Instagram now requires users to have at least 1,000 followers to go live

Instagram users now need a public account with a minimum of 1,000 followers to go live on the platform, the social network confirmed to TechCrunch. Until now, Instagram has allowed anyone to go live, regardless of their follower count or whether their account is public or private.

The move will be a blow to smaller creators on the platform who fall under the 1,000 followers requirement, as well as regular users who just liked to go live with their friends for fun.

Users who don’t have public accounts and have fewer than 1,000 followers will see a new notice when they try to go live, stating that their account is no longer eligible for Live. The notice continues, “We changed requirements to use this feature. Only public accounts with 1,000 followers or more will be able to create live videos.”

Users have taken to social media to express their displeasure with the change, with some asking for it to be reversed.

The change brings Instagram’s live feature more in line with TikTok’s, as the short-form video app also requires users to have at least 1,000 followers to go live. In comparison, YouTube requires channels to have a minimum of 50 subscribers to go live.

While the company didn’t provide a specific reason for the change, it noted that the move is designed to improve the overall Live consumption experience.

The change could limit lower-quality streams by only allowing users with an established audience to go live.

It could also be a way for Meta to save money. Since hosting livestreams is expensive, Meta may have decided that it doesn’t want to support broadcasts with only a handful of viewers.

German foreign minister tones down Palestinian recognition talk on West Bank trip

BERLIN (Reuters) – German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul sought to tone down previous comments about his country’s position on Palestinian statehood during a trip to the West Bank on Friday, saying Germany had no immediate plans to recognise a Palestinian state.

Wadephul’s comment followed sharp criticism from Israeli officials over his earlier suggestion, before he left for the trip, that Germany could respond to any unilateral Israeli actions with recognition of a Palestinian state.

Far-right Israeli government minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had written on X: “80 years after the Holocaust, and Germany returns to supporting Nazism”.

After meeting Israel’s foreign minister, prime minister and president on Thursday evening, Wadephul explained on Friday that Germany did not plan to recognise a Palestinian state immediately, “as that is one of the final steps to be taken” as part of a two-state solution.

Wadephul’s attempt to clarify his remarks highlights Germany’s longstanding difficulty in taking a clear position on the issue, caught between growing international pressure to hold Israel accountable for its actions and Germany’s own post-Holocaust commitment to ensuring Israel’s security.

He called on Israel to ensure safe access for United Nations agencies to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, saying the current restrictions were worsening the crisis.

“The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza must end now,” Wadephul said, stressing that aid distribution through the UN had long worked effectively and needed to resume without obstacles.

He said Germany would provide an additional 5 million euros ($5.7 million) to the UN World Food Programme to support bakeries and soup kitchens and fund a field hospital in Gaza City.

Asked about Israeli concerns that aid could be diverted by Hamas, Wadephul acknowledged that misuse could not be fully ruled out but said it was no reason to block relief efforts.

“The best way to prevent Hamas from misusing supplies is to deliver more aid and ensure full coverage for the population,” he said.

He also condemned rising violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, adding that Berlin would continue pushing at the European level for sanctions on violent settlers.

Bunyan Al-Marsus Operation Enhanced Pakistan Passport Value: Governor

Governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider said on Friday that Pakistan’s victory in Operation Bunyan Al-Marsus enhanced value of the Pakistani passport across the globe significantly

BOUREWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Aug, 2025) Governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider said on Friday that Pakistan’s victory in Operation Bunyan Al-Marsus enhanced value of the Pakistani passport across the globe significantly.

During media talk at residence of former MPA, Shehryar Khan Khakwani at Shafqat Palace, he said the recent Pakistan-India war proved to be blessing in disguise, and adding that it had united all political parties as well as general public with the armed forces and India had to lick the dust.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued to face humiliation after the crushing defeat, while the US president had praised Pakistan 27 times, the governor added.

Regarding the May 9 incidents, the governor said there is no second opinion as it was an act of betrayal against the nation. Any political worker or leader, who attacked national institutions and installations, must be punished. He also stated that some PTI leaders were clearly involved in the May 9 violence.

Salim Haider said PPP’s Central Executive Committee had not yet decided to accept ministerial positions.

He added that the party was supporting the government out of necessity, not enthusiasm. Commenting on the plight of farmers, the governor warned that if the Punjab government did not address farmers’ issues, they might stop cultivating crops. He recalled that the PPP always provided relief to farmers, labourers, and the government employees. However, he expressed disappointment that Punjab’s farmers and labourers had repeatedly ignored the party despite receiving benefits.

