  • Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Announced: Fans React

Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Announced: Fans React

Taylor Swift gave fans the best news they could possibly ask for on Tuesday (Aug. 12) — that she has a new album on the way.

After launching a mysterious countdown on her website and sending Swifties into an anxious frenzy, the pop star finally confirmed through a teaser for boyfriend Travis Kelce’s upcoming New Heights podcast episode that after months of dropping Easter eggs — the orange Eras Tour outfits, the 12 letter I’s in her letter about reclaiming her masters, the 12 Taylor Nation pictures — her 12th studio LP, The Life of a Showgirl, is coming soon. And though the title of the album is the only known detail so far, Swift’s fanbase is overflowing with excitement and predictions for the hitmaker’s next era.

“can’t wait for taylor to release my new favorite taylor swift album to go along with my other favorite taylor swift albums,” one person wrote on X.

A second fan rejoiced, “HALLELUJAH WE ARE CLOWNS NO MORE! WELCOME HOME THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL.”

“finding out that a new taylor swift album is coming out is a feeling that i can only describe as the same as drinking 17 brown sugar shaken espressos,” a third person added.

Several fans mentioned feeling like they were experiencing Swiftie “zoomies” in reaction to the news — “Taylor Swift zoomies are at an all time high rn y’all I’m watching the eras tour and RUNNING around my apartment trying to make the time go faster,” one person shared — while one listener declared that she was “bouncing around my room like a feral cat” with excitement. Many Swifties wasted no time in theorizing about the possible sound and subject matter of The Life of a Showgirl, which will mark the hitmaker’s first LP since 2024’s 17-week Billboard 200-topping effort The Tortured Poets Department.

“going from TTPD, an album about fame and vulnerability and the toll it takes on her personhood and mental health to The Life Of A Showgirl, which is another angle on fame,” one fan mused. “(and maybe a more empowering angle?) I’m SOOOOO excited to hear what she has to say in these songs.”

“the life of a showgirl makes me feel like she’s aboutta bust out of the TTPD insane asylum with the most insane stories and she’s gonna be loud about em,” agreed another Swiftie.

“All I know is that Taylor is about to treat us to an incisive retrospective on her entire life as a ‘showgirl,’” one listener wrote. “The loss of her innocence, the loves and lives she sacrificed to scrutiny, and the weight of being a woman in the public eye. Looks like TTPD was only the beginning.”

But it wasn’t just the average Swifties who were excited about the upcoming project. King Swiftie himself (aka Flavor Flav), shared the pop superstar’s image of the sparkly orange vinyl with the matching lock on Instagram, while New York City’s Empire State Building’s Instagram account shared a photo of the landmark lit up in the same orange, captioning the post, “Onto the next era.”

Though fans are clearly well and truly hyped for The Life of a Showgirl, Swift still has a lot to reveal about the project. She’s expected to share more details in her full guest episode of New Heights — which drops Wednesday evening (Aug. 13) — but for now, all Swifties have to go off of is a clip posted to the podcast’s social media accounts.

“I wanted to show you something,” she says in the video, carefully taking out a blurred vinyl from a “T.S.” brief case. “This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.”

  • Lawsuit against creator dropped by toy company

Lawsuit against creator dropped by toy company

A lawsuit against the Irish content creator behind the incredibly popular Sylvanian Drama social accounts has been dropped.

The brains behind the tongue-in-cheek account, Thea von Engelbrechten, whose TikTok and Instagram has 2.5m and 1m followers respectively, stopped posting in December 2024 which led to fans questioning where she had gone.

In April of this year, Epoch, the Japanese company behind Sylvanian Families, filed a lawsuit in New York alleging “copyright infringement” and “irreparable injury” to its reputation.

However, they have now dropped the case.

The creator first found viral fame during the Covid-19 pandemic, using the dolls to create soap opera-style scenarios – such as murders and affairs.

Video captions included “My marriage is falling apart” and “My boyfriend won’t post me on Instagram”.

