Lionel Messi watched and cheered from the sidelines as his teammates Luis Suarez, Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende scored one each to help Inter Miami beat Pumas UNAM 3-1 on Wednesday night to advance in the knockout stages of the Leagues Cup. Inter Miami, with eight points from three matches in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Leagues Cup standings, are the first team from MLS to go through in the next round.
Rodrigo De Paul, who joined Inter Miami last month, scored his first goal for the club in the 45th minute, thanks to an assist from Suarez. De Paul’s goal leveled things up after Pumas UNAM took the lead though Jorge Ruvalcaba in the 34th.
Messi’s former Barcelona teammate, Suarez, put Inter Miami ahead when he converted a penalty kick in the 59th after a handball was called on Pumas defender Jose Caicedo in the penalty area.
It was Suarez first goal since he scored in Inter Miami’s Club World Cup match against Palmeiras on June 23. Allende finished Suarez’s second assist of the night in the 69th. During the game, Messi looked relaxed and cheered for every goal, the reactions of which went viral.
What happened to Lionel Messi?
Messi didn’t play the game due to an injury. The Argentine superstar is believed to have suffered a minor muscle injury in his right leg with no clear timeline for his return. Messi suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Inter Miami’s win over Necaxa on Saturday. He is also likely to miss Inter Miami’s upcoming clash against Orlando City.
“Messi underwent medical tests to evaluate the extent of the muscle discomfort he experienced during last night’s Leagues Cup match against Necaxa, which forced him to leave the field,” Inter Miami said in a statement on their website on August 4.
“The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment,” it added. So far, Messi has scored 19 goals and was involved in nine assists across 24 games for Inter Miami.
Fourth-seeded Ben Shelton beat second-seeded Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3 in an all-American Canadian Open 2025 semifinal match on Wednesday night.
Shelton will face 11th-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia, a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) winner over top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany in the first semifinal in the Masters 1000 hard-court event.
“I’ve seen so many big improvements in my game this week, that’s what I’m most happy about, how I’m executing, how little I’m hesitating, how I’m returning,” Shelton said.

“There are a lot of things to be proud about and beating two top-10 guys back-to-back is huge for me,” he added.
The 22-year-old Shelton is seeking his third career ATP Tour title. He won in Tokyo on hard courts in 2023 and in Houston last year on clay.
“I’m just really excited to see myself executing like this, not wondering if the shot is going to go in or out, but expecting it to go in,” Shelton said.
The 26-year-old Fritz has 10 career victories, winning this year on grass at Stuttgart and Eastbourne.
Endometriosis has often been characterised by its more noticeable symptoms—debilitating menstrual cramps, pelvic pain, and overwhelming fatigue. But what about those who exhibit none of these signs? Enter asymptomatic endometriosis, a lesser-known but equally concerning variant that can silently progress without warning. What happens inasymptomatic endometriosis? Why does it warrant attention? What can you do to safeguard your reproductive health?
Endometriosis, thyroid conditions, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), and other conditions can interfere with the hormones in your body. (Shutterstock)
Is asymptomatic endometriosis or silent endometriosis really silent?
“Asymptomatic endometriosis occurs when endometrial-like tissue grows outside the uterus, causing damage without presenting any noticeable symptoms”, says Dr Smeet Patel, an Endometriosis Excision Specialist. Many women remain oblivious to its presence until it significantly impacts their fertility or overall pelvic health, as per the journal Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology.
A staggering 30-40% of asymptomatic cases are often discovered inadvertently during fertility assessments or unrelated pelvic surgeries like cyst removal or hysterectomy, as per the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care. Unfortunately, by this time, irreversible damage may have already occurred to the reproductive organs.
What are the challenges of diagnosing endometriosis?
One of the most prominent challenges with asymptomatic endometriosis lies in its elusive nature. There are currently no reliable non-invasive screening methods available, as per the journal Cancers:
Lack of reliable tests: “Unlike other medical conditions, there’s no definitive blood test, ultrasound, or MRI capable of detecting early-stage or symptom-free endometriosis. Some healthcare professionals might recommend the CA-125 test, commonly associated with ovarian cancer; however, its inaccuracy can lead to unnecessary surgeries due to false positives,” shares Dr Patel.
Invasive diagnostics: The gold standard for diagnosing endometriosis is laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Yet, it cannot serve as a routine screening tool when no symptoms are present, leaving a concerning gap in reproductive healthcare, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
What are the risk factors of asymptomatic endometriosis?
You may be asking yourself, “If I have no symptoms, should I be concerned?” The answer largely depends on your risk factors and family planning goals.
Fertility concerns: If you’ve been trying to conceive for 6–12 months without success, a fertility evaluation is recommended, even in the absence of pain symptoms.
Family history: If endometriosis runs in your family, especially among first-degree relatives, your risk increases by up to tenfold.
Autoimmune issues: Women with autoimmune diseases (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis) or a history of allergies are also at a higher risk.
Prior pelvic findings: If an ovarian cyst or any other pelvic condition was identified through imaging or during a surgical procedure, consulting a specialist is wise.
“In our practice, we frequently see asymptomatic women who only discover endometriosis after years of unexplained infertility or during IVF cycles. By then, lesions may have already damaged ovarian tissue or caused irreversible scarring” Dr Smeet Patel emphasises the importance of proactive care.
Does asymptomatic endometriosis need to be treated?
The absence of typical symptoms does not equate to a lack of impact on reproductive health, as per the World Health Organisation.
Research indicates:
Contribution to infertility: Up to 50% of infertility cases can be linked to undiagnosed endometriosis. Silent lesions can cause inflammation, scarring, and even lead to ovarian cysts (endometriomas), potentially damaging reproductive organs.
Impact on egg quality: Inflammation related to endometriosis can impair egg quality, disrupt ovulation, or obstruct the fallopian tubes—issues that often only surface when couples encounter difficulties conceiving.
Dr Linda Griffith, a renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher, aptly states, “Endometriosis does not require pain to interfere with fertility. Inflammation can be enough to change egg quality or close up fallopian tubes.” Additionally, deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) can progress unnoticed, complicating future treatment options as per the International Journal of Fertility and Sterility.
Why is the early detection of asymptomatic endometriosis important?
While routine screening may not be essential for all women, being proactive can make a significant difference in their health.
Here are some steps you can take:
Educate yourself: Learning about endometriosis and its potential risks is crucial. Equip yourself with knowledge to make informed decisions regarding your health.
Consult with a specialised healthcare provider: If you belong to a high-risk group, discuss screening options with your physician or a fertility specialist. In some cases, specialised imaging or timely laparoscopy could aid in early detection.
Maintain regular check-ups: Regular gynaecological examinations can help monitor your reproductive health. Don’t hesitate to speak up about any concerns you may have, even if they seem minor.
Be proactive about fertility planning: Understanding your reproductive timeline and goals can facilitate earlier interventions if necessary.
The US is Cecilie Bahnsen’s biggest market, representing 20 per cent of the business, which exposes the brand to Trump’s tariffs. Fortunately, 100 per cent of manufacturing takes place in Europe, mainly across Italy and Portugal, so it’s facing the lower end of tariffs at 15 per cent. Nonetheless, it’s a challenge. “There’s a lot of strategic considerations around: do we take the margin hit on our side, or do we push it towards consumers?” Ejdrup says. “We’ve decided to take the hit on our side and not increase our prices significantly in the US, but obviously it comes at a price.”

