Singer Tamar Braxton says she ‘almost died’ in weekend accident

LOS ANGELES — Singer, actor and reality TV star Tamar Braxton said Tuesday that she “almost died” in a weekend accident that she doesn’t remember.

“I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury,” Braxton wrote in an Instagram post. “I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility.” She added, “I don’t even know what happened to me.”

Braxton, 48, earlier in the day had posted “Thank you God for waking me up today,” in an Instagram story.

She said she was getting calls after and was struggling to talk so she shared what had happened to her.

The post also said “the way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins… pray for me for real.”

An email to Braxton’s manager seeking more details was not immediately answered.

Braxton was part of a singing group with her sisters, including Toni Braxton, who went on to a major solo career.

They and other family members appeared on the reality series “Braxton Family Values” starting in 2011, and Tamar Braxton has since appeared in spin-offs and other reality shows.

As an actor, her recent credits include the TV series “Kingdom Business.” And she has spent much of the year on a solo singing tour.

Ori Kam has announced he will be stepping down as the violist of the Jerusalem Quartet from October.

In a video posted to social media, Kam mentioned challenging times for the quartet over the last few years, which ’has made it harder for the four of us to hold onto a single musical and professional vision.’

He also cited changes in his personal life and new professional opportunites as reasons for leaving the quartet, of which he has been a member for 15 years.

Kam thanks the ensemble’s management, concert presenters, as well as his former quartet members.

’Your dedication to the music and the traditions we hold dear, not to mention to the audience, has always been at the heart of this ensemble.’

’As Ori embarks on new paths, we wish him the very best of luck and continued success,’ the Jerusalem Quartet said in a statement.

The ensemble will be joined by two violists in the upcoming 2025/26 season; Mathis Rochat, who will perform in the quartet’s North American tours, and Alexander Gordon, who will perform in the quartet’s European and Israeli concerts.

The latest instalment of the Ku’damm drama series will have its world premiere at MIPCOM Cannes. German historical drama Ku’damm 77 picks up from the earlier Ku’damm 56, Ku’damm 59 and Ku’damm 63 series.

Set and filmed in Berlin, the family drama is centered around a dance school. It was created by Annette Hess, the first-ever recipient of Deadline’s German TV Disruptor Award in 2024. Maurice Hübner directs the UFA Fiction-produced series, which is for pubcaster ZDF on home turf. ZDF Studios is across sales with the earlier chapters selling into over 30 territories and scoring an International Emmy nom.

The world premiere will take place on October 14, the Tuesday of MIPCOM, which remains the biggest gathering for the international TV crowd. The screening will be in the famed Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals and followed by a Q+A with cast, showrunner and director.

“The selection of Ku’damm 77 for a World Premiere Screening in Cannes proves the importance of German drama series in this top-class international arena,” said Dr. Markus Schäfer, President and CEO of ZDF Studios. “We are confident that this programme will enjoy the same success with worldwide audiences as previous Ku’damm editions.”

“The Ku’damm collection has truly resonated around the world.” added Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM Cannes. “Its authentic, universal, and compelling storytelling has struck a chord with audiences, and we are thrilled that the international television community will get the chance to catch the first look in Cannes of its much anticipated 70’s era.”

MIPCOM runs October 13 through 16. The organizers have already announced Blue Bloods offshoot Boston Blue will have its world premiere at the event.

David Beckham fears for Victoria’s mental health amid Brooklyn drama

David Beckham ‘worried’ Brooklyn drama will affect Victoria’s mental health

Victoria and David Beckham deeply hurt after Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s latest move.

Brooklyn and Nicola renewed their vows recently after three years of getting married. While Nicola’s family was part of the intimate ceremony, Brooklyn’s parents were not invited.

Now, insiders revealed that while Victoria is heartbroken, David is keeping them together, as reported by Closer Magazine.

