  • First One UI 8 beta arrives on Galaxy A36, A35, A55 and A54, Galaxy S23 series too

First One UI 8 beta arrives on Galaxy A36, A35, A55 and A54, Galaxy S23 series too

In early August, Samsung revealed the roadmap for One UI 8 beta rollout for older and mid-range devices. According to it, the Galaxy A36, A35, A55 and A54 would get it in September and, indeed, here comes the first beta.

The Samsung Galaxy A36 is the newest model of the A-series (the A56 is suspiciously absent from the roadmap). The first beta for it has a build number A366EXXU4ZYHD and weighs 2.1GB. It’s available only to users in the US, the UK, Korea and India. You need to opt into the beta program using the Samsung Members app to get it.

The Galaxy A35 and A55 should be subject to the same regional restrictions (it looks like the roll-out in India is ahead of the other regions). In the case of the Galaxy A55, you are looking for build number A556EXXUAZYH6 and a download of 1.9GB.

The Galaxy A54 (but not the A34 for some reason) is also able to join the beta program – again, you need to sign up through Samsung Members. Then you can check for new updates and you should see One UI 8 beta.

There’s more, of course. Unofficial dates suggested that the Galaxy S24 series would get the beta on August 13 – and that was right on the money.

That same rumor said that the Galaxy S23 series will get the beta on September 8, i.e. Monday next week. However, it seems that the update has arrived a week early and the first reports of One UI 8 beta hitting Galaxy S23 models are already shared on the Internet.

  • Prompt Injection With Image Scaling Attacks Threatens AI System

Prompt Injection With Image Scaling Attacks Threatens AI System

As image generation and processing using AI tools become more common, ensuring thorough security throughout the process is even more necessary. Researchers have shared insights about a new attack strategy that exploits AI for data exfiltration via images. The attack couples the known threat of image scaling attacks against AI with prompt injection, demonstrating how malicious actions can be carried out sneakily.

Researchers Couple Prompt Injection Attacks With Image Scaling

In a recent post, researchers from the cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits shared details about how prompt injection attacks can exploit image scaling in AI tools to perform malicious actions. These actions can range from simple activities like opening an app to data exfiltration – all without alerting the victims.

Image scaling attacks, first demonstrated by researchers from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany, in 2020, involve exploiting the image scaling process of AI systems. When processing images, AI systems scale down the input images for faster and better processing before forwarding them to the model. A malicious actor can exploit this reduction in image size to manipulate how the model processes the image. In the case of the Trail of Bits researchers, they exploited this image scaling for prompt injection attacks.

    Source: Trail of Bits

As demonstrated, the researchers injected a malicious prompt into an image, ensuring the prompt remains invisible when the image is viewed at full scale. However, upon rescaling by an AI system, the change in image resolution makes the prompt visible to the system. Once forwarded to the AI model, the prompt tricks the model into considering it as part of the instructions. As a result, the model executes the respective malicious action mentioned in the prompt without the user’s knowledge.

In their experiment, the researchers demonstrated this attack strategy against the Gemini CLI with the default configuration for the Zapier MCP server. They uploaded an image hiding a malicious prompt to exfiltrate user data from Google Calendar to a given email address.

The researchers have shared the details of this attack strategy in their post.

Most AI Systems Are Vulnerable To This Attack

According to the researchers, this attack, with minor adjustments depending on the target AI model, works against most systems, such as:

For further testing, the researchers have also publicly released an open-source tool called “Anamorpher” on GitHub. This tool – backed by a Python API – lets users visualize the attacks against multimodal AI systems. Currently in beta, it creates images crafted for multimodal prompt injections when downscaled.

    Recommended Mitigations

According to the researchers, limiting downscaling algorithms will not help prevent these attacks, given the widespread attack vector. Instead, the researchers recommend limiting upload dimensions and avoiding image downscaling. Besides, ensuring an exact preview of the image that the model sees would also help detect any prompt injections that might go unnoticed when uploading the images.

In addition, the researchers urge the implementation of robust defense strategies to prevent multimodal prompt injection attacks, such as deploying mandatory user confirmation before executing any instructions provided as text within images.

  • 39% of gamers in China are interested in generative AI’s application in games

39% of gamers in China are interested in generative AI’s application in games

According to a new report, gamers in China are expressing a “high interest” in generative AI.

Niko Partners’ China Gamer Behaviour and Market Insights report, published on August 27, 2025, surveyed 1,058 gamers in China to provide insights on player demographics, behaviour, and engagement in 2025.

The report found that 39.4% of gamers in China are interested in generative AI’s application in games, while 85.2% are aware of the technology.

Niko Partners noted that Chinese studios are “ahead of the game” with 60% already using generative AI in their development pipelines.

The analysis firm, in particular, highlighted NetEase, which has “integrated multiple generative AI features into Justice Online Mobile, allowing players to interact with smart NPCs or create custom videos with their in-game character.”

Elsewhere, the report found that esports and game livestreaming remain “key verticals” in China in 2025.

46.5% of respondents said they have engaged with esports, defined as having played or watched an esports game, or competed in a tournament themselves, while one in four respondents said they regularly watch game livestreamers, with “influencers and streamers playing a key role in game marketing and promotion.”

According to Niko Partners’ report, short video apps, like Douyin (TikTok) and Kuaishou, have continued to grow in importance and are “key marketing channels for game developers looking to target players in the country.”

The survey found that these short video apps are one of the leading sources of video game information, with 41% of gamers in China getting new game information from these platforms, compared to game platforms and stores (38.7%), social media (33.9%), messaging apps (33.4%), and influencers and streamers (31.6%).

Niko Partners noted that while “short video is the leading source for both mobile and PC gamers,” game platform recommendations are the leading source on console.

The report also found that mini games have “emerged as a notable segment” in China.

The firm defines mini games as those “can be played instantly, without download, and are typically available within platforms and apps such as WeChat and Douyin.”

The report found that 84.4% of gamers in China have played a mini game, with 17.7% of women playing these games daily, compared to 10.3% of men.

“Mini games are reaching a broader and more casual demographic in China, already accounting for nearly 10% of total player spending on video games,” Niko Partners stated.

In June, Niko Partners released its Market Model Reports, which reported that the Asia, Middle East, and North Africa (MENA) games markets generated $86.6 billion from player spending on software and services in 2024, marking a 1.4% increase.

The report also projected that “the regions’ development will continue reliably through 2029” with revenue estimated to reach $96 billion in Asia and MENA by 2029.