Where tariffs stand now
On 1 August deadline, Vogue Business breaks down tariffs by country and what the rates mean for fashion.
Japan has been a challenging market for major luxury groups in the last quarter, after a major tourism spike following the crash of the yen last year caused a tough comparison. While tourism has normalised this year, Cecilie Bahnsen didn’t see the initial tourist sales spike, so growth has remained positively stable for the brand. Japan represents 17 per cent of the business, Ejdrup says.
Developing new categories
Bahnsen has started to diversify her assortment via some successful collaborations over the last five years, which the brand uses to test and develop new categories.
Its ongoing Asics sneaker collaboration launched in 2022 has been hugely successful, with every drop selling out across the majority of styles. Ejdrup recalls a recent trip to Tokyo for an Asics x Cecilie Bahnsen pop-up: “Cecilie is like a rockstar there, people queued all night and camped to meet her and get the [product].” Bahnsen has also collaborated with Mackintosh on coats (2020) and The North Face on bags and outerwear (2024). These tie-ups represent 15 per cent of the business, Ejdrup says, and she and Bahnsen want it to stay that way going forward. But they’re keen to develop additional categories in-house based on their learnings, to keep developing the design and offering the Cecilie Bahnsen consumer a fuller wardrobe.
“It’s an important part of growing up as a more emerging brand,” Ejdrup says. “You’re more dependent on partners for a lot of reasons — for production, for marketing. But as you grow up and mature, and it’s more established and you become more financially independent, I think it’s important to also look at doing some of these category extensions on your own.”
All staff, including Bahnsen and Ejdrup, will do shifts in the store on rotation, to get closer to the customer, Ejdrup says. “I think it’s so important that every single person in this team knows who our consumer is. I think maybe we haven’t been good enough — I think it’s definitely something where we can evolve.”
Both Ejdrup and Bahnsen see the store as a creative studio to test new ideas. “We can learn a lot from it,” Bahnsen says. “I’m excited for the team and I to be closer to the customer, to get their feedback, to understand how they live and what memories they have of the collections. We’ve done so many pop-ups — but now, we have built a universe.” Today’s show is set to be a snapshot of that universe, as Bahnsen embarks on her next decade.

