Andy Samberg fondly remembered his late Brooklyn Nine-Nine costar Andre Braugher, reflecting on their time together on the two-time Emmy-winning sitcom and how the show has endured for audiences since its conclusion in 2021.
During a recent episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the Saturday Night Live alum discussed seeking Poehler’s advice on taking the lead role in the Mike Schur and Dan Goor-created series about a Brooklyn-based precinct, as the writers were also behind her Parks and Recreation. Samberg said he didn’t realize how well-known and beloved the show was until a family trip to Europe a couple years ago resulted in him getting recognized everywhere.
“It’s a gift that keeps giving,” the Palm Springs star said. “Because of the Netflix part of it, everywhere I went, it was like, ‘Jake Peralta!’ I felt like I was on Friends. I was like, ‘Oh my God, the show is actually really big and people really watch it.’ And kids love it and families watch it together, which was such a part of my experience growing up, was watching good quality sitcoms together as a family. And just being able to think that I did something that is that for people is really gratifying. And it was amazing, like I’m still really close with everyone I worked with there and loved it so much.”
Poehler then brought up Braugher, whom she described as a “poised … playful and fun” performer, and Samberg emphatically agreed, adding, “And just a good person. Like so deeply moral and kind and pleasant and smart. We all absolutely loved him. I miss him a lot. Our dynamic worked immediately. It was like one of those things where you’re just like, ‘This is kismet. I don’t know how to explain it.’”
He continued, describing their first table read together: “From that moment forward, the only thing me and him had to even talk about creatively was in the beginning he didn’t trust himself to do comedy because he came so strictly from drama and Juilliard and five or six times we would do a more serious topic on the show and he would flip that switch and everyone would be like, ‘Oh my God, what is Andre doing here? He’s so good.’”
A venerated actor, the two-time Emmy-winning Braugher died in December 2023 at the age of 61 from lung cancer. Outside of his fan-favorite role as the stoic yet playful leader Captain Ray Holt, he starred in series Homicide: Life On The Street, The Good Fight, Men of a Certain Age and Thief, as well as films Salt, Passengers, Glory and Primal Fear. The Juilliard-trained actor was also a prolific stage performer.
The discovery of four different subtypes of autism is a major step toward understanding the condition’s genetic underpinnings and improving care, researchers reported in Nature Genetics.
According to researchers, the four autism subtypes can be categorised as: Behavioural Challenges, Mixed Autism Spectrum Disorder with Developmental Delay, Moderate Challenges, and Broadly Affected.
Each subtype exhibits distinct developmental, medical, behavioural and psychiatric traits, and importantly, different patterns of genetic variation, the researchers said.
The findings are drawn from a study of more than 5,000 children with autism, ages four to 18, and nearly 2,000 of their non-autistic siblings. The study looked for nearly 240 traits in each individual, from social interactions to repetitive behaviours to developmental milestones.
While the four subtypes may share some traits – like developmental delays and intellectual disability – the genetic differences suggest distinct mechanisms are behind what appear on the surface to be similar characteristics.
The timing of genetic disruptions and the effects on brain development differ with each subtype, researchers found.
As a result, some of the genetic impact of autism may occur before birth, while other effects may emerge as children grow, according to the study.
“What we’re seeing is not just one biological story of autism, but multiple distinct narratives,” study co-leader Natalie Sauerwald of the Flatiron Institute in New York said in a statement.
“This helps explain why past genetic studies (of autism patients) often fell short,” she said.
“It was like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle without realising we were actually looking at multiple different puzzles mixed together. We couldn’t see the full picture, the genetic patterns, until we first separated individuals into subtypes.” REUTERS
A career is set to end on Saturday night in Atlanta. Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg gets a chance to retire on top in Saturday Night’s Main Event against world heavyweight champion Gunther. It all goes down at the State Farm Arena.
Goldberg, 58, returns to his second home for his swan song. Goldberg cut his teeth on the gridiron as an Atlanta Falcon and Georgia Bulldog before embarking on a legendary WCW run, a promotion that also called Atlanta home. The four-time world champion hopes to add one more title to his trophy case by upsetting “The Ring General” Gunther.
Three additional matches are planned for the primetime special. LA Knight vs. Seth Rollins, Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre, and United States champion Solo SIkoa vs. Jey Uso round out the card.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will be presented live on Saturday from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. It is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET. CBS Sports will be with you the whole way through the event, providing updates and highlights as the action unfolds in the live blog below.

