Why super-sub duo Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly are the driving force of England’s title defence

“It means the world to me, I’m so grateful,” former England ball girl Agyemang said to ITV Sport after her starring cameo. “Four years ago, I was a kid just throwing a ball to some of these girls and now I’m playing with them. It’s a great opportunity and I’m so happy I am here.”

“She’s an unbelievable player,” Kelly said of Agyemang to ITV Sport after their semi-final triumph, “she’s got the world at her feet, a young player with a bright future and I’m absolutely buzzing for her. But this team shows resilience again and we fight back.”

The duo were as influential in getting England to the semi-finals as they were for winning it. When the defending champions were 2-0 down against Sweden, Kelly assisted two goals within three minutes of coming on, the second of which was converted by Agyemang for the leveller.

Agyemang and Kelly did the trick again in the final four clash; whether they will start in the final is up to Wiegman, but she can undoubtedly count her blessings for the super subs in their influential roles on the road to a second consecutive continental final.

England will contest the EURO 2025 final at St. Jakob-Park in Basel on Sunday (27 July), in either a rematch of the EURO 2022 final against Germany, or a 2023 World Cup final re-run against Spain.
