Lola Tung recalls near faint moment at Taylor Swift concert

Lola Tung, star of The Summer I Turned Pretty, shared that she nearly fainted when Taylor Swift acknowledged her during a 2023 Eras Tour concert.

In a July 15 appearance on The Tonight Show, Tung recalled watching Swift perform “False God” from her front-row seat.

“We were right by the stage when she played ‘False God,’” Tung said.

“She looked at us, and she kind of waved and was like, ‘I love you guys.’ I nearly passed out. It was great.”

Tung attended the concert with author Jenny Han, whose bestselling book series inspired the Prime Video adaptation.

She described the concert as a magical experience and noted it was her first time seeing Swift live.

Swift’s music plays a key role in the show’s storytelling. Songs such as “False God,” “Back to December (Taylor’s Version),” and “August” are featured in the upcoming third season of the series.

Tung said the music adds a “beautiful and cinematic” layer to the narrative.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is expected to be the final season, continuing the story of Belly Conklin’s summers, relationships, and personal growth.

Researchers found a two-way relationship between some vitamin and mineral deficiencies and chronic pain, which could lead to personalized treatments for people with chronic pain.

University of Arizona Health Sciences researchers hope to use findings on micronutrient levels in people with chronic pain to inform personalized nutritional strategies to help manage chronic pain.

    Top takeaways:

    • A new study from the University of Arizona Health Sciences, published in Pain Practice, explored the intricate link between micronutrient deficiencies and chronic pain.
    • Researchers discovered a reciprocal relationship where lower levels of essential vitamins and minerals, specifically D, B12, folate, and magnesium, were more prevalent in individuals experiencing severe chronic pain, and conversely, those with severe deficiencies were more likely to suffer from severe chronic pain.
    • This study, utilizing data from the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Database, emphasizes the potential for personalized nutritional interventions as a holistic approach to pain management, aiming to improve quality of life and potentially reduce opioid reliance.

Lower levels of certain vitamins and minerals were found to be associated with chronic pain in a recently completed study led by researchers at the University of Arizona Health Sciences and published in Pain Practice.

This is the first study to take a precision medicine approach to chronic pain on a large scale by broadly examining micronutrient levels of people with and without chronic pain and exploring the incidence of chronic pain in people with or without micronutrient deficiencies. The findings could inform personalized nutritional strategies to help manage chronic pain.

“I treat chronic pain patients, and oftentimes we don’t come up with a diagnosis. But just because there isn’t a surgery that will help you doesn’t mean you’re not in pain. It’s just means that our understanding of pain is limited to date,” said senior author Julie Pilitsis, MD, PhD, head of the U of A College of Medicine – Tucson Department of Neurosurgery and member of the Comprehensive Center for Pain & Addiction. “This study is a novel way to approach chronic pain treatment, where you are looking at the patient holistically to see what could be going on systemically that is easily modifiable – changes in diet as opposed to medications or other things.”

The research team focused on five micronutrients commonly associated with chronic pain: vitamins D, B12, and C, folate and magnesium. They examined the micronutrient status of three groups: people without pain, people with mild-to-moderate chronic pain and people with severe chronic pain.

They found that for vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate and magnesium, people with severe deficiencies were more likely to have severe chronic pain. Conversely, lower levels of vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate and magnesium – and a greater incidence of those low levels – were seen in people with severe chronic pain.

“The finding that surprised us the most was that Asian females had higher vitamin B12 levels than expected,” said co-author Deborah Morris, PhD, a research laboratory manager in the Department of Neurosurgery, explaining that B12 deficiencies were seen in other gender, race and ethnicity groups. “Asian females with severe chronic pain had the highest vitamin B12 levels overall. We were expecting it to be lower.”

The results varied for vitamin C, where males with mild-to-moderate and severe chronic pain were more likely to have low and borderline low levels of vitamin C than males without chronic pain. Men with borderline and severe vitamin C deficiency were also more likely to have chronic pain.

Participant data came from the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Database, where the largest enrollment has come from the University of Arizona-Banner Health program.

“The findings that are coming from complex demographic studies such as this one show that we can’t just make assumptions for every patient that walks in the office,” said Pilitsis, who is a member of the BIO5 Institute.

