Perry Naseck and Lancelot Blanchard from the Responsive Environments group, in collaboration with musician Jordan Rudess, have received the 2025 MIDI Innovation Award in the Artistic/Visual Project or Installation category for their project the Jam_Bot.
The system integrates generative AI into live performance, enabling real-time interaction with a musician’s input to extend improvisation. Designed to interpret musical intent, the Jam_Bot generates coherent and responsive output during collaboration.
The MIDI Innovation Awards, founded in 2021 by The MIDI Association, NAMM, and Music Hackspace, recognize advances in Musical Instrument Digital Interfaces(MIDI) 1.0 and 2.0 that expand possibilities for music creation.
