  • Adaptive Fashion Took Center Stage at This Year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Challenge

Adaptive Fashion Took Center Stage at This Year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Challenge

This year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund introduced a powerful new focus: adaptive fashion. The concept was unveiled last night during the Fund’s annual challenge competition, where the ten 2025 finalists were each paired with muses from Tilting the Lens—the accessibility and inclusion consultancy founded by Sinéad Burke. The task? To work directly with their muse to create a look in the spirit of their brand, but with adaptive capabilities, reframing inclusive design not as a specialty category, but as a fundamental element of modern luxury fashion.

“It’s important to understand what adaptive really means,” Burke, who served as guest judge for the challenge, told Vogue. “Historically, adaptive fashion has been positioned specifically for disabled people—but the reality is, everyone benefits from more accessible, inclusive design. With this challenge, we’ve really underlined the idea that lived experience is expertise. We have ten extraordinary designers, each partnered with an extraordinary muse, all with different disabilities, identities, and careers. What we hope is that this represents a pendulum shift: that luxury fashion begins to truly partner with disabled people to create better fashion for everyone.”

Tommy Hilfiger—both sponsor and guest judge—helped launch the initiative. A pioneer in adaptive design, Hilfiger’s brand was among the first major labels to invest seriously in this space, launching its first adaptive collection in 2016. “It’s very exciting to have a challenge that’s this inclusive and barrier-breaking,” he said. “Nobody ever thinks about the importance of adaptive fashion. We’ve been working in this space for years, but many designers haven’t yet engaged with it. I’m excited to see the energy in the room.”

This year’s challenge will unfold over the coming weeks, as each designer completes two fittings with their muse in New York City before presenting their final look in a Vogue photo shoot. Throughout the process, Burke’s consultancy Tilting the Lens will serve as advisor, helping designers navigate the nuances of adaptive design while celebrating the individuality of their muses.

That process began last night atop Nine Orchard’s rooftop greenhouse, where the ten designer-muse duos met for the first time. Among the finalists: Ashlynn Park of Ashlyn, paired with Bri Scalesse; Julian Louie of Aubero, paired with Jerron Herman; Bach Mai, paired with Daphne Frias; Bernard James, paired with Maya Moore; Ashley Moubayed of Don’t Let Disco, paired with Lachi; Gabe Gordon and Timothy Gibbons of Gabe Gordon, paired with Finnegan Shannon; Stephanie Suberville of Heirlome, paired with Caity Briare; Jamie Okuma, paired with Marsha Elle; Meruert Tolegen, paired with Andrea Dalzell; and Peter Do, paired with Jezz Chung. Together, designers and muses mingled, shared personal stories, and began mapping their approach to inclusive design.

What Time Does ‘And Just Like That’ Air? Details For Season 3’s New Episode 8

As I watched And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 7, I couldn’t help but wonder, is Carrie going to cheat on Aiden? We have no idea, but Episode 8 might give us some answers. Read on to find out when to tune in for the new episode.

To recap, And Just Like That… is a sequel series to the late 90’s classic Sex and the City in which Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis) navigate all the relationship and family drama life can offer to exceptionally fashionable middle-aged women. Episode 7 of Season 3 titled “They Wanna Have Fun” delivered quite a few shocks, with Patti Lupone’s cameo as Giuseppe’s (Sebastiano Pigazzi) judgemental Italian mother being the wildest one.

Fans also witnessed Harry’s (Evan Handler) heartbreaking cancer diagnosis confession to Charlotte’s friends, as well as excessive flirting between Carrie and her neighbor Duncan (Jonathan Cake) which Carrie tries to gaslight Miranda into believing isn’t happening. Come on Carrie, can’t you be satisfied with just one chaotic situationship with Aiden (John Corbett)? Here’s hoping Carrie gets her act together in Episode 8, which premieres…when? Here’s what we know.

  • Study reveals how aging alters liver function and structure

Study reveals how aging alters liver function and structure

The aging liver undergoes dramatic changes in its functional organization and other key attributes, which may underpin its increasing susceptibility to disease, according to a study led by investigators at Weill Cornell Medicine. The findings suggest the possibility of future therapies that would block or reduce such changes to treat or prevent age-related chronic liver diseases—effectively making the liver more youthful and resilient.

