  • New Digital Intervention for Patients With Increased Suicide Risk

New Digital Intervention for Patients With Increased Suicide Risk

A new mobile app has been shown to reduce suicidal behavior among high-risk psychiatric inpatients. The app, OTX-202, reduced the recurrence of inpatient psychiatric post-discharge suicide attempts by 58.3% for patients with a prior suicide attempt.1 However, there was no significant difference in time to first suicide attempt between those who used the app and those who did not.

The recent multi-site, double-blind study enrolled 339 adult inpatients with a psychiatric disorder, who received either the OTX-202 app or an active control app, in addition to their usual treatment (including suicide risk assessment, supportive listening, crisis resources, clinician assessment, safety planning, and referral to outpatient treatment). Exclusion criteria included “acutely impaired mental status inhibiting capacity to provide informed consent (eg, uncontrolled psychosis or mania, or under the influence of alcohol or other substances)” and “cognitive impairments or medical conditions that could adversely affect the integrity of the data.”1 The intervention app was designed to deliver suicide-specific cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) modules, while the control app provided general psychoeducation and safety planning. Suicidal ideation was measured throughout the study by the Clinical Global Impression for Severity of Suicide Change scale. For both groups, the first app session was completed prior to hospital discharge and the remaining sessions could be completed after discharge.

Most notably, there was a significant sustained reduction in suicidal ideation among participants who used OTX-202; the reduction persisted for up to 24 weeks after discharge. In contrast, the control group’s suicidal ideation levels, which initially decreased, rebounded by the 24-week follow-up. The odds of clinical improvement were also higher for the treatment group, with 97.9% vs 87.5% for treatment vs control and odds ratio, 7.59; 95% CI, 1.14-153.62; P = .04. The authors hypothesized that the digital intervention may be able to maintain therapeutic progress from inpatient treatment outside of the structured clinical setting.

The app focuses on ensuring access to specialized, suicide-focused therapy, which is particularly important during the high-risk post-hospitalization period. Therapeutic modules found on the app are delivered in brief 10 to 15 minute sessions and are designed to reinforce key CBT principles for managing suicidal thoughts and developing coping strategies. Senior author Seth Feuerstein, MD, JD, a lecturer in psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, underscored this critical need, stating in a press release, “Patients and those who care for them do not have access to reliable and effective tools and resources to reduce future suicide risk. This population faces arguably the biggest gap in access to effective interventions of any leading killer.”2

The weeks and months following discharge from psychiatric hospitalization are among the highest-risk periods for suicide attempts and death; this new digital intervention targets the vulnerable group of individuals who are at higher risk for multiple suicidal behaviors or attempts. According to study author Craig Bryan, PsyD, a professor at Ohio State University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, the app offers a novel solution to the challenge of connecting patients with specialized, life-saving therapy after they leave the hospital. “Although suicide-specific therapy is highly effective for reducing suicidal thoughts and urges, finding therapists who know how to do this life-saving therapy after leaving the hospital can be challenging. OTX-202 provides a possible solution to that problem,” he noted.2

‘Prince William has unique plans for his reign’

Prince William has ‘unique’ plans for his reign as king in the future and Harry is a liability, a royal expert believes.

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield claimed this while speaking to the Fox News Digital.

“Harry will raise his children in the United States. Strangers to their cousins. King Charles just wants peace, but I believe Prince William is checked out,” the expert said.

Prince William wants to protect his family and the future of the monarchy, Kinsey said and added, “He has unique plans for his reign. He [wants to] be a good king, and Harry is a liability.”

Schofield also believes the royals are not ready to trust Harry again – if ever.

She further said, “It’s too little too late. Harry opens ‘Spare’ by revealing that King Charles begged him and his brother not to ‘make my final years a misery.’ I find this request so much more heartbreaking now that we know of the king’s cancer. The Oprah Winfrey interview, ‘Spare,’ the Netflix series – it’s too much hurt.”

The fresh claims came as Prince Harry will attend the 2025 WellChild Awards, taking place in London on September 8th.

This sparkling ceremony celebrates the inspirational achievements of seriously ill children and those who care for them.

  • Lenovo Legion Go 2 to launch at IFA Berlin, rumor claims

Lenovo Legion Go 2 to launch at IFA Berlin, rumor claims

Lenovo showcased a prototype of the Legion Go successor at CES earlier this year. According to a new rumor, the new handheld, likely to be called Legion Go 2, will make its official debut at the upcoming IFA Berlin, which starts on September 5.

Tipster Evan Blass has revealed details regarding Lenovo’s announcements at IFA Berlin. As per the marketing materials shared by the tipster, the second-gen Legion Go will be equipped with AMD’s Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architecture based Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU.

AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme’s key strength is improved graphics, which is powered by the Radeon 890M GPU. The new handheld from Lenovo is, therefore, expected to offer improved graphics performance in games.

In terms of design, the handheld will largely look similar to the original Legion Go. It will come with an 8.8-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz and 1600p resolution. The handheld will also offer a new coating that is said to be fingerprint resistant.

Lenovo’s upcoming handheld will feature a fingerprint reader and improved rear button layout as well. It will offer detachable controllers similar to its predecessor.