By contrast, Sylvanian Families – known as Calico Critters in the US – are marketed as “an adorable range of distinctive animal characters with charming and beautiful homes, furniture and accessories”.

Characters have names like Freya the Chocolate Rabbit girl, Ambrose the Walnut Squirrel baby and Pino the Latte Cat baby.

In its lawsuit, Epoch claimed that the creator had advertised “other brands”, including Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, and Netflix using the toys. In a countersuit, Ms von Engelbrechten claimed that the accounts were “parody”.

However, on 8 August, Epoch dropped its suit, voluntarily dismissing all claims “without prejudice,” with each side covering its own legal costs.

On the same day, Thea broke her social media silence, posting on Instgram: “Hi guys, on the 19th August I will be changing the name and profile picture of this account.

“I’m not sure what to change it to yet so please let me know if you have any suggestions”.

Newsbeat has reached out to Ms von Engelbrechten for comment.

  • Rihanna Rocks a Baby Bump-Baring Hoodie

Rihanna Rocks a Baby Bump-Baring Hoodie

If you Google “cool maternity style,” several Rihanna images will take over your screen. (Seriously, try it.) She is the blueprint! Every time the star has been pregnant—she is now expecting her third child with A$AP Rocky—her impeccable outfits have entirely redefined what mom-to-be fashion can look like. Often, that involves baring her growing baby bump in a cool, nonchalant way. She views her bump as something to be celebrated, not concealed. Her latest ensemble is no exception.

Yesterday, Rihanna was spotted running errands in Beverly Hills, where she rocked a cropped pink hoodie that flaunted her expanding bump. Riri styled the piece with a matching pink bra top and a pair of low-slung baggy jeans (her go-to pregnancy pants). It’s almost as if she treated her belly like an accessory—though, her actual accessories were killer, too: Her layered jewelry included a Marie Lichtenberg dog-tag pendant necklace, and she wore a chunky pair of Timberland boots. (A practical shoe choice, but she has also worn staggering stilettos while expecting.)

In the past, Rihanna has freed the baby bump in a variety of ways—from casual (with a cropped polo shirt and jeans), to super dressy (a totally-sheer black Dior dress). But her latest hoodie moment proves that, even on her most dressed-down days, she still totally embodies proud mom status. When her flawless maternity wardrobe looks this good, she should be proud.

  • Josh Brolin finds ‘Weapons’ opposite to ‘all the same…’ content on streamers

Josh Brolin finds ‘Weapons’ opposite to ‘all the same…’ content on streamers

Washington DC [US], August 12 : Actor Josh Brolin is tired of “all the same sh**” that’s on streamers, so he decided to join Zach Cregger’s ‘Weapons’, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Weapons’ is a mystery horror film, written, co-produced, and directed by Zach Cregger. The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.

The Oscar-nominated actor recently shared how the horror mystery pic is the solution to all the boring content. “You’re looking for great filmmakers, and you’re hoping that there’s another new good filmmaker out there,” he said.

“Right now, with so much content, you’re just watching things on whatever streaming service you’re on, and you’re just going, ‘…why is this so boring, man? Why?’ And just go to the next thing. It’s all the same…”

Brolin added of ‘Weapons’, “And then somebody not only takes the horror genre, but then f* with it and then does something on the edge of absurdity, and it’s sort of humorous, so it’s keeping you off-balance enough for him to have an emotional impact, ultimately, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is all about a community in chaos after all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanishes on the same night at precisely the same time. The small town is then left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance, as per the outlet.

‘Weapons’ not only won over critics and audiences but also came in more than USD10 million ahead of expectations for its opening weekend with USD 42.5 million.

Cregger previously told The Hollywood Reporter that “it seems like horror is one of the few outlets for real creativity right now on a big scale.”

