Ashes of Risotto Rice Husk in Tires: Continental Focuses on More Sustainable Fillers

Continental obtains both materials in proportion from recycled or renewable sources in order to reduce resource consumption. Silica, a filler required to achieve optimal grip and reduced rolling resistance, can be obtained from rice husks instead of quartz sand. The husks are an agricultural by-product from the production of risotto rice, for example. For the raw material carbon black, Continental relies on three innovative processes. Firstly, carbon black can be produced from bio-based alternatives such as tall oil, a waste product from the paper industry, instead of crude oil. Secondly, it can be produced from recycled raw materials such as pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires. Thirdly, a particularly efficient pyrolysis process enables the recovery of carbon black directly from end-of-life tires.

“Innovation and sustainability go hand in hand at Continental. Using silica from the ashes of rice husks in our tires shows that we are breaking completely new ground – without compromising on safety, quality or performance,” says Jorge Almeida, head of Sustainability at Continental Tires.

    • Major milestone achieved in reducing environmental impact and reaching 2025 sustainability targets

Zhejiang Chemetall Surface Treatment Materials Co., Ltd, the Pinghu site of the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability by the Economic Development and Ecological Environment Bureau in Pinghu Dushan Port, China. The site was commended for its pioneering efforts in achieving 100% renewable electricity coverage powered through the purchase of green electricity and implementation of photovoltaic power generation systems, serving as a reference for green and low-carbon transformation to other chemical firms in the industrial district.

Operational since 2022, the Pinghu site is Chemetall’s largest production site globally. By using 100% renewable electricity – including the installation of 2,500 m2 of rooftop solar panels – the estimated reduction of carbon emissions in 2025 is approximately 2,700 tons. This significantly contributes to the overall reduction of Chemetall’s global carbon footprint and the company’s ambitious sustainability goal of utilizing 80% renewable electricity across all sites globally by 2025.

“At Chemetall, we have set ourselves an ambitious sustainability target for 2025 and contributing to a more sustainable future is a high priority for us. Using 100% renewable electricity in our largest facility in Pinghu is a significant milestone. We are very proud that the Economic Development and Ecological Environment Bureau in Pinghu Dushan Port has recognized us for our sustainability achievements which stands as a testament to the effectiveness of our sustainability strategy,” says Frank Naber, Senior Vice President of Chemetall.

“We are honoured to be recognized by the Pinghu Dushan Port government for our site’s renewable energy transformation in China. We are committed to sustainability at Chemetall, and this is reflected across our entire value chain. It includes harnessing clean energy sources in our operations as well as developing innovative surface treatment solutions that empower our customers to meet their sustainability targets. Our customers and partners in the region can expect more from us as we drive the change towards a more sustainable future together,” says Evelyn Shen, Vice President Asia Pacific at Chemetall.

Chemetall is committed to achieving its sustainability targets, progressively rolling out initiatives that leverage every potential to reduce CO2 emissions in its facilities worldwide and continuously improve its carbon footprint in line with BASF’s and BASF Coatings’ goals for sustainable progress.

In Asia Pacific, Chemetall’s facility in Singapore will also shift to clean energy by deploying solar panels to power part of their operations by the end of 2025, joining sites in Pinghu and Melbourne, Australia.

Infudopa SubC® is a user-friendly and minimally invasive alternative enabling flexible dosing and thereby empowering patients with greater independence

DÜSSELDORF, Germany and GOTHENBURG, Sweden, July 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Neuraxpharm Group (“Neuraxpharm”), a leading European specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to central nervous system (CNS) disorders, and Dizlin Pharmaceuticals AB (“Dizlin”), a Swedish R&D company focused on late-stage Parkinson’s disease (PD), today announced a strategic global co-development agreement for Infudopa SubC® — a next-generation, wearable drug-device therapy that offers a user-friendly, flexible, and physiologically sound alternative to existing advanced Parkinson’s treatments, hence empowering patients with greater independence.

This agreement marks a pivotal milestone for Neuraxpharm as it enters the drug-device space with its first-ever combination therapy, reinforcing its commitment to pioneering innovation in CNS and addressing some of the most pressing unmet needs in neurological care.

A New Era in Advanced Parkinson’s Treatment
Infudopa SubC® is a ready-to-use levodopa-carbidopa solution delivered via a wearable subcutaneous infusion belt pump. It is designed to provide continuous, precise drug delivery for patients with advanced PD who experience motor fluctuations that are no longer adequately managed by oral medications.

    Addressing a Growing Global Challenge
PD is the fastest-growing neurological condition worldwide, currently affecting over 10 million people. Global prevalence is expected to double to 20 million by 2050.1,2 For many patients, oral medication loses effectiveness as the disease advances, leaving patients facing disabling motor fluctuations that are better treated by device-aided therapies like Infudopa SubC®. Neuraxpharm’s collaboration with Dizlin is a transformative advancement for PD patients, ensuring access to a therapy that is not only effective but also practical and empowering.

Under the terms of this agreement, Neuraxpharm will actively participate in the co-development of the product to ensure its global availability and will receive global exclusive commercialisation rights for Infudopa SubC® in Europe, countries outside Europe where it has a direct presence, and via partners in other territories, such as US or Japan, to be agreed by both parties.

Dr. Jörg-Thomas Dierks, CEO of Neuraxpharm, stated: “Our partnership with Dizlin is a powerful step towards reshaping the future of Parkinson’s care. Infudopa SubC® is more than a therapy — it’s a life-changing solution, effectively and practically delivering treatment to PD patients. This collaboration reflects our unwavering mission to bring forward differentiated, breakthrough solutions for people living with CNS disorders.”

Björn Velin, CEO of Dizlin Pharmaceuticals, added: “Dizlin Pharmaceuticals is very pleased to have entered into an agreement with a well-established and highly reputable pharmaceutical company specialising in the central nervous system – specifically Parkinson’s disease – and with a strong commercial organisation.

“We are committed to bringing our products to market quickly – and confident of being successful in this regard – so that more patients in the advanced stage of Parkinson’s disease can gain access to this possibility of enhancing their life quality and functioning.”

Building on a Legacy of Innovation
This agreement builds on Neuraxpharm’s expanding portfolio of strategic alliances that bridge pharmaceutical and med-tech innovation. It follows the Company’s entry into digital health through the commercialisation agreement with mjn-neuro in 2022 for a wearable device that predicts epileptic seizures, further demonstrating Neuraxpharm’s commitment to realising innovative solutions in CNS care.

RBA’s surprise decision; how world reported mushroom verdict; and Valerie the dachshund’s new job | Australia news

Good afternoon. The Reserve Bank of Australia has held rates at 3.85%, in a surprise decision that denies further mortgage relief for millions of Australian households. The decision came as a shock to financial markets and a large majority of experts who were sure the RBA board would cut interest rates for a second straight meeting.

Explaining why the bank did not follow through with market expectations of a 0.25% cut, the RBA governor, Michele Bullock, said economic conditions “remain uncertain” and its board was waiting to confirm whether inflation was still on track to reach 2.5%. For the first time in the bank’s history, the monetary policy board’s votes on the cash rate decision were made public, which revealed three of the nine members voted to cut rates today.

The treasurer, Jim Chalmers, said the RBA decision was “not the result millions of Australians were hoping for or what the market was expecting”.