In the study, published on July 4 in Hepatology, the researchers compared gene activity and other features of the cells in aged versus young mouse livers. Among the major aging-related changes they observed were enlargements of many liver cells, inflammation and blurring of the functional zones of normal livers. The researchers observed similar changes when comparing older and younger human livers.

Do these changes underlie the aging liver’s reduced ability to metabolize drugs, neutralize toxins and resist liver disease?. That’s the big question we now intend to investigate.”

Dr. Robert Schwartz, study senior author, associate professor of medicine and the Irma Hirschl Trust Research Award Scholar at Weill Cornell Medicine and a hepatologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center

The liver’s essential functions include filtering the blood and storing metabolites and nutrients. It does have the ability to regenerate itself, which has encouraged the view that it is less affected by aging than other organs. But chronic liver diseases, especially metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), are more likely to develop as people age, and in general are extremely common—one recent study suggested that the condition affects 30 to 40 percent of the U.S. population. MASLD also can develop into severe, inflammatory forms leading to cirrhosis and cancer. Yet the molecular underpinnings of such age-related liver conditions are poorly understood.

In the study, Dr. Schwartz’s team used a variety of tools to take a fresh look at the differences between aged and young livers. While the livers of two-year- and two-month-aged mice were similar in weight and overall appearance, comparison under a microscope showed that the cells in aged livers were much larger on average, with marked deposits of lipofuscin, a substance known to accumulate in, and potentially damage, aging cells.

Some of the most striking findings came from single-nucleus RNA sequencing, a relatively new method that allows scientists to profile gene activity in essentially all cell types in a tissue sample. This study is thought to be the first that applies the technique to understand liver aging. The resulting dataset on gene activity in tens of thousands of liver cells revealed that aging has a strong impact on the usual functional organization or “zonation” of hepatocytes, the main type of liver cell.

“In young, healthy livers, hepatocytes perform distinct functions in distinct zones in the liver with different proximities to blood supply, but in aged livers this zonation is lost,” said study first author Dr. Saloni Sinha, a postdoctoral research associate in the Schwartz laboratory. “We suspect this impairs the liver’s functions and its ability to respond to stress or injury.”

The RNA sequencing showed that there are significant aging-related differences in the activity levels of hundreds of genes in dozens of distinct liver cell types. Analyses of these differences pointed, among other things, to higher levels of inflammation and the non-dividing, pro-inflammatory cell state known as senescence. Scientists in recent years have come to see the accumulation of senescent cells and associated inflammation—”inflammaging”—as a major driver of tissue aging and disease susceptibility.

The researchers confirmed the likely relevance of their mouse findings to human biology with similar findings in biopsies of livers from younger and older people.

The data generated in the study represent a significant new resource for scientists who study liver biology. Dr. Schwartz, who is also a member of the Weill Cornell Medicine Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center, and Dr. Sinha hope it will lead them to new strategies for keeping aged livers younger and healthier.

  • Punjab Police arrest Bushra Bibi’s son for shooting domestic servant at Pakpattan home – Pakistan

Punjab Police arrest Bushra Bibi’s son for shooting domestic servant at Pakpattan home – Pakistan

The Punjab Police on Thursday arrested former first lady Bushra Bibi’s son, Musa Maneka, for allegedly attempting to kill his domestic servant by shooting him at his Pakpattan residence.

The first information report (FIR) of the incident was registered at the complaint of the servant’s father at Saddar Police Station under Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The complainant said that he and his son worked at Maneka’s residence, adding that the incident occurred at 11am when his son placed two bedsheets outside the bedroom, prompting Maneka to ask his son why he touched the bedsheets.

The son responded by saying, “I kept the sheets outside with care,” according to the FIR. “The suspect became enraged and shot my son using a pistol,” it added.

“My son was hit in front of his left knee, and the bullet passed through his leg, causing him to fall,” the complainant said. He also stated that two other people witnessed the incident, who reached there after hearing the gunshots.

