Prince Harry faces new pressure over US visa application

    Prince Harry immigration drama deepens

Prince Harry is reportedly facing pressure on his US visa application.

As reported by multiple outlets including Express.co, court documents have revealed that the Department of State is holding more than 1000 documents relating to the case.

They noted that 217 documents are held by the Office of the Secretary of State, while 517 “potentially responsive records” were found within the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

On the other hand, 271 papers are held by the Office of Legal Advisor and two by the Office of the Deputy Secretary of State.

Now, the federal judge in Washington is responsible to review and decide if any documents will be released publicly.

Samuel Dewey, the attorney of the Heritage Foundation said, “The number of papers on Harry shows they are monitoring him pretty closely.”

“I think we’re going to see documents from Harry talking about the case, but other material may be withheld. Then it will be up to politicians whether that decision is overruled,” he added on the Prince Harry case.

Wayne Rooney: Arsenal’s Max Dowman is the name on everybody’s lips

The challenge for Dowman is to remain grounded as his profile grows and the excitement over his potential builds.

“For Max and his family and friends, I’m sure they’re all living in a dream and a fairy tale and it probably hasn’t hit home yet,” Rooney said. “But you can see his future is so bright, he is going to have a massive future.

“Everyone you speak to in football, the same name keeps coming back: Max Dowman.

“It’s difficult for anyone. I think the first thing you’ve got to do is just stay around your family and close friends.

“Listen to them because there are going to be people out there who are trying to be your friend or trying to get in touch with you – some for good reasons, some for not so good reasons.

“You just have to make sure the people who are closer to you, you stay around them and listen to their advice rather than outsiders.”

As well as stepping up on the pitch, Rooney says there are also adjustments off it for a young player breaking into the first team.

“It’s surreal. It’s so strange that one minute you’re in the youth team and the next you’re in the first-team dressing room with some of your heroes,” Rooney said.

“For me, it was some of my heroes growing up, then we’re training, we’re playing, we’re becoming friends.

“I was around at Duncan Ferguson’s house. He lived on the same road as me, and I’m just chilling with him and Alan Stubbs. And you’re like, ‘what is going on here?’.

“It’s something you really need to get used to quickly because it can be overwhelming.

“Max Dowman looks like a very level-headed lad from everything I’ve seen and you hope he manages to deal with it and understands what’s coming his way very soon.”

Rooney’s main words of advice for Dowman come from the heart.

“Enjoy it. I’m sure we’re going to see so much of him, so much of his talent and goals and assists, whatever,” he said.

“Alan Stubbs always said to me years ago, ‘make sure you enjoy it because it goes very quickly’.

“When you’re young, you don’t think that or you sometimes forget that, but enjoy it and make the most of it.”

Singapore’s inflation came in lower than expected in July, coming in at 0.6%, as the city-state braces for a growth slowdown later this year.

This was lower than the 0.7% expected by economists polled by Reuters, and was also below the 0.8% seen in June.

Core inflation — which strips out prices of private transport and accommodation — dipped to 0.5%, lower than the 0.6% forecast by the Reuters poll.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore, in its annual report last month, projected that core inflation would average between 0.5% and 1.5% for 2025, down from 2.8% in 2024.

“In the near term, imported goods inflation facing Singapore should be modest against the backdrop of slowing global demand.”

The central bank has already eased Singapore’s monetary policy twice this year, in January and April, to cope with weaker growth. It warned that the “downshift” in the global trade environment and rising trade tensions have put the Singapore economy on a path of weaker growth and slower inflation.

On July 30, the MAS forecasted that Singapore’s economic growth would moderate in the second half of the year, despite strong GDP in the first six months.

Trade-dependent Singapore has also faced a baseline 10% “reciprocal” tariff on its exports to the U.S. from the Trump administration, despite running a trade deficit with the U.S. and having a free trade agreement since 2004.

Singapore did not receive a “tariff letter” and has yet to come to a deal with the Trump administration.

  • Battery startup Lyten yet to convince carmakers over Northvolt revival

Battery startup Lyten yet to convince carmakers over Northvolt revival

By Marie Mannes, Alessandro Parodi and Gilles Guillaume

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -Silicon Valley startup Lyten will need to convince carmakers it can succeed where bankrupt Swedish EV battery maker Northvolt failed – creating a European champion to reduce the region’s reliance on China.

Lyten, which develops lithium-sulfur batteries, unexpectedly announced on August 7 it was buying Northvolt’s assets, offering a lifeline to future European battery production for electric vehicles.

But customers and investors burned by the Northvolt experience remain wary of committing without seeing a proven product that can be delivered at scale, interviews with over a dozen battery industry experts, analysts and car company sources revealed.