Hours before Seth Rollins faces LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event, his “oracle” Paul Heyman took to X to acknowledge Brock Lesnar’s birthday.
“It’s the birthday of the Beast,” Heyman wrote, sharing a photo of himself pointing at Lesnar, who is seen with the WWE Championship over his shoulder.
The post is likely to raise eyebrows. On the June 30 edition of Raw, Heyman hinted that Rollins was working on a secret plan. Before Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker faced off against Penta and Sami Zayn, Reed asked Heyman about the group’s missing leader.
“The Visionary is already on a jet right now, perfecting Plan B,” said Heyman.
Breakker interrupted before Heyman could explain, then the group marched to the ring without further comment.
Lesnar, 48, has not appeared on WWE programming in nearly two years. His last match was against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in 2023. He was expected to return in 2024, but plans reportedly changed after his name surfaced in a lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, accusing former chairman Vince McMahon of sexual abuse and trafficking.
In June, it was rumored that WWE had discussed adding Ethan Page or Ricky Saints to Rollins’ new stable on Raw. During the Great American Bash on Saturday afternoon, Saints lost to Page in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, fueling speculation that his time in NXT may be coming to an end.
Heyman’s post may be a misdirect, intended to draw attention to Lesnar while Rollins introduces a surprise ally. Then again, “Plan B” could refer to the birthday Beast himself — Brock Lesnar. It’s also possible Heyman was simply sending well wishes to his once-celebrated client while stirring up speculation ahead of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has urged the human rights organisations to build an impartial and fact-based narrative of Balochistan’s history, current realities and overall situation.
He expressed these views in a meeting with a delegation from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta on Saturday.
Bugti said the ongoing narrative at the national and international level regarding Balochistan was inconsistent with facts and was in need of revision to reflect a balanced and accurate perspective.
The meeting included in-depth discussions on law and order, human rights conditions and the province’s social development initiatives.
Dwelling on history, Bugti pointed out that the accession of the erstwhile Kalat State to Pakistan in 1948 was the result of mutual agreement rather than coercion, adding that certain groups had deliberately distorted historical facts to mislead those unfamiliar with the region’s true past.
Referring to recent terrorist incidents, he condemned the targeted killing of innocent citizens based on their identity, describing it as part of a broader agenda driven by hostile foreign powers, particularly India.
“These terrorist acts have nothing to do with a struggle for rights but are part of an organised attempt to destabilise and divide Pakistan,” he said, adding that supporters of these groups have openly expressed their intentions on various national and international platforms.
Questioning the legitimacy of such violent acts, Bugti asked, “What kind of rights movement involves killing people based on their ethnic identity?”
He pointed out that such elements had rejected dialogue and openly advocated for the division of Pakistan, an approach that was unacceptable in any civilised state or society. He reiterated that the state bears a constitutional and legal responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, adding that the obligation would be fulfilled under all circumstances.
Addressing the issue of missing persons, he noted that the phenomenon was not confined to Balochistan alone, but also existed in other provinces and in various countries worldwide.
However, he expressed concern over the prevailing tendency in the country to level accusations against state institutions without concrete evidence.
Even though Superman has just been released, Nicholas Hoult has already scored his next role — an ambassador for the global humanitarian organization, Save the Children.
Hoult, who plays villain Lex Luthor in the new DC Studios film, recently stopped by the charity and community arts center Rich Mix in London to hold a Q&A with kids and discuss his childhood, what it’s like being part of a superhero movie and his journey as an actor.
“It’s been a real privilege to meet the children here at Rich Mix on my first day as an official ambassador for Save the Children,” Hoult said in a statement. “Seeing the joy that they got from taking part in the workshop reminded me how much I loved being involved in film from a young age. It’s clear how passionate they are and it’s been so inspiring to meet the next generation of creatives, who come from all walks of life. I have no doubt they’re on the right path to fulfill their dreams.”
Save the Children, which helps kids get access to healthcare and education, has had a slew of notable ambassadors in the past including Jennifer Garner, Dakota Fanning, Camila Cabello and Olivia Wilde. “We’re thrilled to welcome Nicholas as our latest ambassador, and want to thank him for his unwavering support over the years,” Save the Children U.K.’s head of corporate partnerships Mabel McKeown said in a statement.
“It was wonderful to see how excited the children were at the opportunity to meet him at Rich Mix and hear about his journey in the film industry – something they’re all so passionate about,” she added. “Save the Children believes that every child should get a chance to realize their dreams, no matter what situation they’re born into and today’s workshop with Nicholas has been truly inspiring for the children involved.”

While more people are tuning in for episodes, it’s Love Island’s socials that are really turning heads this year
Love Island is back for its 12th series – and it’s not just the villa that’s had an upgrade.
After falling audience figures in recent years, the number of us tuning in is returning to series eight levels – the year that delivered Love Island icons like Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Indiyah Polack and Tasha Ghouri.
But if daily episodes are our type on paper, social media is the bombshell that’s turning heads.
Figures from ITV shared with BBC Newsbeat suggest the series’ growth on socials is outstripping the success it’s having on TV.
Analysis by the BBC found that Love Island’s official accounts had gained 1.8m followers since the start of 2025, with 1m of those on TikTok.
Ex-islander Diamanté Laiv tells BBC Newsbeat the short-form updates are much more appealing than committing to the nightly TV show.
“I’m a very busy person, so I don’t really have the time to sit down every day for an hour and just watch people kiss,” she says.