“Our study across various chronic pain conditions in a large, diverse population found that certain vitamins and mineral deficiencies are more frequent in people with chronic pain, and particularly in some in specific racial and ethnic groups,” Morris added. “Our goal is to improve the quality of life for people with chronic pain and reduce opioid usage, and these findings have the potential to do that as part of a holistic approach to pain management.”

A November 2024 data brief from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that nearly 25% of U.S. adults are living with chronic pain, which is associated with decreased quality of life, opioid misuse, increased anxiety and depression, and unmet mental health needs.

Morris and Pilitsis collaborated with researchers at Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Grigore T. Popa in Romania, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium.

  • Samsung Encourages Users to Activate Latest Anti-Theft Features to Help Tackle Phone Theft – Samsung Newsroom India

Samsung Encourages Users to Activate Latest Anti-Theft Features to Help Tackle Phone Theft – Samsung Newsroom India

As incidents of phone theft continue to rise around the world, Samsung is calling on Galaxy users to activate the latest anti-theft features now available on their devices. These updates reflect Samsung’s commitment to delivering smarter, stronger protection – helping users safeguard their data and stay in control, even in high-risk situations.

Samsung’s One UI 7  security update, which includes additional theft protection and anti-robbery features, is now available for Galaxy S25 Series, Galaxy S24 Series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy S23 Series and Galaxy S22 Series.

One major update is Theft Protection – a multi-layered suite of features developed to safeguard personal data, even in high-risk situations such as robbery.

Theft Protection builds on standard Android safeguards, which are effective in typical theft scenarios where the thief doesn’t know the user’s PIN. With One UI 7, Samsung goes further by introducing additional protections that address more advanced or high-risk threat scenarios, including cases where access credentials may have been exposed.

Galaxy users can now enable a range of new security measures, including Identity Check, an opt-in feature designed to offer stronger protection in complex theft scenarios. These features respond automatically and intelligently to suspicious activity, helping ensure that personal data remains secure and under the user’s control in these critical moments.

Existing and updated features in Theft Protection include:

    • Theft Detection Lock: This uses machine learning to detect motions associated with theft such as snatching, and instantly locks the screen to prevent unauthorised access.
    • Offline Device Lock: The screen gets automatically locked if the device is disconnected from the network for an extended period, ensuring protection even when the device is offline.
    • Remote Lock: If the device has already been stolen, the user can lock it remotely using his/her phone number and a quick verification step. Remote Lock also allows users to regain control of their accounts and explore additional recovery options.

New Anti-Robbery features released on One UI 7 include:

    • Identity Check: In unfamiliar locations, the Safe Places feature (accessible via Identity Check) requires biometric authentication for any changes to sensitive security settings, adding an additional layer of protection when a PIN may have been compromised.
    • Security Delay: A key component of Identity Check, it triggers a one-hour waiting period if someone attempts to reset biometric data. This crucial buffer gives users time to lock the stolen phone from a connected device, such as a PC or tablet, before unauthorised access can occur.

These updated theft features are devices with One UI 7,  with future updates OS planned for even more Galaxy smartphones.

Further steps to take if your Samsung Galaxy device is lost or stolen

How to remotely lock your Samsung Galaxy device:

Barclays fined £42m over poor handling of financial crime risk | Barclays

The UK financial watchdog has fined Barclays Bank £42m over its “poor handling” of financial crime risks linked to Stunt & Co, the firm run by socialite James Stunt, and wealth management company WealthTek.

The Financial Conduct Authority said the fines related to separate failings linked to the two businesses.

It fined Barclays Bank £39.3m for “failing to adequately manage money laundering risks” related to providing banking services to Stunt & Co.

Meanwhile, Barclays Bank UK has been fined £3.1m after it failed to check it had enough information to understand the money laundering risk before opening a client money account for the now-collapsed WealthTek.

Therese Chambers, joint executive director of enforcement and market oversight at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), said: “The consequences of poor financial crime controls are very real – they allow criminals to launder the proceeds of their crimes, and they allow fraudsters to defraud consumers.

“Banks need to take responsibility and act promptly, particularly when obvious risks are brought to their attention.

“In the first of these cases, Barclays secured a significant reduction in its fine through its extensive cooperation with our investigation and through making a voluntary payment to affected consumers at our request.”