He also stressed that Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan was bound by the Supreme Court’s order to convene a syndicate meeting. He assured future of hundreds of law students would not be jeopardised and that the syndicate committee will make decisions on merit. He called on PPP workers to prepare for bringing the party back to power in Punjab. During his visit, the governor also met lawyers, PPP workers, and members of civil society.

Alexander Isak: How could the Newcastle striker’s future unfold following bid by Liverpool?

The noises from Newcastle themselves do not suggest Isak has no future at the club – should a move elsewhere fail to materialise.

The expectation is the 25-year-old will return to training with his team-mates from next week.

“He is still our player,” said manager Eddie Howe.

“He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him.

“I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.

“My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year.”

That’s the club’s stance – but the supporters may feel a little differently.

Isak has rightly been idolised for his goals, but his desire to leave is a frustration for some.

“We’ve just had an amazing season, in which we won our first trophy in 70 years, and he helped us win that,” said Lee Johnson from the Newcastle podcast True Faith.

“The hope was that this summer would have been a transformation for ourselves but it seems to be turning into a bit of a nightmare now.”

Former Newcastle defender Steve Howey added: “He’s at a club who absolutely adore him. He’ll be on unbelievable money, they’ve won something and they’re in the Champions League – it would have to be some club to want to leave for.

“He has been looked after very well by Newcastle, has three years left on his contract and we’re open to giving him a pay rise, but for him to have his head turned is just disappointing at this stage.

“You have to agree with the fans’ frustration because you have the nucleus of a very good team.”

  • Saudi Riyal to Pakistani Rupee Rate Today- August 1, 2025

Saudi Riyal to Pakistani Rupee Rate Today- August 1, 2025

KARACHI, August 1, 2025: The Saudi Riyal (SAR) dipped to Rs75.51 against the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) in today’s open market, a slight decline from Rs75.52 on July 31 and notably lower than Rs76.03 on July 28, currency traders reported.

The selling rate adjusted to Rs76.08. This minor downturn, influenced by market adjustments and sustained remittance inflows, underscores the Saudi Riyal’s pivotal role in Pakistan’s financial stability.

SAR to PKR- Daily Updates Page

Economic Impacts of the Riyal’s Decline

The Saudi Riyal’s drop to Rs75.51 carries both immediate and broader effects. For Pakistani households, the Riyal’s still-robust value supports remittance purchasing power, with 1,000 Saudi Riyals converting to Rs75,510, down from Rs75,520 yesterday, slightly reducing funds for essentials like education, healthcare, and daily expenses amid rising costs. Businesses importing goods, such as oil and petrochemicals from Saudi Arabia, benefit from the Riyal’s dollar-pegged reliability, and this slight decline may ease import costs, offering minor relief to Pakistan’s trade balance. On a macroeconomic level, the Riyal’s performance continues to bolster Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, which surpassed $11 billion in October 2024, aiding inflation control and debt management. A weaker Rupee can enhance export competitiveness, and this adjustment supports Pakistan’s economic resilience.

Why the Saudi Riyal Is Vital for Pakistan

The Saudi Riyal remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economy, driven by strong ties with Saudi Arabia, where millions of Pakistani workers contribute to sectors like construction, healthcare, and services. In May 2025, Saudi Arabia accounted for $913.3 million of Pakistan’s remittance inflows, the largest share, according to the State Bank of Pakistan. From July 2024 to May 2025, total remittances reached $34.9 billion, a 28.8% increase from the previous fiscal year. The Riyal’s dependable value continues to fuel economic activity and support families across Pakistan.

Overview of the Saudi Riyal and Pakistani Rupee

The Saudi Riyal, divided into 100 halala, is Saudi Arabia’s currency, managed by the Saudi Central Bank and tied to the US dollar for consistency. This reliability makes it a trusted medium for remittances and trade, particularly for Pakistanis in the Kingdom. The Pakistani Rupee, symbolized by ₨, has been Pakistan’s currency since 1948, overseen by the State Bank of Pakistan under a managed floating exchange rate system. Its value is shaped by inflation, trade flows, and remittance inflows, with the Riyal-PKR rate reflecting market dynamics.

Outlook for the Riyal-PKR Exchange Rate

The Saudi Riyal’s slight decline to Rs75.51 signals ongoing market adjustments, supported by remittances and trade with Saudi Arabia. Traders and policymakers should stay vigilant, as even small shifts can impact remittances, import costs, and economic strategies. For millions of Pakistanis, the Riyal’s steady value remains a financial lifeline, reinforcing its role in sustaining Pakistan’s economic stability.
