AJ August continues to show fine form at the Tour of Austria, riding to 10th place on the mountainous fourth stage.
The young rider is now fifth on the GC with one stage to go, with two second places under his belt.
Early on in the stage, Salvatore Puccio made it into a 12-man break, gaining a minute and 40 seconds on the peloton before the first ascent of the 23km climb, the Kühtai.
As attacks came in a bid to breakaway up the climb, the front group splintered, with Puccio dropping back to the peloton with 50km to go, while Rui Costa (EF Education – EasyPost) pushed on solo.
With 16km remaining, Costa was caught and a group of three went clear up the brutal Ötztal Sattele climb while a reduced peloton spearheaded by Michael Leonard chased behind.
Attacks continued to come up the brutal ascents, with August battling on to take 10th place, a minute and a half back on winner Isaac Del Toro (UAE Emirates – XRG), with the American sitting fifth on GC going into the final stage.