In March, James Stunt, the former son-in-law of Formula One tycoon Bernie Ecclestone, was cleared at Leeds crown court of any involvement in a £200m money laundering operation. Four other men were convicted.

  • ‘New Haven’ Novels optioned for British TV Adaptation

‘New Haven’ Novels optioned for British TV Adaptation

Hill 5.14, the Black female-led production company founded by Tobi Olujinmi, has optioned J.L. Seegars’ New Haven romance novel series for television adaptation. The deal marks the first literary option for the London-based scripted label since its launch in 2022.

The adaptation of the self-published titles Restore Me and Revive Me (Parts 1, 2, and 3) will be developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and Eleventh Hour Films, as part of Hill 5.14’s ongoing first-look agreement with the two companies. A UK broadcaster is also attached, with further details to be announced.

The New Haven series gained viral traction on TikTok, garnering over 16 million views under related hashtags and becoming a standout in the BookTok community across 2024 and 2025. The novels trace the interwoven romantic lives of several couples over more than a decade, exploring themes of trauma, healing, and emotional recovery within a Black Southern community. For the television adaptation, the action will be relocated from its fictional South Carolina setting to the U.K.. Phoebe Okeowo, who worked on Amazon Prime’s book-to-series adaptation The Power (2023) will adapt the novels for the small screen.

“The moment we read Revive Me and Restore Me, we knew that this was a Hill 5.14 story,” said Olujinmi, noting that Seegars’ stories fit Hill 5.14’s creative mission of positioning itself as a home for diverse and distinctive stories. “Janil, through these beautiful characters, explores healing throughout, powerfully depicting what love looks like after trauma, healthy sex after violation.”

Seegars praised the partnership, noting Olujinmi and Okeowo’s evident enthusiasm for the material.

“From our first meeting, Tobi and Phoebe’s love for my characters and their world has been evident, and I have every confidence that passion will translate to the finished product,” she said in a statement.

In addition to Okeowo, Hill 5.14 has collaborated with such writers as Victoria Asare-Archer (Missing You) and Sex Education contributors Thara Poopla and Bella Heesom and has attracted onscreen talent including Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You), Adelayo Adebayo (The Responder) and Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton), who also fronts the Hill 5.14-produced podcast Discover Me.

Under their deal with Hill 5.14, SPT-owned Eleventh Hour have a first-look option to co-develop and co-produce TV projects on the company’s slate, with SPT acting as the distributor for these projects.

Seegars is represented by Sugar23 and Laura Dail Literary Agency.

Iran’s parliament said the country should not resume nuclear negotiations with the United States until preconditions are met, in a statement reported on Wednesday by Iranian state media, Reuters reports.

    The statement said:

When the U.S. use negotiations as a tool to deceive Iran and cover up a sudden military attack by the Zionist regime (Israel), talks cannot be conducted as before. Preconditions must be set and no new negotiations can take place until they are fully met,

The statement did not define the preconditions, but Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araqchi has previously said there should be guarantees there will be no further attacks against Tehran.

Last week, Araqchi reiterated Tehran’s position that it would not agree to a nuclear deal that prevents it from enriching uranium and would refuse to discuss extra-nuclear topics such as its ballistic missile programme.

US president Donald Trump said on Tuesday he was in
no rush to negotiate with Iran as its nuclear sites were now “obliterated”, but the US, in coordination with three European
countries, has agreed to set the end of August as the deadline for a deal.

French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Tuesday that Paris, London and Berlin would trigger the UN sanctions snapback mechanism, which would reimpose international sanctions on Iran, by the end of August if there is no concrete progress regarding an agreement.

GHF claims 20 people killed in Khan Younis near aid distribution site

At least 20 people were killed in an incident in Gaza’s Khan Younis on Wednesday, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has claimed.

The Israeli-backed logistics group, which uses private US security and logistics companies to get aid supplies into Gaza, claimed that 19 victims were trampled and one was stabbed during what it described as a “chaotic and dangerous surge, driven by agitators in the crowd”.

Palestinian heath officials told Reuters at least 20 people had died of suffocation at the site. One medic said lots of people had been crammed into a small space and had been crushed.

This comes as Israeli strikes on Wednesday killed 22 others, including 11 children, according to hospital officials, the Associated Press (AP) reports.

