RAWALPINDI:
The Health Department and Municipal Corporation have started using herbicides to destroy weeds and grass growing in cemeteries to prevent dengue mosquitoes.
The Municipal Corporation says that it is difficult to completely cut down the three to four feet tall weeds and grass growing in cemeteries.
“By spraying chemical, the weeds and grass will be destroyed from the roots and will not be able to grow again for the next three months,” they said. Workers have been deployed in all cemeteries for spraying.
The spraying has started in all the major cemeteries across the city and will be completed in two weeks. After its application, the weeds and grass start to wither and completely disintegrate in two to three days.
The peak dengue season in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is from October 1 to November 15.
