Families have flocked to a day of dinosaur celebrations in Hull city centre.
Dino Day, organised by Hull BID, included puppet-style displays of a raptor, a dilophosaurus and a parasaurolophus, along with free face-painting, a “super sleuth” trail and a colouring competition.
Laura, 40, attended with her children Amelia, 10, Harrison, six, and Christopher, seven.
“It’s a really awesome idea and it’s been brilliant,” she said.
“With the cost of living nowadays, it’s really nice. I think it’s wonderful they’ve put this event on for everybody to take part in.”
Organisers estimated that between 8,000 and 9,000 people attended.
Rawalpindi’s entertainment arena is losing its landmarks as yet another historic venue is being erased. Nishat Cinema, located on Liaquat Road near the historic Liaquat Bagh, has been demolished after 75 years.
Built in 1950, during the golden era of Lollywood, the cinema primarily showcased Punjabi films, with occasional Urdu screenings. At that time, a general transport terminal operated next to Liaquat Bagh, and moviegoers would often catch the last show at Nishat before departing to cities like Lahore.
Once home to 24 cinemas, Rawalpindi no longer screens any films. Fourteen cinemas have been replaced with plazas and commercial centres, three converted into wedding halls, two occasionally hosting theatre performances, and five remaining shut for 25 years—whose owners have also applied for demolition permits to build commercial complexes.
Nishat Cinema once enjoyed packed audiences, including screenings of Indian films until 1952. It flourished until the 1990s, after which the decline of Pakistan’s film industry led to the closure of many theatres. Internal disputes among the owners and court cases forced Nishat’s closure in 2000.
Following a settlement between the parties and the end of litigation, demolition began on Friday to make way for an approved eight-storey commercial plaza. The site, considered prime property on Liaquat Road, has long been a focal point for passersby—and even the subject of disputes and gunfire.
With this demolition, Rawalpindi’s once-thriving film industry has all but disappeared. Cinemas such as Naz, Shabistan, Gulistan, Sangeet, Rose, Novelty, Taj Mahal, Imperial, Nigar, Tasveer Mahal, Rex, Capital, and Qasim have all been converted into plazas.
Kahkashan, Nadir, and PAF have become wedding halls. Moti Mahal and Rialto occasionally host theatre shows while Khurshid, Plaza, Odeon, Serose, and Garrison have been shut for over two decades.
Shawn Mendes has taken a surprising turn ahead of his global tour, quietly moving into the quiet Cotswolds village of Great Tew. With a population of just 200, the singer appears to have traded red carpets and paparazzi for countryside cafés and historic pubs.
Locals in the Oxfordshire village, already home to British celebrities like David Beckham and Simon Cowell, have spotted the Canadian pop star around town. According to one resident, Mendes has rented a modest home to enjoy some solitude before his international dates begin. “No one ever asks for selfies, so he must love being left alone,” the source noted, adding that he was recently scolded for placing a café order just before the kitchen closed.
Mendes’s most recent album, Shawn, was released in late 2024 and marked a deeply introspective phase in his career. Describing the record at the time, he said, “It helped me reconnect with myself, allowing me to work through emotions, find clarity and feel stronger.” His decision to base himself in Great Tew fits that narrative, with its peaceful countryside and sense of anonymity offering a welcome contrast to the limelight.
He has since jetted off to Budapest for the opening night of his tour, which will include stops in Denmark, Austria, Germany, and London’s O2 Arena before heading to the United States. The tour promises an evolved sound and a renewed sense of purpose.
Fans have taken to social media to share sightings and speculate on how the English countryside is influencing the singer’s next creative phase. So far, Mendes seems content keeping a low profile in one of the UK’s most exclusive but peaceful celeb hideouts.
EXCLUSIVE: After hitting it big with the Sydney Sweeney-Glen Powell rom-com Anyone but You, Will Gluck hopes lightning strikes twice as he looks to have landed on another pair of young stars to light up the screen for his next feature. Sources tell Deadline that Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner are set to star in One Night Only for Universal Pictures.