The GHF, which began distributing food packages in late May after Israel lifted an 11-week blockade on humanitarian supplies, has previously rejected UN criticism, accusing it of spreading misinformation.

The UN has called the GHF’s model “inherently unsafe” and a breach of humanitarian impartiality standards.

The UN rights office said on Tuesday it had recorded at least 875 killings within the past six weeks at aid points in Gaza run by the GHF and convoys run by other relief groups, including the UN.

The majority of those killed were in the vicinity of GHF sites, while the remaining 201 were killed on the routes of other aid convoys.

Malnutrition rates among children in the Gaza Strip have doubled since Israel sharply restricted the entry of food in March, the UN said on Tuesday. New Israeli strikes killed more than 90 Palestinians, including dozens of women and children, according to health officials.

Hunger has been rising among Gaza’s more than 2 million Palestinians since Israel broke a ceasefire in March to resume the war and banned all food and other supplies from entering Gaza, saying it aimed to pressure Hamas to release hostages. It slightly eased the blockade in late May, allowing in a trickle of aid.

Unrwa, the main UN agency caring for Palestinians in Gaza, said it had screened nearly 16,000 children under age 5 at its clinics in June and found 10.2% of them were acutely malnourished. By comparison, in March, 5.5% of the nearly 15,000 children it screened were malnourished.

    • US president Donald Trump will meet with Qatar’s prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Wednesday to discuss negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire deal. Israeli and Hamas negotiators have been taking part in the latest round of ceasefire talks in Doha since 6 July, discussing a US-backed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire that envisages a phased release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawals from parts of Gaza and discussions on ending the conflict.

    • Gaza’s Health Ministry said in a daily report Tuesday afternoon that the bodies of 93 people killed by Israeli strikes had been brought to hospitals in Gaza over the past 24 hours, along with 278 wounded. It did not specify the total number of women and children among the dead.

    • Israel has launched bombing raids against two of its neighbours, hitting government forces in southern Syria and what it said were Hezbollah targets in eastern Lebanon. In Syria, the strikes hit forces loyal to the transitional government that had been sent south to the province of Sweida, which is near Israel. Syrian state media also reported Israeli strikes on Tuesday in the nearby province of Deraa.

    • The EU will start the process of reinstating UN sanctions on Iran from 29 August if Tehran has made no progress by then on containing its nuclear programme, the bloc has announced. Speaking at a meeting of his EU counterparts, the French foreign minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, said: “France and its partners are … justified in reapplying global embargos on arms, banks and nuclear equipment that were lifted 10 years ago. Without a firm, tangible and verifiable commitment from Iran, we will do so by the end of August at the latest.”

    • Arms dealers affiliated with Houthi militants in Yemen are using X and Meta platforms to traffic weapons – some US-made – in apparent violation of the social media firms’ policies, a report has revealed. The report by the Washington DC-based Tech Transparency Project (TTP), which focuses on accountability for big tech, found Houthi-affiliated arms dealers have been openly operating commercial weapon stores for months, and in some cases years, on both platforms.

    • US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said on Tuesday he had asked Israel to “aggressively investigate” the killing of US citizen Sayfollah Musallet who was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, describing it as a “criminal and terrorist act.” Relatives of Musallet are calling for the Trump administration to arrest and prosecute those responsible for his killing. The 20-year-old from Tampa was visiting his family in an area near Ramallah, and died last week trying to protect their farm from invaders, they said at an emotional press conference in Florida on Monday afternoon.

    • Heavy Israeli airstrikes killed 12 people, including five Hezbollah fighters, in eastern Lebanon on Tuesday, a security source in Lebanon said, in what Israel said was a warning to the Iran-backed group against trying to re-establish itself. The Israeli military said the airstrikes targeted training camps used by elite Hezbollah fighters and warehouses it used to store weapons in the Bekaa valley region.

    • Explosive-laden drones hit three oilfields in Iraq’s northern autonomous Kurdistan region early Wednesday, Kurdish forces said, a day after a similar attack shut operations at a US-run field. In the past few weeks, Iraq and particularly the Kurdistan region have seen a spate of unclaimed drone and rocket attacks. Wednesday’s attacks have raised the number of oilfield hit in Kurdistan to five within a week.
