  • Tottenham: Daniel Levy ‘replacement’ at Spurs Vinai Venkatesham is former Arsenal chief

Tottenham: Daniel Levy ‘replacement’ at Spurs Vinai Venkatesham is former Arsenal chief

It is unlikely that Venkatesham will rule Spurs with an iron fist. He is a firm believer in a culture of inclusivity.

He’ll lead by example rather than being ultra vocal, sources say.

“He’s a leader – but an understated one,” said one of his colleagues at the Emirates.

When it comes to making football-related decisions it is very likely he will be guided by the expertise of head coach Thomas Frank and technical director Johan Lange.

At Arsenal, it is noted that he generally let Edu and Arteta shape the football operation in terms of performance.

That may sound a given. But ask managers up and down the country – it isn’t.

He is viewed by those who worked alongside him at the Emirates as an efficient administrator, whose intelligence allows him to analyse and understand information quickly.

That strength allows him to make relevant contributions internally and, on a wider basis, it has allowed Venkatesham to expand his influence.

For example, he was a key member of the European Club Association, though he has now relinquished his position with the organisation.

It is said his amiable persona allows him to deal smoothly with characters who perhaps seem more assertive than his exterior suggests he is.

It will be interesting to hear if Venkatesham adopts an abrupter approach as he seeks to lay down a marker in the post-Levy era.

If first impressions are important, then those at the Emirates will tell you that Venkatesham makes a good one. In that sense, relationship building – internally and externally – is cited as one of Venkatesham’s key strengths.

Levy – despite often facing the wrath of irate supporters who pinned the blame for Tottenham’s flaws squarely on him – was liked behind the scenes at Spurs.

He was good to his staff. For instance, when Spurs would travel on pre-season tours, he would ensure the club’s support staff were provided with the same privileges as the players.

But it was Levy’s relationship with rival clubs that often left a sour taste; the now departed executive chairman’s famously fierce negotiation style left him unpopular in boardrooms across the country.

It will be interesting to see how Venkatesham’s elevation, given his genteel and friendly personality, changes the dynamics between Tottenham and their rivals at boardroom level.

Will his “nice guy” identity be a strength or a weakness in a sport that is cut-throat?

  • Doctor reveals 6 PCOS supplements that actually work and how they benefit hormonal health: Cinnamon, omega 3 and more

Doctor reveals 6 PCOS supplements that actually work and how they benefit hormonal health: Cinnamon, omega 3 and more

PCOS has become increasingly common among women today, often fueled by modern lifestyle factors such as stress, irregular sleep, poor diet and sedentary habits. With symptoms ranging from irregular periods to weight gain and acne, many look to supplements for relief. But do they really work?

According to Dr. Sood spearmint tea and cinnamon work as natural supplements that improve hormonal balance and also help regulate blood sugar.(Pexel)

Dr Kunal Sood, an anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine physician, has revealed six supplements that can support hormonal health for women suffering from PCOS. In an Instagram video from September 5, the doctor emphasised that supplementation is not a miracle cure, but can be used to support hormones, blood sugar, and cycle regularity. He also highlights that these supplements will only deliver desired results when combined with healthy lifestyle changes and advises consulting a doctor before beginning them. Since most people may not need every supplement discussed, he recommends introducing them one at a time.

    Inositol

According to Dr Sood, inositol (especially a blend of Myo and D-Chiro in a 40:1 ratio) enhances the body’s ability to use insulin effectively and supports healthy ovulation. He explains that research shows inositol can aid in regularising periods, lowering androgen levels like testosterone and improve fertility. The doctor also adds that the supplement “works as well as metformin for many women, but usually with fewer side effects.”

    Spearmint tea

According to Dr Sood, research suggests that drinking spearmint tea regularly not only lowers testosterone levels in women with PCOS but also helps with blood sugar balance, as per the doctor. It is also beneficial in improving acne and facial hair, which are common symptoms of PCOS. Dr Sood recommends drinking 2 cups of spearmint tea a day.

    Omega-3 fatty acids

The doctor highlights that omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil “improves cholesterol, lowers triglycerides, and helps reduce testosterone.” He also notes that research indicates women who take omega-3 supplements may experience more regular menstrual cycles along with reduced inflammation.

    Cinnamon

Dr Sood explains, “1–2 grams a day has been shown to make periods more regular and improve how the body handles insulin.” It may also help regulate blood sugar levels and lower LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol, supporting better heart and metabolic health.

    Vitamin D

Low levels of vitamin D are linked to reduced fertility and impaired metabolic health. Dr Sood explains, “Many women with PCOS are low in vitamin D, especially if they also have insulin resistance or are overweight,” highlighting the connection between metabolic health and hormonal issues. Vitamin D supplementation can improve overall hormonal balance.

    Chromium Picolinate

Chromium picolinate is a supplement that optimises insulin function, helping it work effectively and thereby, lowering blood sugar and cholesterol. However, Dr Sood also clarifies that evidence supporting this is limited, but it can work as “extra support.”

  • Gen Zers may be recording you at work to post ‘DIML’ content

Gen Zers may be recording you at work to post ‘DIML’ content

While older generations may spend their down time chatting up coworkers at the water stand, Gen Zers are using spare time at their 9-to-5s propping up their phones and filming videos on TikTok.

