  • Schumacher in McLaren link after Cadillac deal collapses

Schumacher in McLaren link after Cadillac deal collapses

Last month, The Race reported that Mick Schumacher was on the verge of joining Cadillac in a dual role: reserve driver for its Formula 1 team while also racing in the World Endurance Championship with Cadillac Team Jota.

On paper, it looked like the perfect match. Yet the deal collapsed, and Schumacher will not represent the American manufacturer after all – nor is he expected to extend his current deal with Alpine.

Here’s why – and where McLaren fits into the picture:

Why Schumacher said no to Cadillac

Cadillac’s proposal was attractive: a return to the F1 paddock, a place that continues to obsess 43-time grand prix starter Schumacher, combined with a seat in one of the WEC top teams, and with a salary significantly higher than his current package.

However, the contract he was offered ultimately failed to convince him. It’s unclear whether the sticking point lay on the F1 or the WEC side, but what’s certain is that Schumacher would have enjoyed far less freedom with Cadillac Team Jota than he does now.

At Alpine, he has a privileged role: he gets most of the new tyres in free practice and has handled every qualifying session since the beginning of the 2025 season.

Cadillac, by contrast, enforces strict equality across its driver contracts: same terms, same pay, regardless of reputation. Even Jenson Button’s F1 world championship title did not grant him any special privileges.

    What next for Schumacher?

With the Cadillac option gone, Schumacher’s obsession remains on F1. The only realistic remaining vacant seat is at Alpine, which has Pierre Gasly under contract for 2026 but has said nothing about his potential team-mate. However, Schumacher does not appear to feature in the French outfit’s plans.

Staying with the Alpine endurance team is not entirely impossible, but looks unlikely as well, even though Alpine Motorsport vice president Bruno Famin will do everything he can to keep him, as he considers him to be an essential part of his project.

IndyCar has also crossed Schumacher’s mind, but nothing tangible has emerged. And while his passion for single-seaters is understandable, walking away now from what has been an impressive start to his endurance career would be a pity.

For better or worse, Schumacher’s future seems destined to remain in sportscar racing. And according to The Race’s sources, the 2020 Formula 2 champion is in positive talks with McLaren, which is set to enter the WEC in 2027 after a development year in 2026.

Linking up with a manufacturer that’s arriving in endurance racing with serious ambition – while also being the absolute benchmark team in F1 – could prove an ideal long-term project.

Cadillac forced back to the market

Schumacher’s U-turn has left Jota scrambling for alternatives.

The team must find a replacement for Jenson Button, just as it believed its 2026 line-up was settled. With nine manufacturers competing in Hypercar next season, options are limited.

Candidates include Cadillac’s IMSA SportsCar Championship drivers Jack Aitken and Felipe Drugovich, the latter also having chased a Cadillac F1 seat.

Antonio Felix da Costa was another name in the frame. As reported by The Race, he is set to leave Porsche and knows Jota well, having won the WEC and the Le Mans 24 Hours in LMP2 with the team in 2022. However, The Race can confirm that he is no longer available.

That leaves Callum Ilott as the current favourite, and The Race understands that talks between Cadillac and the ex-Ferrari test driver have taken place recently.

After racing for Team Jota in 2024, he switched back to IndyCar with Prema. But with Prema’s US project now in jeopardy, the 26-year-old Briton is considering a return to Europe.

Quick if not always consistent, he enjoys the backing of Sam Hignett, Jota’s co-owner, which could tip the balance in his favour.

Oppo Find X9 design leaked, phone listed on Geekbench

The Oppo Find X9 is rumored to launch in October alongside the Find X9 Pro, and possibly another model. The phones have been part of several leaks in the recent weeks, and now we have another one that suggests the base model’s design.

As per a render shared by tipster PhoneArt (UniverseIce), the Find X9 will sport a rectangular rear camera module. This would be a departure from the circular unit that we’ve seen in the Find X8 lineup.

The image shows a triple rear camera setup on the Oppo Find X9 along with the Hasselblad branding. The front of the phone is seen with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, and symmetrical bezels.

A recent rumor suggested that the phone will get a 50 MP Sony Lytia LYT-808 primary rear sensor with OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide camera, and a 50 MP periscope telephoto unit. It is rumored to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 SoC. It is said to get a 6.95-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.

