  • Garmin watches’ exploding prices and popularity go hand-in-hand, for better or worse

Garmin watches’ exploding prices and popularity go hand-in-hand, for better or worse

Garmin watch prices have gotten more expensive than ever, but it doesn’t seem to matter to the people buying them.

I have no idea how many people will buy the $2,000 Garmin Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED; it’s a novelty, first-gen device with noticeable tradeoffs. But Garmin keeps reporting record-setting profits on watches while bumping up prices across its entire lineup. Who’s to say the Fenix 8 Pro won’t find a credulous audience? It’s still cheaper than a Rolex!

In 2025, Garmin fans have grumbled about higher watch costs, the new Garmin Connect Plus subscription, the massive bootloop crash, and especially when Garmin cut off new features for the year-old Fenix 7 Pro to push the Fenix 8. “I’ll never buy a Garmin watch again” has been a pretty common refrain on forums, and rivals like COROS and Polar would happily take their business.

This hasn’t stopped Garmin from climbing into the 5th-best-selling wearable brand in 2025, with a nearly 30% year-over-year growth, closing in on Samsung in 4th. Either the “never again” people weren’t honest with themselves, or new customers happily took their place.

  • Jordanian king rejects any Israeli move to annex West Bank

Jordanian king rejects any Israeli move to annex West Bank

King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday reaffirmed his “absolute refusal” towards any efforts by Israel to annex the occupied West Bank during a visit to the UAE, the royal palace said.

The message came after several Israeli officials suggested that the country could proceed with the annexation of large tracts of the territory in response to moves by Western governments to recognise Palestinian statehood this month.

According to a palace statement, Abdullah reiterated “Jordan’s absolute refusal of any Israeli measures aimed at annexing the West Bank and forcing Palestinians to leave”.

He also rejected any plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza or to separate the two Palestinian territories.

He was joined by Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in expressing opposition to Israeli plans to expand settlements in the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967.

They also rejected “Israeli plans aimed at perpetuating the occupation of Gaza and expanding military control”.

The United Arab Emirates warned this week that annexation would be a “red line”.

The issue was a key point during the US-led negotiations for Abu Dhabi to normalise relations with Israel in the Abraham Accords of 2020.

The Jordanian king has on multiple occasions said that Jordan would never be a “substitute country” for Palestinians, amid suggestions from the United States and Israel that third countries could take in displaced Gazans.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Sunday warned that Western nations recognising a Palestinian state could trigger “unilateral” measures by Israel.

Far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich called this week for the West Bank’s annexation in response.

ZIM vs SA, 3rd T20I: Kamil Mishara stars as Sri Lanka wins Zimbabwe series

An unbeaten 73 from Kamil Mishara led Sri Lanka to an eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday to win the Twenty20 series 2-1.

Put in to bat after losing the toss, Zimbabwe made 191-8 but Sri Lanka cruised to the target with 14 balls to spare.

Mishara and Kusal Perera put on 117 runs in an unbeaten third-wicket stand as Sri Lanka completed a white-ball double, having won the preceding ODI series against Zimbabwe 2-0.

Having scored just 35 runs in four previous T20I innings, 24-year-old Mishara made his mark with a match-winning knock, hitting three sixes and six fours from the 43 balls he faced.

“It is a privilege to win a game for my country, I just feel very good,” said Mishara.

“There was pressure, of course, but the coaching staff just told me to play my normal game. I just wanted to get into my rhythm and then played my normal game.”

AS IT HAPPENED | ZIM vs SL Highlights, 3rd T20I

Mishara and veteran Perera came together with Sri Lanka 76-2 after 7.1 overs and took control as Sri Lanka put a nightmare 80 all out in the second match on Saturday behind it.

Perera scored as briskly as Mishara, with his unbeaten 46 coming off 26 deliveries. His innings included two sixes and four fours.

Wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani top scored for Zimbabwe with 51 off 44 balls before being stumped by Mendis off a googly from leg-spinner Dushan Hemantha.

Hemantha (3-38) also took the wickets of Sean Williams (23) and home captain Sikandar Raza (28).