Series 11 islander Diamanté Laiva watches clips online but hasn’t committed to the full series
Diamanté, who appeared in series 11, says she’s not surprised millions are keeping up to date on their phone.
“It’s more popular online because everybody’s online, it’s easily accessible. Every 10 scrolls on TikTok is something Love Island-related, so you can’t really avoid it.”
She’s not alone in staying away from streaming the episodes in full.
While the first episode of series 12 was watched by 2.6m people – almost double 2023’s low of 1.3m – the numbers are still a long way off Love Island’s 2019 heyday, when 6m of us tuned in to see Amber Gill and Greg O Shea voted most popular couple.
But that’s still a fraction of the 13m following various official accounts online.
On TikTok there’s been an explosion in Love Island content – with view counts for individual clips outstripping viewing figures for whole episodes.
Dramatic or funny moments from the show proper tend to perform well, but reactions, analysis, and debriefs – where content creators recap whole episodes in a few minutes – also notch up big numbers.
According to data gathered by the BBC there have been more than 87,000 TikTok uploads with a Love Island or Love Island UK hashtag so far in 2025.
For the whole of 2024, the same data suggests that figure was just below 40,000.

Producers promised the ITV reality series would have more drama and twists than ever before
Anthony, better known as “giletslays”, is one of many content creators who have been feeding that growth.
He’s been making videos about the latest series for his 170,000 followers, and some of his Love Island takes have had millions of views.
Anthony says the real draw of Love Island has always been the discourse on social media.
But to take part you need to be up to date, and a nightly show can feel like too much of a long-term commitment for some.
“Sometimes if people miss a couple of episodes they feel they’re too far behind to catch up,” says Anthony.
Super-fan Harriet Fisher, who’s been watching Love Island since series one, agrees TikTok has become the go-to place for updates.
She says the US version of the show, which has overlapped with the UK edition this year, is “popping off” on the app, and believes this has boosted interest in Love Island overall.
“The way that people are engaging with reality TV and Love Island in general is obviously changing,” she says.
“It needs TikTok and social media to survive, to gain viewers.
“It shows that viewers of old can stay engaged, but also get those new viewers in.”
But those new viewers are forming a very different relationship with the contestants, Diamanté warns.

Yasmin Pettet has become a standout islander on socials, largely due to her great posture
Traditionally, audiences have spent whole series getting to know islanders over one-hour episodes.
Even then, contestants have never been shy about blaming selective editing for making them look bad.
But on social media, with character arcs compressed into bite-sized clips, Diamanté worries fans aren’t getting the full picture.
“Conversations are being pulled and tweaked so I feel like it makes it even more orchestrated,” she says. “It kind of takes the reality out of the reality TV.”
Grace Henry, Cosmopolitan’s acting entertainment and lifestyle director, agrees that watching the show via social media fundamentally changes the experience.
“We have to be mindful that these are short clips and clips can be taken out of context,” she says.
“We’re never going to see the full picture of how someone is and things change very quickly in there.”
But Grace thinks online notoriety could work in aspiring reality stars’ favour – even if it means audiences spend less time with them.

Grace Henry has been reporting on the latest series of Love Island for Cosmo
She singles out Yasmin Pettet, nicknamed YasGPT online, as one islander who’s been able to connect with audiences this year.
Videos of Yas giving posture lessons have been viewed more than a million times on TikTok and gained tens of thousands of likes on Instagram.
“We will still have those people and we will have a connection to them, but they will just come around differently,” says Grace.
“It will be based on viral moments and whether they do something big that becomes a meme or a social media moment.”
Diamanté agrees and thinks social clips might even be a better way to build a following than being popular on the series.
As well as reaching more people, she says “more brands are seeing it and that’s the aim of the game”.

The long wait for an Apple Watch Ultra 3 is nearly over, and two key upgrades have been rumored: satellite connectivity and 5G support.
In his Power On newsletter last month, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is on track to launch this year with “significant” new features, including satellite connectivity, which would let you send text messages when Wi-Fi and cellular coverage is unavailable. This feature will work without an iPhone, he said.
Gurman also expects the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to support a special version of 5G for smartwatches. The existing Ultra models support LTE.
Last year, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 received a black titanium case option, but otherwise the Ultra model has not received any hardware upgrades since 2023.
Other likely upgrades for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 include an S10 chip or newer, faster charging, and a wide-angle OLED display that is brighter when viewed from an angle and offers a higher refresh rate for the always-on display mode. All of these improvements were already introduced on the Apple Watch Series 10 last year.
In March, Gurman said Apple was still experiencing issues with a planned blood pressure monitoring feature for the Apple Watch, so it is unclear if that will be ready in time for the Ultra 3.
After a two-year wait, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 should be unveiled in September.