Meanwhile, the phone has also been spotted on Geekbench with the model number CPH2791. It is listed with the Dimensity 9500 SoC, 16GB of RAM, and Android 16. The benchmark scores are similar to phones with a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, but that’s probably because the listed phone is an early test unit.

Oppo should start teasing the Find X9 series soon, as the lineup is expected to be unveiled in October.

Rob Pellow Encourages Artists to Celebrate Their Distinctive Selves

An always-positive problem solver with a background both client-side working at Dyson and then in technology companies before joining Armadillo, Rob Pellow brings his own experience of real client challenges, as well as a strong technical understanding on how to solve them.

Nothing imbues Rob with more energy and enthusiasm than when technology meets creative and strategy – especially when innovations provide an exciting opportunity to meet business objectives in a meaningful way. His passion for problem solving is matched only by his love of painting little plastic men.

Rob recently sat down with LBB to look back on words of wisdom that helped him become a stronger team player and understand his own strengths and values…

If there is one piece of wisdom from my career that’s always stayed with me is that while I’m very good at gut feel/improvisation/flying by the seat of my pants, all of that becomes WAY more valuable if I let more people help craft the story, identify the key points and then let me improvise around them.

I have a history of believing I’m only valuable if I have ALL the answers on my own, so this was a real turning point – it was actually not that long ago when I discovered this.

Somewhere in 2020/2021, I was working at Armadillo and had been here about three years at this point but we were deep in the lockdown strangeness. Part of that strangeness was that we’d been through some fairly major re-jigging of how the teams were set up and how our roles needed to evolve in this new world and that had left me very reflective and needing to find new anchors to better understand my own value.

The actual conversation happened just after we’d delivered a pitch. During that process we’d spent more time physically together as a pitch team than we had in months (lockdown/tiers – remember those!).

We also were quite a lean pitch team so I was firmly involved in a few practical bits of creating the literal story with working web apps/emails/creative and hadn’t had much time to think about how I was going to present.

The day before we had a run-through that didn’t go well. I was assuming I’d just be able to ad-lib my way to glory but that had turned into a meandering beige. We stopped and picked apart the bits we were trying to get across, I forced myself to make notes, we ran it again three or four more times, really getting pointy.

Then when we came to deliver the actual pitch (other than our CEO getting harassed by someone desperately trying to deliver a parcel) it came out naturally and my improv instincts were never stronger because they had a focus.

The actual conversation about this was a reflective one directly after the pitch. It came from our CEO who was my manager at the time. I’d worked for him for a few years at this point and always admired his mix of strategic pragmatism and excited ambition.

This was the most direct and timely feedback I’d gotten from him; there was a lot of detail and, more importantly, tempered the validation of something going well with the specifics of where my specific value was added.

I think it struck such a cord because it was delivered so quickly and specifically, it helped me to celebrate that which was uniquely me with how that fits into a team. Considering the background, it planted a really visible seed for me in working out that I didn’t need to know or do everything to have value. It was a key driver for how I was able to embrace more people around me to lift what I can bring, while being a member of a high-performing team.

The belief that I’d carried most of my career, that I needed to be the one man-band to be successful, had started to really erode any sort of direction or focus for me. This wasn’t the only way nor the only person that started to help me understand that wasn’t true, but it is the one that sticks in my head when I find myself feeling I must have every answer. It’s helped me find the best people to surround myself with, to seek out more opinions and to focus my strengths where they can have the biggest impact.

As I’ve progressed in my career, I re-evaluated this piece of advice all the time – it’s a constant battle to sit on my hands and let everyone else bring their expertise and reminding myself I don’t have a point to prove! At its core, this was about finding the right point to have an impact vs trying to impact everything.

This is advice I am very happy to pass on to others. Seeing ourselves having impact is the way we understand the value we bring. If, like me, people aren’t seeing that, it can lead to that sense of flailing around trying to solve anything and everything. In nearly every case, starting with the unique talents we all have is the best foundation. Someone else helping provide the focus and the right feedback in a timely manner is the way to shape that into long term value and that’s now the impact I am trying to have for them.

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar shares one thing women must check before dating men: ‘Can he…’ | Health

Published on: Sept 02, 2025 03:01 pm IST

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar is blending dating advice with fitness goals, urging women to look for partners who can cook and share the kitchen load.

