Baker Hughes to Expand Manufacturing, Research and Development in Italy to Address Global Energy Expansion

  • 300 million euro investment will contribute to new jobs in production, engineering in Italy
  • Investment will focus on existing production sites developing solutions for natural gas and new energy markets, including hydrogen

MILAN – Sept. 10, 2025 – Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, announced Wednesday at the Gastech Exhibition & Conference in Milan a plan to invest approximately 300 million euros in its existing facilities and plants in Italy over the next five years. The investment aims to meet the growing demand for Baker Hughes’ technology solutions that enable safe, reliable and sustainable energy production around the world.

With global energy requirements increasing, driven by population growth and demand from sectors such as data centers, Baker Hughes’ investments in Italy are some of the largest in recent years and aim to strengthen existing production infrastructure. The goal is to expand overall manufacturing capacity and further accelerate the development of key technologies, such as turbine compressors for various applications like data centers, LNG and hydrogen, in support of the energy expansion and transition.

The investment plan, which includes new highly specialized jobs in Italy, mainly in production and engineering, will involve nearly all of Baker Hughes’ Italian facilities under the Industrial & Energy Technology (IET) business.

“We are very pleased to announce this important investment in our Italian facilities to ensure our global customers may continue addressing growing energy demand,” said Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli. “With this increased capacity, we will be able to further accelerate the development and delivery of key technologies to help ensure energy is affordable, secure and sustainable for the long term.”

“This investment plan not only strengthens our production capacity and creates highly differentiated jobs but also reaffirms the strategic importance of our facilities and people in delivering the advanced technology solutions the world needs,” said Alessandro Bresciani, senior vice president of Energy Equipment at Baker Hughes.  “We are proud to continue investing and growing here in Italy, contributing to the country’s development and addressing today’s and tomorrow’s global energy challenges.”

The investment plan follows recent company announcements for various awards, including one from Fervo Energy to provide power generation equipment for the world’s largest next-generation geothermal plant in Cape Station, Utah, and others to supply NovaLT™ turbines, developed and manufactured in Italy, to Frontier Infrastructure for data center projects in Wyoming and Texas, and Aramco’s Master Gas Services III project, in Saudi Arabia.

For the manufacturing plants in Florence, Massa, and Avenza, the focus will be to increase production capacity of NovaLT™ turbines, acquiring new machinery and test benches, and integrating robotics and artificial intelligence. The investment will also boost ongoing research activities to support turbine technologies.

Investments in the Bari and Talamona plants aim to upgrade production lines and integrate innovative technologies to increase efficiency and sustainability of industrial activities, as well as support specific research and development activities. In particular, the Apulian pump center of excellence will transform into a multimodal factory to add compressor component production. At the Lombard center, the investment will help diversify plant activities to increase efficiencies.

Investments already underway at the Vibo Valentia plant in Calabria will continue increasing production capacity, improving energy efficiency, and creating a research and development center for advanced technology and digital solutions.

In Italy, Baker Hughes currently has over 6,600 employees across eight sites.