As well as taking on Northvolt’s production of lithium-ion batteries, Lyten plans to develop its own lithium-sulfur batteries for EVs, but will need substantial funds and lacks the Swedish company’s erstwhile $50 billion order book.

Lithium-sulfur cells are one of several next-gen battery chemistries, promising a lighter, lower-cost alternative and lower dependence on critical minerals from China, but are still in their infancy.

Lyten currently produces lithium-sulfur cells at a pilot plant in Silicon Valley.

Jeep-owner Stellantis has – with a 2% stake – been in partnership with Lyten since 2023 to explore applications of Lyten’s lithium-sulfur technology, including for battery cells, lightweight composites and on-board sensors.

A Stellantis spokesperson said any supply deals would depend on technical validation, industrial scale-up, local production capacity and commercial terms.

Northvolt, despite attracting backers including Goldman Sachs, collapsed with $8 billion in debt in March after losing orders and key investor support, and missing production targets.

Carmakers scaling down their electrification plans have also hit EV battery demand.

Northvolt’s flagship factory in Skelleftea, Sweden, however, was starting to turn around in the weeks before closure, ramping up production to 30,000 lithium-ion cells a week.

Lyten CEO Dan Cook told Reuters that he hopes Northvolt’s previous customers – which included Volkswagen brands – will return if the company proves itself by delivering consistently to a single, undetermined, customer at low volumes with good quality.

Former Northvolt-backer Scania said it was too early to discuss ordering cells from Lyten. Volvo Cars, which had partnered with Northvolt via its nascent battery unit Novo Energy before cutting ties, declined to comment on whether it would place orders.

  • Drugs for tropical diseases go to waste after US aid cuts | News | Eco-Business

Drugs for tropical diseases go to waste after US aid cuts | News | Eco-Business

Millions of drugs used to treat debilitating and disfiguring tropical diseases risk going to waste after US aid cuts stalled treatment campaigns, leaving vital medication to expire in warehouses.

Experts fear the funding crisis could sabotage hard-won progress in the global fight against conditions such as river blindness and intestinal worms that blight the world’s poorest.

“This has been a major blow,” said Albis Gabrielli, a disease expert at the World Health Organization (WHO).

“It could lead to diseases resurging and derail progress in countries close to eliminating them.”

Since 2006, the United States has invested more than US$1.4 billion in tackling what are known as neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), helping 14 countries end at least one disease.

But the programme was axed this year after President Donald Trump slashed foreign aid.

In Africa alone, about 1.6 million medicines – mainly tablets – have already expired, 8 million more are set to by year-end, and another 90 million by May 2026, according to WHO figures provided to Context.

The WHO is working with African countries and health partners to save drugs close to expiry, piggy-backing deliveries onto other community health services such as vaccination drives.

Diseases don’t understand borders. The cuts could threaten the long-term success of the wins we’ve had, if we take our eye off the ball.

    Solomon Zewdu, CEO, END Fund

There are 21 NTDs which affect more than a billion people in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

They afflict the poorest communities, and the sickness and disabilities they cause only deepen that poverty by leaving people unable to work.

Experts estimate the global toll in terms of lost wages and health expenses amounts to at least US$33 billion annually.

“Investing in NTDs is not just treating diseases, it also helps free communities from poverty,” Gabrielli said.

USAID, the now defunct US aid agency, targeted five of the most common diseases: schistosomiasis, river blindness, elephantiasis, trachoma and intestinal worms.

Trachoma, which can turn eyelashes inwards so they scrape against the eye, is the leading infectious cause of blindness worldwide.

Elephantiasis, a stigmatising condition that causes the legs and genitalia to balloon, often leaves sufferers ostracised.

Many of the diseases are ancient.

Evidence of schistosomiasis has been found in Egyptian mummies. The parasitic worms, which stunt growth and can lead to bladder cancer, affect about 250 million people.

    Drug donations

Before its termination, USAID worked with 26 countries, most in Africa, supporting the delivery of billions of drugs provided for free by major pharmaceutical companies.

Every US$1 invested by the United States leveraged US$26 in donated medicines, according to a USAID factsheet.

Most are used in “mass drug administrations” which treat everyone in a given area, infected or not. The WHO said the US cuts had delayed 47 treatment campaigns.

The crisis has also cost jobs – in Sierra Leone alone, 30,000 community drug distributors have lost work.

Pharmaceutical companies are keeping a close watch.

Merck Group, which provides up to 250 million doses of praziquantel a year to treat schistosomiasis, has already cut production for 2026, although it remains ready to scale back up.

“We can’t risk delivering drugs with a relatively short shelf life into countries which don’t have funding to deliver them,” said Johannes Waltz, head of Merck’s schistosomiasis elimination programme.