Cooking is no longer seen as a woman’s responsibility alone. In today’s world, kitchens are where equality, health, and shared responsibilities truly begin. After all, preparing a wholesome meal is as important for fitness as exercise, and sharing the load at home sets the tone for stronger relationships.

Rujuta Diwekar advocates for shared cooking responsibilities in relationships.

Highlighting this thought, celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar recently shared her take on why cooking skills matter, especially when it comes to choosing a life partner. (Also read: Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar says ‘modaks are already healthy,’ urges people not to swap jaggery with stevia )

Why cooking skills matter in relationships

Sharing a clip on her Instagram, Rujuta gave a rather unusual piece of dating advice for young women. “I have one dating advice which is for girls and it’s that if you find a guy who cannot make dal rice you should not even date the guy, forget going and marrying the guy,” she said in the video.

She went on to explain the logic behind it, “Because if there is no load sharing in the kitchen, then there is load shedding. We all know that load shedding in electricity means long power cuts. Similarly, in the kitchen, if one person refuses to share the load, there will be consequences.”

What is load shedding in the kitchen

According to Rujuta, “Load shedding in the kitchen means ordering food from outside. If there is no load sharing, there will definitely be load shedding. And the more the load shedding, the more the weight will increase. The only way to stay lean is to cook often, eat often, and not have barriers of gender when it comes to cooking and enjoying a wholesome meal.”

September’s PS Plus monthly games are now available

Those PlayStation Plus subscribers among us are now able to access the monthly games for September.

The three games now available across the service’s Premium, Extra, and Essential tiers are:

    • Psychonauts 2
    • Stardew Valley
    • Viewfinder

If you are yet to play Stardew Valley, now is the time really. Last year, solo developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone released Stardew Valley’s bumper 1.6 update, which essentially boosted the game to an almost 2.0 status, introducing a vast number of features to the base game such as new NPC dialogues, home renovations and turtle pets. The developer also recently announced another surprise update, despite saying he was going to hold off until his next game – Haunted Chocolatier – was released.

Psychonauts 2, meanwhile, comes from the always creative minds at Double Fine, and was met with overwhelming praise on its release. Edwin Evans-Thirlwell called it “witty, eccentric and imaginative” in Eurogamer’s own review, noting it had a “more developed understanding of mental health” than its predecessor.

Lastly, we have Viewfinder, which is a puzzle game that asks players to “challenge perception, redefine reality, and reshape the world” all with an instant camera. Chris Donlan called it all “magical” in Eurogamer’s Viewfinder feature.

  • Quatrefolic’s skin photoprotection & regeneration role

Quatrefolic’s skin photoprotection & regeneration role

Vitamin B9 (folate) is essential for cell division and DNA synthesis, making it a pregnancy must-have. But research shows folate’s benefits extend far beyond reproduction—it supports cardiovascular health, fertility, mood balance, cognitive, and bone health.1

Now, new evidence reveals Quatrefolic®, the active folate form, effectively protects skin structure from environmental stressors like sun exposure. This finding has sparked growing interest from both women and men, opening an exciting new market for this powerful vitamin.2

New Evidence, New Market Opportunity: Skin Health

Skin health is more than simply reducing wrinkles and preventing a dry, dull texture. Reducing free radicals and inflammation generated by direct sun exposure protects the structure of the skin and its normalised regeneration (healthy skin regenerates itself every 27 to 30 days).

One-carbon metabolism needs folate as this vitamin is essential for skin cell growth, repair, and regeneration. However, solar radiation reduces skin folate levels, impairing these processes.

Unlike folic acid, bioavailable 5-MTHF as Quatrefolic® has shown improved stability, penetration, and antioxidant properties, making it a promising skincare ingredient.

Previous studies demonstrate Quatrefolic®’s ability to protect dermal fibroblasts against UVA-induced oxidative stress, enhance their proliferation, reduce DNA damage, and support collagen synthesis. These findings highlight Quatrefolic®’s potential as a science-backed solution for anti-aging and photoprotection. Folate as Quatrefolic® has been shown to boost DNA repair and synthesis, which is necessary for healthy skin cell production and turnover, antioxidant activity, and enhanced collagen production. Thus, it contributes to skin health and protection against sun-induced damage.

New research shows Quatrefolic® 5-MTHF supports healthy skin by protecting against sun damage.3 Dermal cells were exposed to UVA radiation, then treated with 5-MTHF before or after. The results were impressive:

    • 5-MTHF was readily absorbed by skin cells and remained stable for up to 48 hours, crucial for cellular repair.