District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal Chaddar told Dawn.com that police rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

“I entered the premises and confronted Maneka, taking him into custody,” he said, adding that the suspect was currently held at the Saddar Police station and that the police had recovered the pistol which was used in the incident.

Rescue 1122 immediately took the injured servant to District Headquarters Hospital Pakpattan for medical treatment, he said.

DPO Chaddar said that “no one is above the law”, adding that the suspect “would not be spared”.

Today is not the suspect’s only run-in with the law. He and his father Khawar Maneka and elder brother were indicted in corruption cases in a reference filed by the Okara deputy commissioner on Aug 23, 2023.

Police also registered an FIR against him on charges of possession of liquor in February 2022.

  • Google hides secret message in name list of 3,295 AI researchers

Google hides secret message in name list of 3,295 AI researchers

How many Google AI researchers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A recent research paper detailing the technical core behind Google’s Gemini AI assistant may suggest an answer, listing an eye-popping 3,295 authors.

It’s a number that recently caught the attention of machine learning researcher David Ha (known as “hardmaru” online), who revealed on X that the first 43 names also contain a hidden message. “There’s a secret code if you observe the authors’ first initials in the order of authorship,” Ha wrote, relaying the Easter egg: “GEMINI MODELS CAN THINK AND GET BACK TO YOU IN A FLASH.”

The paper, titled “Gemini 2.5: Pushing the Frontier with Advanced Reasoning, Multimodality, Long Context, and Next Generation Agentic Capabilities,” describes Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash AI models, which were released in March. These large language models, which power Google’s chatbot AI assistant, feature simulated reasoning capabilities that produce a string of “thinking out loud” text before generating responses in an attempt to help them solve more difficult problems. That explains “think” and “flash” in the hidden text.

But clever Easter egg aside, the sheer scale of authorship tells its own story about modern AI development. Just seeing the massive list made us wonder: Is 3,295 authors unprecedented? Why so many?

Not the biggest, but still massive

While 3,295 authors represents an enormous collaborative effort within Google, it doesn’t break the record for academic authorship. According to Guinness World Records, a 2021 paper by the COVIDSurg and GlobalSurg Collaboratives holds that distinction, with 15,025 authors from 116 countries. In physics, a 2015 paper from CERN’s Large Hadron Collider teams featured 5,154 authors across 33 pages—with 24 pages devoted solely to listing names and institutions.

The CERN paper provided the most precise estimate of the Higgs boson mass at the time and represented a collaboration between two massive detector teams. Similarly large author lists have become common in particle physics, where experiments require contributions from thousands of scientists, engineers, and support staff.

In the case of Gemini development at Google DeepMind, building a family of AI models requires experience spanning multiple disciplines. It involves not just machine learning researchers but also software engineers building infrastructure, hardware specialists optimizing for specific processors, ethicists evaluating safety implications, product managers coordinating efforts, and domain experts ensuring the models work across different applications and languages.

  • Perseid meteor shower 2025 brings magic to summer nights

Perseid meteor shower 2025 brings magic to summer nights

Perseid meteor shower 2025 to illuminate summer nights

The Perseid meteor shower is widely considered as the best shower each year. The celestial event is a delight for the stargazers when the sky will be adorned and lightened up with a steady stream of shooting stars visible from the Northern Hemisphere.

The 2025 annual event will begin on July 17 and last through August 23, 2025, according to the American Meteor Society.

    What are Perseids?

The Perseids are particles emitted from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The comet was first identified by Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle in 1862. As the comet travels through the solar system, it leaves behind a trail of dust and rocky debris. This trail is often called the “Perseid Cloud.”

    Meaning of Perseids

The name “Perseids” comes from the fact that meteors appear to radiate from a point in the sky within the constellation Perseus.

Predicted peak time of meteor shower

The shooting star phenomenon will reach its peak on warm 12 or 13 August nights, depending on the year. Normal rates from rural locations range from 50-75 shower members per hour at maximum.

The best place to see meteor shower

Perseids shower exhibiting whizzing meteors and blazing fireballs, can be best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere.