In the videos, younger workers are showcasing the grind—not with singing or viral dances, but with the same mundane meetings, keyboard clacking and lunch breaks any other office worker partakes in. And they’re turning these everyday activities into viral videos racking up hundreds of thousands of views.

One of the most popular trends recorded? Eating at their desks.

“What I ate during my 9-5” posted one TikTok user who goes by Meredith Louise. Without any talking, the video takes viewers through some eggs, a sandwich and an apple. Seems like a pretty normal day, but the video amassed 918,000 views.

Similarly, user @jakezach0 posted “Everything I consumed at my 9-5 job.” The video shows him drinking flavored water, coffee, a “Death, Taxes, and Yogurt Bowl”, chewing gum, ground beef and avocado, and more. The video racked up almost 4 million views.

Another user, @Loewhaley, although now older than Gen Z, started posting “day in my life” workplace content when most of her work moved virtual in 2020. Since then, her account now has 4 million followers, and she spends her 9-to-5 doing social media and content, leading to paid partnerships with brands like Canva and Microsoft.

Gen Z, tired of low wages, turns to content

Aside from just sharing parts of their lives on social media for fun, Gen Z is also known as being the side hustle generation, finding ways to supplement income outside of their regular jobs.

A 2024 Glassdoor-Harris poll found that 39% of employees have a side hustle, rising to 57% for Gen Z and 48% of Millennials. And Gen Z is a true side hustle generation where work identity lives outside of traditional employment.

By posting content online, creators could earn money from brand partnerships. The average price for a sponsored TikTok video is $2,700, a survey from Shopify found. Those that are “macro influencers,” or users with 501,000 to 1 million followers, could earn $5,000 to $10,000 per post.

“If they can make a little bit of money on the side while they do it, then more and more power to them, I suppose,” said Daniel Zhao, chief economist of Glassdoor.

Another reason Gen Zers are spending their work days making a glorified show-and-tell of their lunch items throughout the day? Brand reputation.

“Somebody who has developed a following is able to leverage that in order to find those future opportunities,” he added.

Younger workers are also becoming increasingly less engaged. As wages fail to keep up with inflation and the white collar jobs market freezes, Gen Z could pursue passion projects that are more promising than a promotion.

In fact, there’s a term for workers that are hesitating to put effort into climbing the corporate ladder and get that corner office: it’s called “conscious unbossing.”

Instead, Gen Z is becoming more comfortable with the norm and embracing “career minimalism,” a concept Glassdoor describes as prioritizing balance and security over nonstop hustle. Instead, they may go in different directions, such as online content.

“We are seeing rising disengagement from employees because of the state that the job market is in right now,” Zhao said.

Could recording #DIML videos damage your reputation?

Though social media could be an outlet for younger workers to engage in expression, they may want to think twice before pressing record on that “day in my life” video.

Greenwood Law highlighted a case where a TikTok creator was reportedly terminated after posting a “come to work with me” video while on shift at a MAC cosmetics store in LAX. The video included footage of restricted backroom areas and the cash-handling process—prompting some viewers to label it a “massive security breach.”

Some managers may not be thrilled when people start recording at their jobs, since certain environments could contain sensitive information in plain sight.

In the new age of social media, Greenwood explained that employers should update their policies and regularly remind employees of confidentiality obligations, including the risks of social media misuse.

“Most employees are bound by written contracts, workplace policies, or non-disclosure agreements,” the law firm said. “Recording internal processes, client interactions, or colleagues without consent may violate these obligations.”

What to expect during the ‘blood moon’ total lunar eclipse on Sept. 7-8

Look to the skies on Sept. 7-8 to witness Earth’s shadow roll over the lunar disk, giving rise to a deep red “blood moon.” Here’s what to expect during each phase of this week’s total lunar eclipse.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes between the moon and sun, temporarily bathing the entire lunar disk in its shadow. This in turn causes our natural satellite to glow a deep red, as the scattered light from every sunrise and sunset on Earth is bent onto the lunar disk.

Hong Kong to face hurdles in enforcing rules on labelling AI-generated content: experts

Hong Kong could struggle with enforcing regulations on labelling artificial intelligence-generated content on social media platforms, experts have said, after mainland China rolled out a new law this week to combat misinformation, deepfakes and copyright issues.

Experts told the Post that Hong Kong’s market was too small to adopt an independent set of laws to regulate the use of generative AI, but a rising number of deepfake scams and improper use of the technology reflected a growing urgency for tighter regulation.

On Monday, China’s top internet watchdog, the Cyberspace Administration of China, along with three other government departments, rolled out a new law that mandated the labelling of all artificial intelligence-generated content online.

It stated that explicit markings must be clearly visible to users, while implicit identifiers – such as digital watermarks – should be embedded in the metadata.

Major Chinese social media platforms, including Tencent, Douyin, Kuaishou, Bilibili and DeepSeek, have launched new features to abide by the law issued in March.

Some platforms also penalise users who fail to identify AI-generated content through measures such as limiting traffic, removing content, banning accounts and cancelling revenue.
