Pato O’Ward celebrated his 100th race in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with a victory Saturday at Iowa Speedway.
The driver of the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet won in dramatic style, too, besting his rival, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who has won a record six series races at this track, in the closing laps of the Synk 275 powered by Sukup.
O’Ward had a quicker final pit stop and then held off Newgarden in two late restarts. It was the 10th time the two stars have finished first and second in a series race, with Newgarden holding a 6-4 edge.
O’Ward scored his first win of the season and the first for Chevrolet in 2025. His first victory also came at Iowa, and that was his 50th start.
Newgarden led 232 of the 275 laps but was denied his first win of the season. He finished second with teammates Will Power third and Scott McLaughlin fourth after charging from last on the 27-car grid.
