Grand Theft Auto 5’s Mount Chiliad Mystery Solved After 12 Years

Grand Theft Auto V’s Mount Chiliad mystery has finally been solved, but… I’m not sure you’re going to like the answer we’ve been waiting twelve whole years for.

Ever since Grand Theft Auto V first dropped back in 2013, fans have been obsessed with the mural that lies at the top of Mount Chiliad, the tallest mountain in the game.

Anyone who has played a Rockstar Games title before knows that they love putting cheeky little secrets into their games, like, for instance, the mystery of Bigfoot.

However, unlike the majority of GTA-related secrets, the mystery of Mount Chiliad has somehow gone unsolved for twelve years– even though there’s an entire subreddit dedicated to figuring out its meaning.

The UFO is a reference to the UFO that can be spotted above Mount Chiliad once the player fully completes the game. The jetpack is a reference to flying above the clouds to view said UFO. And the egg, and the line that traces from it to the icon, is a reference to (you’re not gonna believe it) seeing the UFO itself.

Yeah. That, uh… that’s kinda boring.

As Gator Keys notes themselves, Rockstar Games has outright stated before that the mural itself isn’t as interesting as the fanbase had led themselves to believe, so this does, unfortunately, make a lot of sense.

However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the devs decided to follow up on this in a far more interesting way in GTA VI