Sources also say the film will bow on August 7, 2026. Gluck will direct the project based on his rewrite of Travis Braun’s Black List script.
The script topped the 2024 Blacklist, and while it’s unknown if Gluck’s version will stray from the original story, the draft follows two strangers who scramble to find someone to sleep with on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal.
Gluck will produce through Olive Bridge Entertainment. Jacqueline Monetta, VP of Olive Bridge Entertainment, will oversee and produce with Gluck. Senior EVP Production Development Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.

Gluck had been weighing a handful of options following the success of Anyone but You and finally landed on this project on his next film. Given his track record of taking rising stars including Emma Stone, Sweeney and Powell and turning them into A-listers, the project attracted a ton of talent; Barbaro and Turner were top choices from the start.
Barbaro has had a slew of offers to choose from following her first Academy Award nomination earlier this year for her star-making performance as the iconic folk singer and activist Joan Baez in James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. She is in production on Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial opposite Yura Borisov and Andrew Garfield for Amazon MGM.
Next up, Barbaro will make her stage debut at London’s National Theatre in a revival of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liasons Dangereuses opposite Lesley Manville and directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Marianne Elliott. She’ll also star in Bart Layton’s Crime 101 opposite Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry and Chris Hemsworth for Amazon MGM. Barbaro is also known for her breakout role as Phoenix opposite Tom Cruise and Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick, which received six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture.
As for Turner, he next will star in the film Rose of Nevada from Protagonist Pictures, written and directed by Mark Jenkin, opposite George MacKay, which will have its world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. He also will star in A24’s romantic comedy feature film Eternity, directed by David Freyne, opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller. The film is set to debut at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival in September before its theatrical release in November. Also upcoming, Turner will appear in the drama thriller film Rosebush Prunning, directed by Karim Aïnouz, starring alongside Jamie Bell, Riley Keough, Elle Fanning and Pamela Anderson.
Turner recently completed production on Neuromancer, Apple TV+’s adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel. He will star as Case in the 10-episode series from creators Graham Roland and JD Dillard. He also attended the 2025 Sundance Film Festival for the world premiere of Atropia, a war satire film written and directed by Hailey Gates, produced by Guadagnino, also starring Alia Shawkat. The film won the Grand Jury Prize in the festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition.
Gluck directed the 2023 box office hit Anyone but You, starring Powell and Sweeney. He also helmed 2011’s Friends with Benefits, starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, and 2010’s Easy A starring Stone, in addition to launching the Peter Rabbit franchise.
Barbaro is represented by UTA, Range Media Partners and Meyer & Downs. Turner is represented by WME and Curtis Brown (UK). Gluck is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer.
Disney’s body-swapping comedy Freakier Friday and New Line’s acclaimed mystery-comedy Weapons are off to the races at the late-summer box office.
The two August pics are expected to end up in a close race for No. 1 domestically and topple Marvel Studio’ struggling holdover The Fantastic Four: The First Steps from the top spot. Marvel and parent company Disney are still hopeful that Fantastic Four will rebound, but there are no assurances.
Horror could use a win after such box office bombs as Blumhouse and Atomic Monsters’ M3GAN 2.0, which opened to only $10 million in June on its way to topping at $40 million worldwide, compared to $180 million for the first film.
Zach Cregger’s Weapons — which currently boasts a 96 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes — grossed a hefty $5.7 million in previews. It had been tracking for a domestic debut in the $25 million to $30 million range, but could come in higher. The R-rated title was the subject of a heated bidding war when it hit the market, with New Line and parent company Warners plunking down $38 million for the package, which including a $10 million payday for Cregger, who made waves with his debut feature film, 2022’s Barbarian, which he both wrote and directed.
New Line is also home of Final Destination: Bloodlines, which earned $5.5 million in previews earlier this summer on its way to a domestic debut of $51.5 million (there’s a lot more male-skewing product in the marketplace presently).
Weapons, an original story, stars Julia Garner as a teacher who learns that 17 of the 18 children in her classroom simultaneously got out of bed and ran off into the night the exact same time, 2:17 a.m. Josh Brolin plays a grieving father who is intent on finding his missing child, and is suspicious that the young teacher had something to do with it.
