Anza Mermon, M.D., has joined the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology as a clinical associate professor.
Dr. Mermon, who joined the department April 1, specializes in multiple sclerosis, neuroimmunology and clinical neurophysiology/electromyography.
She received her medical degree in 2005 from Dow Medical College in Pakistan and completed a residency at the WSU School of Medicine/Detroit Medical Center. She completed a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis/Neuroimmunology with the WSU Department of Neurology, and a second fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit.
Dr. Mermon is director of Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Research in the Department of Neurology. At the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, she serves as interim director of the Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence East and the MS Regional Specialty Program director, and leads the Neurology Research Program and Neurophysiology Laboratory.
Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, she is a member of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society Foundation, the American Academy of Neurology and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Dr. Mermon has received multiple teaching accolades, including the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology and several faculty teaching awards from Wayne State University. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and contributes as an editor and reviewer for several neurology journals.