Manchester United are now in pole position to land RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and if they do so, will tick off another one of Ruben Amorim’s transfer wishlist arrivals.
After a difficult start to life in Manchester, the United boss is preparing for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford. United finished 15th in the Premier League last term and instantly promised his side would be better next time around.
So far, three players have been added to the first-team squad. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are the two headline arrivals with Diego Leon adding depth at left wing-back. The priority right now is a striker and with less than two weeks until the new season kicks-off, there is a genuine chance that a move is completed by then.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United are now confident that Sesko prefers them over Newcastle United despite the Reds’ financial package falling below Newcastle’s.
United have bid €75million (£65.3m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons in an attempt to sign Sesko. After already beating their Premier League rivals to Mbeumo this window, the Reds could be about to continue their fine-tuned business by adding a goalscorer.
However, close to £75m for one player after already investing more than £120m on two first-team players will see United push their limit on PSR. With that in mind, it’s worth looking at different solutions the club could turn to.
The prospect of a swap deal makes sense. Although the term ‘swap deal’ never really plays out how it implies – clubs swap one player for another and that’s that – they are often utilised in today’s to decrease the damage done on the financial books.

For example, if United offered a player to Leipzig, the player sale would decrease the amount United paid for Sesko, as far as the financial books are concerned. Rasmus Hojlund is the most obvious candidate to be selected with Leipzig understood to hold an interest in him but there is a wildcard option that United would love to grant.
Jadon Sancho is still available for transfer after returning from his loan at Chelsea. A move to Juventus had looked like it was progressing well but that has gone quiet recently.
Before his return to England, the winger was impressive in Germany with Borussia Dortmund. A move back to the Bundesliga has constantly been touted and it wouldn’t go amiss to suggest he wouldn’t be a smart acquisition for Leipzig.
With Xavi Simons set to join Chelsea before the window shuts, Ole Werner’s squad will be short on attackers. The failure on United’s side to cash-in on Sancho has left them in a position where any move will do at this point of the window, especially with Amorim having no intention to integrate him back into his squad.
Partner Sancho either alongside Hojlund or as a separate add-on to the Sesko move, United could sell one of their available players and bring in a striker all in the same bulk of negotiations.

HOUSTON, TEXAS – DECEMBER 29: Kevin Love #42 of the Miami Heat works against Steven Adams #12 of the Houston Rockets during the first half at Toyota Center on December 29, 2024 in Houston, Texas.
The Boston Celtics have been busy reassembling their roster this offseason, prioritizing prudent investments as they focus on retooling beyond the 2025-26 campaign.
General manager Brad Stevens jump-started the process by trading away core pieces Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. More moves are still to come, though most of the heavy lifting is likely done.
What else could be on the docket?
Keeping future financial flexibility in mind, Ivan White of the Sporting News suggests the Celtics consider signing five-time All-Star forward Kevin Love.
“Although the team has made some minimal moves to address their departures,” White wrote, “the team is especially lacking inside. … To help with that issue, Boston could add a bit more depth inside by signing Kevin Love.”
Are the Celtics Pursuing Kevin Love?
Boston made another noteworthy move on Tuesday, dealing veteran role player Georges Niang and two second-round draft picks to the Utah Jazz for rookie guard RJ Luis Jr.
Trading Niang, whom Boston recently acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in the Porzingis deal, will save the Celtics $8 million in luxury taxes and allow them to stay under the second penalty apron.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Celtics turned around and used that new flexibility to sign forward Chris Boucher to a one-year, $3.3 million deal. Last season with the Toronto Raptors, the 6-foot-9 Boucher averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game.
Does that move take Boston out of the market for Love? For what it’s worth, White offered his suggestion prior to Niang’s departure.
“Although Love’s top priorities for his next team might be a big market and title contention,” White wrote, “the Celtics can offer him some legitimate playing time. As a great sports market and potentially only another year from contending again, Love going to Boston could be a move more suited as a long-term solution to cap off the potential Hall of Famer’s career.”
In 23 games (nine starts) with the Miami Heat last season, Love averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds.
What Teams Are Interested in Kevin Love?
Acquired earlier this offseason by the Jazz as part of a three-team trade, the 36-year-old Love is “actively exploring” ways to get out of Utah, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that Love would prefer to join the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers should he secure a contract buyout.
Siegel also raised the possibility of a reunion with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“Given his experience and championship DNA, Love would be a great voice for the Wolves to add in their locker room, especially with younger frontcourt pieces like Joan Beringer, Rocco Zikarsky, and Leonard Miller not necessarily ready to contribute right away.”

A woman who suffers with chronic pain has begged for the return of an emergency medical bag that she said had been stolen.
Jayne Waters, 42, from Crowthorne, Berkshire, keeps an emergency supply of morphine and medicine, along with electronic devices that block severe headaches and spinal pain.
The items were kept in a green Adidas bag, which her husband was “devastated” to find missing, when the couple returned to their car on Priory Street, Colchester, on Tuesday.
Essex Police confirmed it had received a report of a theft from a car park in Priory Street between 13:00 BST and 15:00 on Tuesday and that inquiries were ongoing.
Mrs Waters, an artist, said: “It was very, very upsetting, and they would be of absolutely no use to anybody who stole them.”
She said she was mainly bedbound, so it was unusual for the devices to be out of the house.
Her spinal implant is still activated but she is now without the remote and the serial number she would need to reprogramme it.
She appealed to whoever stole her items to hand them in, saying: “”I don’t understand your story or why you needed to do that and I’m sorry if life is hard for you.”