    • At higher concentrations, 5-MTHF significantly reduced oxidative stress and damage from UVA exposure.

    • 5-MTHF supplementation improved skin cell viability and DNA integrity.

These findings highlight Quatrefolic®’s potential as a science-backed solution for anti-aging and skin protection.

    Bioavailability is Key

Another point to consider is the importance of bioavailability for active ingredients, and Quatrefolic® has clinical evidence to support its superiority here as well. Earlier this year, Gnosis shared results from a clinical study in Indonesia that confirmed Quatrefolic® (as HY-FOLIC®) is twice as bioavailable as folic acid, with significantly higher Cmax and AUCt values. These findings reinforce Quatrefolic®’s superiority in both efficacy and versatility, expanding its relevance from foundational nutrition to skin regeneration and beauty-from-within applications.4

    Conclusion

While folate as Quatrefolic® speaks first to women’s health needs, new skin health evidence highlights its value across all genders.

  • This new Linux desktop is almost a dead ringer for OS X

This new Linux desktop is almost a dead ringer for OS X

Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google.

    ZDNET’s key takeaways

    • The Gershwin desktop is being developed for both BSD and Arch Linux.
    • Gershwin is based on GnuStep and resembles MacOS.
    • You can spin up a virtual machine and try the alpha version of Gershwin.

Confession time: I don’t give any of the BSD-based distributions enough attention. One reason is that I find BSD (and all its children) not really suited for people who’ve never used Linux. There’s a reason for that issue: BSD is not Linux. BSD is more Unix than Linux, and Unix isn’t an OS that anyone not well-steeped in Linux should touch.

I’ve been using Linux for nearly 30 years, and every time I touch a BSD, I get confused.

Also: Thinking about switching to Linux? 9 things you need to know

That being said, a new desktop environment is being developed for both BSD and Arch Linux, called Gershwin, that could give the MacOS desktop a run for its money.

However, be aware that Gershwin is in early development, and the only stable way to try it out is via GhostBSD. Even then, Gershwin isn’t fully usable yet. In fact, there’s not much you can do with Gershwin, other than get a peek at what it looks like. And there’s not much you can change (yet). You can also install Gershwin on Arch Linux, but I wouldn’t recommend that route because it’s unstable.

Also: 8 ways I quickly leveled up my Linux skills – and you can too

Gershwin is based on GnuStep. If you know anything about GnuStep, you know it was a rewriting of NextStep (which inspired AfterStep). That’s a lot of steps.

All apps are managed through the dock (as opposed to having a desktop full of icons). There’s an app launcher, but I’ve yet to get it to work as expected. The only way I was able to get applications to run was from Tools > Run GUI and typing the name of the application launcher (such as firefox).

Clearly, Gershwin is not ready for mass consumption (or even those who are well-versed in Linux). Gershwin is clearly in alpha stage development, so if you go in expecting a fully realized desktop, you’ll be disappointed.

Also: The best Linux distros for beginners in 2025 make switching from MacOS or Windows so easy

Even so, I love the fact that someone is creating a MacOS-like desktop based on GnuStep.

But what about the MacOS look?

Saying that Gershwin is a dead ringer for MacOS might be a bit of an overstatement, but given how early this OS is in development, it’s pretty clear where the developers are going with it. Gershwin will look like a MacOS desktop, with a caveat.

That caveat is caused by GnuStep.

GnuStep is very much old-school, and anything based on it will have an old-school look and feel. That issue means the Gershwin desktop might wind up looking like a MacOS desktop from a few releases ago. Gershwin looks more like OS X than MacOS (if you know the difference between the names, you’ll know what I mean).

Also: 5 more ways to share files on Linux that every pro should know

I admit that I’m biased here, because one of my first Linux desktop environments was based on GnuStep. Any time I see something that even slightly resembles GnuStep (or AfterStep), I get nostalgic. If the developers can craft Gershwin into a usable, modern(ish) take on GnuStep, I think it could be something special.

If you want to try Gerswhin, do what I did and download the GhostBSD ISO and spin up a virtual machine. I wouldn’t suggest installing Gershwin on a PC because you’ll be disappointed with how little you can do with the desktop at the moment.

If you like your desktops to feel both modern and nostalgic, Gershwin might be right up your alley… when it’s finally ready for the masses.
