Josep Maria Marti achieved a third win of the 2025 Formula 2 season, holding off a final lap attack from rival Alexander Dunne to take victory in Budapest.
The Campos Racing driver made a fine start from pole but was forced to hold off his team mate Arvid Lindblad’s attempts to overtake in the first half of the race.
However, Dunne, running in third, made a daring move on Lindblad for P2 at Turn 1 to take the position on Lap 19 of 28. The Rodin Motorsport driver then pushed Marti all the way to the line, as the two went side-by-side through the final sector.
But the Red Bull Junior driver did just enough to hold on the lead, crossing the line to give himself a third Sprint Race victory of the season.
Dunne settled for second, as Jak Crawford made a final lap overtake on Lindblad to take the final spot on the podium for DAMS Lucas Oil.
Hitech TGR driver Luke Browning finished fifth, ahead of his fellow Williams Driver Academy member Victor Martins for ART Grand Prix.
Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli wound up in seventh for Invicta Racing, ahead of his MP Motorsport title rival Richard Verschoor in eighth.
Fornaroli is set to start on the front row in Sunday’s Feature Race, but from second on the road with his team mate Roman Stanek lining up on pole.