The source said the entire Brooklyn, Nicola drama has left the Spice Girls alum “bewildered,” adding, “There are no answers or explanation, which is torture for her. She’s estranged from her own son, which is apparently all the work of his new wife.”

“She doesn’t care about Nicola anymore, that relationship has sailed – but she wants her son back,” the source noted.

However, they went on to add that “David is holding them together.”

“He’s worried about the impact of all this on her mental health – he’s big on keeping her upbeat and giving positive energy, casting off toxic people and building their forcefield up together,” they added.

Noting, “He’s reassured Victoria that what doesn’t kill them makes them stronger.”

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s rift with David Beckham and Victoria began when they snubbed the footballer’s lavish 50th birthday party.

  • Vienna announced as host city for Eurovision song contest 2026 | Eurovision

Vienna announced as host city for Eurovision song contest 2026 | Eurovision

Vienna has been chosen to host the Eurovision song contest 2026, the world’s biggest live televised music event, Austria’s public broadcaster announced, with the final set for 16 May.

Austria’s JJ won this year’s competition, held in Basel in Switzerland, with his song Wasted Love, which blends techno beats with operatic vocals – making his home country the 2026 host.

Vienna, which previously hosted the glitzy TV extravaganza in 1967 and 2015, edged out Innsbruck, the capital of western Tirol province, to stage next year’s contest, the public broadcaster ORF announced on Wednesday.

The final of Eurovision’s 70th edition will be held at the Wiener Stadthalle, Austria’s largest indoor arena, with semi-finals set for 12 and 14 May, Eurovision said.

Since its launch in 1955, Eurovision has become the ultimate pop platform, catapulting the Swedish group Abba to worldwide fame, as well as boosting the likes of Céline Dion, Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton-John.

About 166 million viewers in 37 countries watched this year’s contest, with a record 60% of viewers aged 15 to 24 tuning in. The competition got even more views on Instagram and TikTok.

The show has often drawn controversy, with pro-Palestinian activists staging protests in Switzerland in May after Eurovision allowed Israel – who was runner-up – to participate in the contest despite the devastating Gaza war.

After his win, JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, in an interview called for Israel to be excluded from next year’s competition, sparking a storm of criticism in Austria, a staunch supporter of Israel.

JJ, 24, has since sought to defuse the controversy, saying via his record label, Warner, that he was “sorry if his comments had been misinterpreted”.

Austria’s far-right Freedom party, which came top in elections for the first time last year but failed to form a government, has described Eurovision as a “queer, leftwing, woke spectacle” and criticised Vienna for wanting to stage it despite the high costs.

Basel put up nearly $40m (£30m) to host the contest.

Under the slogan “Europe, shall we dance?”, Vienna – more commonly known for classical music and the baroque splendour of its architecture – pushed to host the contest, citing its experience with big events.

It also touted its “enormous” accommodation capacities, its “excellent” transport links, and its “cosmopolitanism”, with 2 million people living in the Austrian capital.

The the Wiener Stadthalle hosted Eurovision in 2015, after the previous year’s edition was won by the drag performer Conchita Wurst. Located in central Vienna, it opened in 1958 and seats 16,000 people in its main hall.

When Vienna last hosted the Eurovision contest, the city installed traffic lights showing same-sex and heterosexual couples instead of a single figure – which proved so popular that authorities decided to keep them for good.

  • Uniting people via live music – and helping rising stars

Uniting people via live music – and helping rising stars

The infectious, unifying exuberance of live music is what drives Si Blatchly, the driving force behind the Chai Wallahs touring festival stage. Now, Blatchly has teamed up with others to respond to the unprecedented challenges facing the sector with a brand new, crowdfunded model

    Si Blatchly live music organiser

Fifty people are crammed together as their bright outfits sparkle under the stage lights. Horns blast, strings pluck, guitars ring out and drums pound, as the UK’s biggest folk band explodes with energy. “It was epic,” recalls Si Blatchly, who’s also known as Si Chai. “The crowd went absolutely ballistic. There was so much joy in the room and every single person on the stage was utterly beaming.”