“Without horror, you go to the theatre, and you get people in tights for USD 200 million, and there’s not a lot of room for risk in those movies. And no shade, I’m all for entertainment, entertaining. But, it’s a shame that there’s not a lot of room for anything else,” the Barbarian director shared, adding, “I love horror, my creative tuning fork resonates strongly with horror, so I’m lucky in that regard. I dearly wish that we could have cool, edgy, weird comedies back in the movie theatres. Or dramatic fare for adults in the theatre. I feel like there’s not a lot of movies for grown-ups anymore,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

    • Guests for season 2 include Chrissy Teigen, Tan France, Jay Shetty and more

    • The Duchess of Sussex also drops a confession about Prince Harry’s diet in the preview

Meghan Markle has unveiled the first look at season 2 of her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, premiered the new season’s trailer on Tuesday, revealing a dynamic lineup of guests and announcing the premiere date: Tuesday, Aug. 26.

While season one featured Meghan welcoming friends such as Mindy Kaling and Daniel Martin, alongside culinary legends like Roy Choi and Alice Waters, season two promises an equally impressive lineup. It includes more celebrity pals like Chrissy Teigen and Tan France; renowned chefs José Andrés, David Chang, Samin Nosrat, Christina Tosi and Clare Smyth; as well as cultural influencers like Jay Shetty and Radhi Devlukia. Season two will also feature Meghan’s close friend and Pilates Platinum founder Heather Dorak, along with the return of Martin, her longtime friend and makeup artist.

“I’ve been fortunate to have the people that I want on the show,” Meghan said as she teased season 2 at the TIME100 Summit in April. “I’ve been really lucky. We have a great, great lineup.”

The trailer, set to “Rockin’ Robin” by Bobby Day, shows Meghan cooking, crafting and laughing with her guests — and at one point, Teigen says, “I could do this every day.”

Toward the end of the trailer, she makes a confession about Prince Harry’s diet.

“You know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband,” she says. In response, Chef Andrés says, “And you married him anyway?”

With Love, Meghan is filmed in Montecito, California, where Meghan and Prince Harry live with their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. In an interview with PEOPLE for a March cover story, Meghan said, “The series is about doing what you can do, and doing it with love.”

Michael Steed returned as director for season 2 of With Love, Meghan, and Meghan continued to serve as executive producer.

While the show wasn’t filmed at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s actual Montecito home, Meghan revealed to PEOPLE that her kids have played a special part in the production.

“Archie did the [filming clapboard]! Sweet moments,” she shared. “They would also come with my husband and visit me on set. I loved that my children were able to watch me working and see the balance of that, and understand what Mama does and is working to create and share. It was really special because up until then, they hadn’t seen me at work.”

The new season comes on the heels of the news that Meghan and Harry’s partnership with Netflix has extended into a multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As ever brand,” Meghan, 44, said in a statement on August 11. “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”

  • Roger K Burton obituary | Art and design

Roger K Burton obituary | Art and design

Roger K Burton, who has died aged 76 from acute myeloid leukaemia, turned a derelict former stables for ailing cab horses into London’s most independent and outré arts space. “The building had been unused for about 10 years when my friend Guy Adams found it in 1992. There were pigeons flying about, rats and mice everywhere and ivy growing through the collapsed roof – not to mention a thick layer of printing ink covering up the fabulous floor,” he said.

“It took a good six months to make the place habitable, but it was more than worth it. I still adore seeing the surprised faces of first-time visitors.” Since opening in 1993, the Horse Hospital, in a mews in Bloomsbury, has hung art by Joe Coleman, Ron Athey, Jamie Reid and Banksy; held transgressive film, literature and fashion festivals; run salons on all manner of unpopular culture; and hosted disparate performers such as Gavin Bryars, Lydia Lunch, Anita Pallenberg, Coil and Crass. The Turner prize-winning Tai Shani cut her teeth programming events under the wing of the unswervingly enthusiastic and generous Burton, whose magnetic presence drew in serious, but often marginalised, talent from around the globe.

