Confirmed: Galaxy S26 Ultra coming with Snapdragon 8 Elite’s successor

A few moments ago, we got our hands on the first firmware for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which features Android 16-based One UI 8.5, confirming the next version of Samsung‘s software for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. However, that was just the start. As we are exploring the firmware, we are coming across a lot of exciting information, and one of them hints that the brand’s next non-foldable flagship phone may come with Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.

The firmware for the Galaxy S26 Ultra mentions ‘PMK8850,’ as you can see in the image below. Considering that the model number of the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is 8750, we suspect that PMK8850 is the model number for its successor, which could arrive as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. In other words, the firmware confirms that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will use a Qualcomm chipset and this SoC will be the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
