One year on from her Olympic gold medal, Darja Varfolomeev secured gold once again at the 2025 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships.
The 18-year-old rhythmic gymnastics sensation defended her all-around world title in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she scored 121.900 in the all-around final on Friday (22 August).
Varfolomeev recorded three scores over 30 in a commanding display in the Brazilian capital, finishing with a lead of 2.6 points over silver medallist Stiliana Nikolova. The bronze medal went to Paris 2024 bronze medallist Sofia Raffaeli with a score of 117.950.
“I’m really happy that I made four clean routines without loss,” said Varfolomeev following her victory (via the FIG). “All the hard work showed on the carpet and for that I’m really happy.
“I was really stressed before the European Championships because I had a lot of school exams. After the Europeans I had my last two exams and then I could focus on these championships.”