  • ‘White Lotus’ Composer Wins Emmy for Theme Song Despite Mike White Drama

‘White Lotus’ Composer Wins Emmy for Theme Song Despite Mike White Drama

Now-former The White Lotus composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer won the Emmy Award for his theme song for the HBO series’ third season Saturday, despite the track sparking a disagreement with creator Mike White that resulted in Tapia de Veer’s exit from the show.

Tapia de Veer has now twice won the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music for The White Lotus’ first and third seasons, with an Outstanding Music Composition for a Series win in-between for the series’ second season.

The composer’s win Saturday was surprising, however, given the behind-the-scenes arguments that spilled out into a very public drama between Tapia de Veer and White, who initially butted heads over the third season’s controversial and radically different theme, including the removal of the fan-loved “ooh-loo-loo-loos.”

“People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting,” Tapia de Veer said. “I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ‘ooh-loo-loo-loos,’ because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that — he wasn’t happy about that.” Tapia de Veer eventually released the uncut version, dubbed “Enlightenment,” on his own YouTube channel.

“Mike gives Cristo a lot of creative freedom, especially with the themes,” music supervisor Gabe Hilfer told Rolling Stone after Season Three’s theme premiered. “He’ll say, ‘How do you want to interpret the theme this year? How do you want to do it?’ They go back and forth and they have a conversation about it. It’s a whole process.”

However, this time around, that “conversation” turned into creative differences that ultimately resulted in Tapia de Veer opting to leave the show prior to the inevitable Season Four. However, due to the bad blood, Tapia de Veer didn’t directly inform White of his decision, instead revealing his intentions to the crew and in a New York Times interview that preceded the third season’s finale.

“It’s kind of weird right now because I announced to the team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving,” Tapia de Veer told the Times. “I didn’t tell Mike for various reasons; I wanted to tell him just at the end for the shock and whatever. Except I told the whole editorial team and music editor and producer and all that, but I didn’t think that they were going to tell him. At some point he heard about that.”

In a subsequent interview on the Howard Stern Show, White lashed out at Tapia de Veer. “I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to the New York Times to shit on me and the show three days before the finale,” White said. “It was kind of a bitch move.”

    Trending Stories

“I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decided to do some P.R. campaign about him leaving the show,” he added. “In reading the interviews, I just realized… I just don’t think he respected me. I think he basically wants people to know he’s edgy and dark and I’m… I watch reality TV.”

Despite the initial outcry over the changed theme and the ensuing beef between the parties involved, Emmy voters still deemed the song worthy of an award Saturday. While The White Lotus will return for Season Four in what’s rumored to be France, it remains likely Tapia de Veer has won his last Emmy for the series.

  • Palestinian PM and UK foreign secretary discuss post-war Gaza, UN General Assembly

Palestinian PM and UK foreign secretary discuss post-war Gaza, UN General Assembly

LONDON: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has a “legal duty to act to prevent a genocide” in Gaza, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg told The Guardian.

Thunberg, who is traveling to the Palestinian enclave as part of an international flotilla, was speaking ahead of a visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog to London on Wednesday.

She said the world is “waking up” to the “livestream genocide” in Gaza, adding: “The words we will use to describe people who are standing on the wrong side of history, supporting or committing war crimes, those words do not exist yet, those slurs do not exist yet, but we will be using them towards people like (Starmer).”

She continued: “We have seen civilians all over the world stepping up but there is a huge absence of those whose legal responsibility it is to step up.

“These governments, these people in power, have a legal duty to act to prevent a genocide and to not support an apartheid regime.”

The UK government has not confirmed whether Starmer will meet Herzog. A spokesperson said: “Since day one, this government has been clear that we need to see an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages cruelly detained by Hamas, better protection of civilians, significantly more aid consistently entering Gaza, and a path to long-term peace and stability.

“The only way to achieve lasting peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis alike is through a political solution, and that’s why we are working with partners to develop a framework for peace that addresses governance, security, humanitarian access, and political reform.