The Georgian building also houses the Contemporary Wardrobe Collection, the nation’s largest repository of postwar youth culture fashion, which Burton collected; it was sumptuously photographed in his 2017 book Rebel Threads: Clothing of the Bad, Beautiful & Misunderstood, the last word on subversive style.

A teenage mod, the farmer’s son was led from rural Leicestershire to London by an obsessive pursuit of sharp dressing at the end of the 1970s. He created the distinctive appearance of Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s shops Worlds End in Chelsea and Nostalgia of Mud in St Christopher’s Place; he styled countless pop videos and films, including Julien Temple’s Absolute Beginners (1986), Iain Softley’s Hackers (1995) and Michael Haussman’s Blind Horizon (2003); and curated landmark exhibitions. He also served for many years on the jury board at Bafta.

The Horse Hospital’s inaugural Vive le Punk! (1993) was the first to gather together artefacts from all of McLaren and Westwood’s shops. There was a 20-year anniversary show of the same name that included documentary films of British youth culture.

Born in Burton Overy, Leicestershire, where his parents Joyce (nee Kinsley) and Kenneth Burton worked a tenant farm, Roger went to Gartree high school, Oadby. “I never had the opportunity nor desire to go to university. Hating authority, I left school as quickly as possible,” he said.

“I became a jack-of-all-trades and wheeler-dealer, and have somehow managed to survive by ducking and diving while gaining loads of knowledge. I guess I turned into the perennial student.”

His passion for fashion led to the opening of his first shop, Pioneer Antiques (later Hollywood Fashions) in Leicester. By 1976 he was making a living from vintage clothing and was searching for “dead stock” – pristine clothing unsold at the time of its manufacture.

In 1977, he opened the shop PX in Covent Garden, central London, with three friends from Leicester: Ric Carter, Steph Raynor and Helen Robinson. “We were offered this old warehouse by Andrew Czezowski, of Roxy club fame. I had a clear idea of what I wanted it to look like, and just happened to be passing a building in Mayfair that was being cleared out. We paid £20 for all this industrial ducting and metal cages, which fit perfectly with the boiler-room submarine vibe I was after – all courtesy of MI5.”

Though hailed by Michael Roberts in the Sunday Times as the future of retail, having made his mark with PX, Burton moved on. However, his shopfitting talents still remained in situ at Worlds End, with its backwards clock and rolling floorboards: “Everything, from my favourite Midlands pub, the Crooked House in Himley, to Alice in Wonderland, pirate ships and William Hogarth were drawn upon.”

After supplying the wardrobe department of Franc Roddam’s film Quadrophenia (1979) with mod suits that he had been selling on Portobello Road, Burton’s styling nous came to the fore in the golden age of the pop promo. He loved to recount how he had put both the Specials’ Terry Hall (Ghost Town) and the Kinks’ Ray Davies (Come Dancing) in the same 1940s pinstripe suit, describing both as “true professionals”. He said the same of David Bowie and George Harrison.

Life at the Horse Hospital was never easy. Bloomsbury began to be redeveloped in the early 2000s, and the building’s owners tried to oust him. Researching its history, Burton discovered it had been built by James Burton, the most successful property developer of Regency and Georgian London. It was Grade II listed and registered as a community asset. But it wasn’t until late 2024 that Roger attained sufficient funding to secure its future – at the same time as he received his diagnosis.

Throughout his treatment, he worked on the exhibition The In-Crowd: Mod Fashion and Style 1958-1966 at Brighton Museum, and was present at its opening in May (it runs until 4 January). Burton summed up his philosophy as: “A fierce determination and ability to deal with constant threat of failure. But if you put out enough positive vibes, you will find like-minded people, and they will gravitate to you.”

Roger is survived by Izabel Blackburn, whom he met in 1975 and married in 1983, their children Stevie, William and Simon, and grandchildren, Sam, Harrison, Nancy, Emmett, Joe and Ben.
