack of rare-earth magnets is through increased recycling. Apple and miner MP Materials announced a $500 million deal last week for the development of a recycling facility that will reinforce the iPhone maker’s U.S. magnet supply chain.

Peter Alexander from financial consultancy Z-ben Advisors said that Washington’s latest concessions on tech restrictions were a reflection of just how much leverage China has in its trade relationship with the United States, speaking on CNBC’s “China Connection” on Monday.

Replit AI Deletes the Company’s Entire Database and Lies About it

When an AI is assigned for coding tasks, it is known to cause trouble, overlook security issues, slow down developers and disrupt the coding experience in various situations.

However, things worsen when AI decides to delete a database and then lie about it. Even worse, it does not provide a way to roll back the changes it made.

Jason M Lemkin, founder and CEO of SaaStr.AI, took to X to share his entire experience during his tests on vibe coding with Replit.

“I will never trust Replit again,” Lemkin wrote, after discovering that his entire database was wiped without warning. He said the AI had ignored a clear directive file, which specifically stated, “No more changes without explicit permission.”

According to screenshots shared by him, Replit’s AI acknowledged running a command without permission, calling it a “catastrophic error in judgment”. The assistant admitted they “panicked” after seeing an empty database and assumed the push would be safe.

Notably, there was no way to reverse the operation. “No ability to rollback,” Lemkin said. The AI’s own logs confirmed the irreversible deletion, as well as its awareness that it had violated a rule to “always show all proposed changes before implementing”.

“Replit is a tool, with flaws like every tool,” Lemkin conceded, while questioning its reliability in any production environment. “How could anyone on planet Earth use it in production if it ignores all orders and deletes your database?”

Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, responded on X, calling the incident “unacceptable and should never be possible”.

He said the team began rolling out automatic separation between development and production databases and assured that staging environments were in the works. Masad also cited improvements, including a one-click restore from backups, mandatory internal doc access for agents, and a “planning/chat-only” mode to prevent unwanted code changes.

“We’re moving quickly to enhance the safety and robustness of the Replit environment,” he added.