He said there had been “a lot of fire-fighting” to prevent treatments going to waste, but there were still drugs sitting in warehouses with no guarantee they could be distributed.

“These worms lay hundreds of eggs a day so even one missed treatment could lead schistosomiasis to explode, wiping out years of progress,” he added.

    Diseases eliminated

The cuts could undermine a WHO goal of 100 countries eliminating at least one disease by 2030.

So far, 57 countries have reached that target, with some ending three or four.

In January, Niger became the first country in Africa to be declared free of river blindness, a disease causing intense itching, disfiguring skin conditions and vision loss.

Other successes this year include the elimination of sleeping sickness in Kenya and Guinea, and trachoma in Senegal, Burundi, Mauritania and Papua New Guinea.

But Trump is not the only donor to turn away.

Britain ended its NTD programme in 2021, while recent reductions in global aid have further squeezed funding.

Following the US cuts, 50 African countries met in June to hammer out plans to target the most pressing NTDs. A key goal is to fold NTD treatments into domestic health services.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said nearly US$700 million was needed to tackle NTDs on the continent over the next two years.

Drug treatments are only part of the picture.

Preventing diseases requires investment in water and sanitation – another sector hit by aid cuts – and robust monitoring to stop any resurgence.

Solomon Zewdu, CEO of the END Fund, a philanthropic organisation focused on NTDs, warned the cuts could have consequences down the line if surveillance is neglected.

Ridding Niger of river blindness has been hailed as a beacon of hope – but the black fly that spreads it can travel 400 km (250 miles) a day.

“Diseases don’t understand borders,” Zewdu said.

“The cuts could threaten the long-term success of the wins we’ve had, if we take our eye off the ball.”

  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra leak hints at more rounded corners

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra leak hints at more rounded corners

Samsung made a big design change with the Galaxy S25 Ultra this year, ditching its squarish, sharp edges in favor of rounded corners for better ergonomics. While subtle, this tweak significantly improves the phone’s in-hand feel. With the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung will seemingly make the corners more curved.

One common complaint about Samsung’s Ultra flagships in recent years has been their in-hand feel. Due to the squarish design, the likes of the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra feature sharp edges. This makes them difficult to hold, especially with one hand, as the sharp corners dig into one’s palm. The sharp corners also made it harder to slip the phone into a jeans pocket.

Almost all other major flagship Android phones feature rounded edges to avoid these problems.

Samsung addressed this problem to a great extent with the S25 Ultra, as its rounded corners almost put an end to such issues. Now, it seems that with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, the company will take things further, making the four corners even more rounded. This should further improve the in-hand feel and ergonomics. It also aligns well with the phone’s rumored thinner design, giving it a sleeker look.

Galaxy S26 Ultra may bring minor changes that matter

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 lineup is still at least five months away from launch, but recent leaks have already detailed many of its big changes.

The Ultra model will retain the same 5,000mAh battery as previous Ultras, but it could make up for it with faster 60W wired charging. And while Samsung will stick to the same 200MP HP2 primary camera sensor for another year, it will supposedly pair it with a brighter f/1.4 aperture.

For comparison, the S25 Ultra’s main camera features an f/1.7 aperture. The wider aperture should allow for significantly more light intake, helping improve low-light pictures. Even the 3x 10MP telephoto camera could see a resolution bump to 50MP, delivering sharper detail.

Another wild rumor claims Samsung could use a new “Flex Magic Pixel” OLED panel on the Galaxy S26 Ultra that will use AI to keep your display more private.

Starwatch: Celestial sleuthing needed to track down Hercules the hero | Science

In August, track down the constellation of Hercules, the hero. It is well placed from the northern hemisphere at this time of year, but finding it requires a little bit of celestial sleuthing owing to the fact that the constellation contains no really bright stars. Once seen, however, it seems to dominate its patch of the night sky.

The chart shows the view looking west-south-west from London on 25 August at 10pm BST. The constellation’s most recognisable feature is the four stars making up the keystone shape that represents Hercules’s body.

The constellation was one of the 48 constellations defined by Ptolemy in the second century. In the myths of classical antiquity, Hercules was Zeus’s son. Immensely strong but murderously temperamental, Hercules was taught responsibility by the Oracle of Delphi, who set him 12 tasks. The completion of these tasks absolved his crimes and elevated him to hero status.

When tracking him down, bear in mind that the constellation is large, spanning the fifth-largest area of all the 88 modern constellations.

From the southern hemisphere, Hercules appears in the north during the evening. The farther south, the lower the constellation appears. From Sydney, Australia, for example, Hercules just rises above the northern horizon by mid- to late evening.