“We have condemned the actions of the (Israeli) government, including its expansion of military action in Gaza and the woefully inadequate provision of aid, and will continue to urge them to change course, commit to a ceasefire, lift restrictions on aid and work towards a two-state solution.”

Thunberg is crossing the Mediterranean alongside hundreds of other activists aboard vessels comprising the Global Sumud Flotilla.

It is carrying aid — including food, medical supplies and baby formula — and plans to try to breach Israel’s siege of Gaza.

A previous flotilla of which Thunberg was a member was intercepted by Israel in international waters in June.

The five-time Nobel Peace prize nominee said: “If we would base our logic on international law and common sense, and even the most basic humanitarian values, then there is absolutely no reason for Israel to attack us.

“But again, we have seen that Israel sees themselves as an exemption from international law, and the world to a large extent allows them to act however they want without any major consequences.”

Yasemin Acar, an activist traveling with Thunberg, said: “Many people around the world may say that this is a suicide mission and we are going to the belly of the beast, which is true. We are seeing what they’re doing to Palestinians.

“But the question should be, why should we fear for our life while we are carrying nothing but humanitarian aid to a population that is being starved, a manmade starvation supported by so many governments and states around the world?”

Fellow activist Thiago Avila said it is crucial that the flotilla continues to draw international attention to the suffering of the people of Gaza, more than 60,000 of whom have been killed and many more injured and displaced.

“The reason why we ask people to share the mission (on social media), it’s because this brings us visibility, not because Israel does not want to kill us — because they want to do with us the same thing that they do to Palestinians — but because they cannot afford to pay the political cost of that,” Avila said.

“We right now see that the world is paying attention to this mission because we know the sense of urgency that they are facing in Gaza, but also the world is sick of seeing children being starved to death, sick of seeing hospitals being bombed, shelters being bombed, schools being bombed, homes being bombed.”

Thunberg said: “We know that the world does not stand with war criminals. And we know that every day when we see more footage coming out of Gaza, we see the incredibly brave journalists who are risking their lives to report the atrocities happening. People are waking up.”

She added: “Anyone who has any sense of humanity and common sense can see that there is absolutely, absolutely no justification for any of this, no matter what absurdly fabricated arguments Israel is using.

“But as they are escalating the genocide, we are also escalating the resistance. We are not able to just sit and watch a livestream genocide take place.”

For their Sept. 6 nuptials, Abby, 28, donned a classic white gown while her groom sported a white tuxedo jacket and black pants, as seen in photos obtained by The Daily Mail.

Among those there to witness their big day were Patrick’s parents, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, as well as his brother Joseph Beana, his sister Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt and her husband Chris Pratt.

Beyond his real-life family members, a member of Patrick’s onscreen family also came to usher in his new chapter. Indeed, the 31-year-old’s “White Lotus” costar Jason Isaacs was seen supporting him during the ceremony alongside fellow actor Rob Lowe.

Abby’s mom Laura and dad Greg were also there to witness her special day, per The Daily Mail.

The couple’s intimate ceremony comes nearly two years after they announced their engagement with a series of stunning beach photos in December 2022.

In the pics, Abby showed off her gorgeous two-stone diamond ring while getting a kiss from her fiancé. The duo then embraced in front of a heart-shaped arrangement of red roses before celebrating with a cake decorated with their own faces.

Since then, Patrick has shared an occasional glimpse into their sweet romance, including their joint Fall 2019 Calvin Klein Jeans campaign and a few updates on how wedding planning had been going.

“As I’ve learned, the role is just to make sure that she’s happy, just whatever she wants to do,” Patrick told GQ last September of his involvement in the planning process. “I’m happy to give my opinion on things, and otherwise I’m just there to support her and make it so that she has the best day that she wants. That’s really my job.”

Beyond the wedding, Patrick has rarely passed up the opportunity to shout his love for his longtime girlfriend from the rooftops.

“I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!” he captioned an Instagram post last February in celebration of Abby’s 27th birthday. “Can’t wait to celebrate and order off the kids menu!!”