The prototype that Lenovo showed at CES packed a 74Whr battery that supported 65W fast charging. It is expected to offer up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. The Legion Go 2 will likely run Windows 11 Home out of the box.

  • Google Pixel 10 series review: Don’t call it an Android

Google Pixel 10 series review: Don’t call it an Android

I’ve been using a pre-production version of the new software, but even for early Pixel software, there have been more minor UI hitches than expected. Several times, I’ve seen status bar icons disappear, apps display issues, and image edits becoming garbled. There are no showstopping bugs, but the new software could do with a little cleaning up.

The OS changes are more than skin-deep—Google has loaded the Pixel 10 series with a ton of new AI gimmicks aimed at changing the experience (and justifying the company’s enormous AI spending). With the more powerful Tensor G5 to run larger Gemini Nano on-device models, Google has woven AI into even more parts of the OS. Google’s efforts aren’t as disruptive or invasive as what we’ve seen from other Android phone makers, but that doesn’t mean the additions are useful.

It would be fair to say Magic Cue is Google’s flagship AI addition this year. The pitch sounds compelling—use local AI to crunch your personal data into contextual suggestions in Maps, Messages, phone calls, and more. For example, it can prompt you to insert content into a text message based on other messages or emails.

Despite having a mountain of personal data in Gmail, Keep, and other Google apps, I’ve seen precious few hints of Magic Cue. It once suggested a search in Google Maps, and on another occasion, it prompted an address in Messages. If you don’t use Google’s default apps, you might not see Magic Cue at all. More than ever before, getting the most out of the Pixel means using Google’s first-party apps, just like that other major smartphone platform.

Google says it can take about a day after you set up the Pixel 10 before Magic Cue will be done ingesting your personal data—it takes that long because it’s all happening on your device instead of in the cloud. I appreciate Google’s commitment to privacy in mobile AI because it does have access to a huge amount of user data. But it seems like all that data should be doing more. And I hope that, in time, it does. An AI assistant that anticipates your needs is something that could actually be useful, but I’m not yet convinced that Magic Cue is it.

  • Exchange Online outage affects European users

Microsoft Exchange Online is experiencing an outage that mainly affects European users. Users have been experiencing delays in sending and receiving emails since around 12:30 p.m. Central European Summer Time.

Several users have reported experiencing problems, although the exact extent of the issue is still unclear. Microsoft acknowledges the problems on a support page in the closed admin center. The company states that “some users located in Europe” may experience problems sending or receiving emails via Exchange Online.

The tech giant has identified the cause of the problem. It involves “an abundance of service-to-service calls” that are causing authentication issues. Microsoft is trying to resolve the problem by limiting such calls, but has not yet announced a definitive solution.

    Broader context

This outage affects the email service used by millions of business users for daily communication. Users who rely on Exchange Online for business communication should expect ongoing delays. Microsoft is working on a solution but has not provided a timeframe for full service restoration.

This is far from the first outage affecting Microsoft services this year, from Outlook problems to Teams outages or complete 365 outages. The question is whether Microsoft can identify a pattern here, but as the second-largest cloud player and by far the most popular software provider, even a minor problem can quickly affect hundreds of thousands of users or more.

  • NetEase shuts down T-Minus Zero Entertainment

NetEase shuts down T-Minus Zero Entertainment

Game Developer can confirm that Chinese publisher, developer, and studio investor NetEase has shut down T-Minus Zero Entertainment, the game studio founded by BioWare alumni Rich Vogel in 2023.

Vogel initially posted on the company’s LinkedIn page about NetEase’ decision to cease its partnership with T-Minus Zero. “We deeply appreciate NetEase for providing us with both ample runway and support – from helping us find potential investors to giving us the time and budget to develop our game into a fully playable hands-on demo. It has generated a lot of interest.”

He later told Game Developer that NetEase has shut down T-Minus Zero.

T-Minus Zero had been working on “third-person online multiplayer action game set in a sci-fi universe,” according to the company’s founding announcement. It appears the project was well-liked by high-level NetEase employees. Former NetEase president of global investments and partnerships Simon Zhu commented on the company’s post, stating that the game “delivers [the] great fantasy of fighting against 15th floor kaiju to protect the city you care about.”

Meanwhile NetEase head of brand/publishing for North America & Europe Cisco Maldonado called it a “super great concept and [in my opinion] a solid market fit” in a post on Vogel’s page.

A spokesperson for NetEase initially told Game Developer that the company is “actively working with the studio [to] find a new publishing home.” They added that the company “cannot confirm any layoffs,” and that it was “working with the full studio in terms of this transition and future publishing plans.”

NetEase is reversing course on millions of dollars worth of studio investments

NetEase has spent 2025 unwinding a number of international investments in studios like Skybox Labs, Ouka Studios and Jark of Sparks, also laying off US-based developers working on live service megahit Marvel Rivals

This hasn’t been a complete withdrawal. Rebel Wolves and Anchor Point made statements saying they were not affected by a business pivot reported on by Bloomberg News.

Game Developer has reached out to NetEase to follow up on the studio’s previous statement and will update this story when a response is issued.