The suitable time to watch the shower

Like other meteor showers, the Perseids are best observed during the dark hours between midnight and dawn. According NASA, under the right condition, it is also possible to view meteors as early as 10 p.m. ET.

The gazers who would step out at the right time can witness 100 Perseid meteors per hour streaking across the night sky, leaving behind the color and light.

    Potential setback during shower

Unfortunately, the shower is expected to meet with a potential setback. In 2025, the waning gibbous moon will severely compromise the shower at the hours of maximum activity. As a result, the celestial activity will be reduced by 75%, making the meteors less visible.

No telescope is needed for this spectacular sight. Just step outside at the peak time and enjoy the meteorite shower.

  • Festival Will Open as Scheduled

    Festival Will Open as Scheduled

Tomorrowland 2025 will open as scheduled on Friday (July 18) following a devastating July 16 fire that destroyed the festival’s mainstage.

In a statement made on Thursday (July 17), organizers wrote that “hundreds of people are working tirelessly at the Mainstage area to ensure we can open the gates tomorrow. It’s a race against time, but we’re doing this together with the best and most amazing people in the world.”

Organizers have outlined two potential scenarios for how the weekend will unfold that are based on the progress crews can make before gates open. The first, they write, is that “if the Mainstage area can be secured and a new setup completed, the festival grounds will open as planned for all visitors and all ticket types.”

The second is that if the event is unable to open at full capacity, its camping area — called DreamVille — and the festival grounds “will function as two separate areas on Friday to ensure the safety of all guests.”

If this is the case, DreamVille will host the Mainstage artists scheduled to play on Friday (July 18), although DreamVille visitors will not be able to access the festival grounds. Meanwhile, the festival grounds (without the mainstage) will be open to all other visitors, a group that includes those with a Friday Day Pass, who’ve bought Global Journey Hotel Packages and attendees with a “Full Madness” pass.

If this second scenario is what comes to pass, it essentially means ticketholders will be divided into two demographics, with DreamVille campers limited to the makeshift stage at the DreamVille area and other ticketholders able to enter festival grounds to access all of the other Tomorrowland stages, of which there are approximately 15. Friday mainstage performers include Axwell, Martin Garrix, Alok, Artbat & Kolsch, Meduza and more.

This second measure is presumably being outlined given that the mainstage area is able to hold upwards of 70,000 people. If this area is closed, a full capacity crowd would potentially overwhelm other areas of the site. Organizers advise that by Saturday (July 19), they expect the full festival grounds to be open to all visitors and all ticket types from 12 p.m. local time onwards.

This development follows a fire that destroyed the mainstage on July 16. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet know. Tomorrowland is the world’s biggest dance music festival, hosting approximately 400,000 people across its two weekends, July 18-20 and July 25-27.

    Complete Tomorrowland Statement:

    Dear People of Tomorrow,

We are still devastated, but the support we’re receiving from all over the world and the energy and joy of the visitors at DreamVille (the campsite) today are truly heartwarming.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people are working tirelessly at the Mainstage area to ensure we can open the gates tomorrow. It’s a race against time, but we’re doing this together with the best and most amazing people in the world.

What we can confirm is that we will be able to welcome everyone tomorrow. Currently, there are two possible scenarios for Friday, July 18. We expect to have more clarity by tomorrow morning.

SCENARIO 1: If the Mainstage area can be secured and a new setup completed, the festival grounds will open as planned for all visitors and all ticket types.

SCENARIO 2: If we are unable to open at full visitor capacity, DreamVille and the festival grounds will function as two separate areas on Friday to ensure the safety of all guests.

    In this case:
    • The Gathering Stage at DreamVille will host the Mainstage artists originally scheduled for Friday, July 18.
    • DreamVille visitors will not be able to access the festival grounds.
    • The festival grounds (without the Mainstage) will be open to all other visitors (Friday Day Pass, Global Journey Hotel Packages, and Full Madness Pass holders).

In both scenarios, doors will open at 14:00 (and not at 12:00).

Even in these challenging times, we will be able to offer a program for all visitors and ticket types.

Starting Saturday, we expect the full festival grounds to be open to all visitors and all ticket types from 12:00 onwards. We will unite.