Blatchly is recalling the moment The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, made up of an ever-rotating number of students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, took to the Chai Wallahs stage for the first time. “Some of those kids had never even been to a festival before, let alone played in front of 2,000 people,” he says. “So, to see them absolutely smash it was such a massive rush. It gives me such a kick to see that. It’s such a beautiful thing to witness that I can get quite weepy sometimes.”

Blatchly has been involved with Chai Wallahs since 2004, when he came up with the idea of combining his two passions. “I wanted to introduce people to health products and things like natural incense, goji berries, wheatgrass and juices,” he recalls. “And I was also passionately into music, so I merged the two.”

Initially it was a stall that served up brews, juices and herbal shots, along with DJs spinning tunes, but by 2007 it had evolved into a touring live stage. Since then, Chai Wallahs has been a staple at festivals across the UK, such as Green Man, Kendal Calling, Secret Garden Party and Shambala, putting on the likes of Ezra Collective, Portico Quartet, Kae Tempest, Rag & Bone Man and literally thousands of other acts.

Chai Wallahs has always been a place of solace and discovery away from the hustle and bustle of busy main stages, he explains, in line with his aim to give a platform to up-and-coming artists – potential stars of tomorrow.

We’ve always been about supporting unsupported artists,” says Blatchly. “But providing them with a really professional platform, amazing sound, great hospitality and a nice venue. So that new audiences can engage and hear that music the way it was meant to be heard and open people’s minds up to the fact that you don’t need to go and watch the headliner. There’s so much talent at this level.”

‘Music is a universal language. You can express so much through it and it’s an amazing form of communication and education. But it can also provide so much joy that it can evolve your soul – which is really what it’s all about’ says Blatchly

However, times are tough in the world of music festivals. The Association of Independent Festivals reports that the UK lost 78 of them in 2024 alone. Unprecedented strains on the live music sector, particularly on those operating at a smaller level, has made things especially challenging of late.

The grassroots scene has been under a lot of pressure,” admits Blatchly. “A massive rise in infrastructure costs, the cost-of-living crisis and a whole string of other issues has basically rinsed any available money out of the industry. Some drastic steps were needed, so we thought: ‘Why don’t a bunch of us get together and pool all of our skills, experience and knowledge?

The result is Grassroots Rising, a new Community Benefit Society (CBS) venture that’s billed as a ‘festival of festivals’ and is intended to put power back in the hands of the independents. A crowdfunding campaign will launch this August and, if successful, in June 2026 a group of independent festivals, venues and promoters will join forces to create a collaborative event over one weekend in Cambridgeshire.

This model will make it more affordable, and allow us to create a showcase for grassroots music. This is a true return to festival culture – a blueprint for the future

If we all join together, our collective power and reach is huge,” says Blatchly. “The model will help reduce running and ticket costs, making it more affordable, and allow us to create a showcase for grassroots music. This is a true return to festival culture and that’s what we need to go back to, because the existing model doesn’t work for the vast majority. This can be a blueprint for the future.”

Luke Potter, a singer songwriter who performs as Potter, has seen up close just how crucial these spaces can be for aspiring musicians. “What Chai Wallahs has achieved in the last 20 years is remarkable,” he says. “It’s saved my life on more than one occasion. Si supported my band for 10 years playing there and I still sing on that stage every year. It isn’t just a venue or a support platform for bands, it can literally be a lifesaver for people.”

Despite the ongoing difficulties that the industry faces, the infectious spirit, exuberance and magic that live music can produce is the thing that keeps Blatchly pushing forward. He remains passionately in search of moments that will create a buzz similar to seeing 50 smiling young musicians packed on to a stage.

“Music is a universal language,” he says. “You can express so much through it and it’s an amazing form of communication and education. But it can also provide so much joy that it can evolve your soul – which is really what it’s all about.”