Aden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams and Amy Madigan also star in Weapons, which will be playing on coveted Imax Screens (Imax is also rereleasing summer hit 51: The Movie on select screens this weekend before offering more showings the following week.)
Freakier Friday will play in hundreds of other premium large format screens, including Dolby Cinema auditoriums.
The family comedy — reuniting Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis 23 years after Freaky Friday opened — earned $3.1 million previews, including special sneaks on Wednesday. That’s on par or ahead of Elvis ($3.5 million), the most recent Mean Girls ($3.3 million) and The Lost City ($2.5 million), all of which opened in the $28 million to $31 million range domestically. That lines up with what prerelease tracking shows for Freakier Friday.
Already boasting a 94 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, It’s the first event pic in weeks to target females, and should also benefit from the nostalgia factor. A fun tidbit: after all this time, the 2003 film has popped up on the top 10 list of most watched films on Disney+ in the last week or so.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the modestly budgeted $42 million movie picks up after the events of the first film, when Lohan’s character, Tess, swapped bodies with her mother, played by Curtis. This time out, in a multigenerational twist, they find themselves swapping places, respectively, with the daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter of Tess. Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Vanessa Bayer, and Mark Harmon also star.
The Freaky Friday franchise, which also includes a 1976 film, is based on the book by Mary Rodgers. Disney has enjoyed great success in tapping into nostalgia and luring young adults in their 20s and 30s who grew up on previous installments in its library. For example, it’s live-action tentpole Lilo & Stitch, based on the 2002 animated film, is the only Hollywood pic of 2025 so far to clear the $1 billion milestone after attracting both families and non-parents.
Film studios execs across Hollywood lament how comedies have become an endangered species in the streaming age. Last weekend, Paramount’s Naked Gun reboot bucked this trend in opening to nearly $17 million domestically. While that film is considered more of a straight-up comedy, versus a family comedy such as Freakier Friday, it will be good news for all if they both work.
Colson Baker, better known as Machine Gun Kelly, is a big character and Grammy-nominated musician. Fans are gearing up for a new album, while he continues making headlines while coparenting with Megan Fox. MGK recently spoke about performing at the Super Bowl as the Chiefs lost, and the lesson he learned after hanging out with Taylor Swift in Travis Kelce’s suite.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are a hot couple, and the public is invested in their relationship. The “Shake It Off” singer regularly went viral while attending the Chiefs’ games, and MGK was there to perform at the Super Bowl when the team ended up losing the Big Game. In an interview with ABC about his new album, the rock star gave a warning to musicians who might be thinking about a similar gig. In his words:
Just let me be the only one that could say I’ve done it. Don’t ever sign yourself up for that. Wait to sign the paper until you find out, till third quarter or something. Until it looks like it’s going one way or the other.
Yikes. While Machine Gun Kelly was hyped to hang with his friends and the Chiefs and perform at such a big venue, it ended being a less-than-ideal scenario. Because just like fans, he saw the writing on the wall when the NFL team started losing that infamous game. But he still had to stick around to perform at the event.
Later in the same interview, MGK offered more details about how things went on the day of his Super Bowl performance. At the start, everyone was hyped about the game and his show, including Taylor Swift herself. As he shared:
I was in Travis’ suite and in the beginning of it Taylor was like ‘Hell yeah, we’re going to come watch you perform. It’s gonna be crazy tonight.’ Internally I was stocked like ‘What a legendary night this is going to be.’ By the third quarter I was looking at that score, I went up to Taylor I was like ‘Ya’ll aren’t coming tonight, huh?’
What a bummer. Clearly, this night didn’t go the way that any of them were hoping. That includes Swift, who was booed when she appeared on the screen during the game. She was hyped to see MGK perform, although things changed when the Kansas City Chiefs were predicted to lose the game.
The “Alice in Wonderland” singer went on to share how Swift reacted when he asked if she was sticking around after the Super Bowl. Per his memory, she responded:
She was like ‘I don’t think so, man. I’ll see if I can get him to get out but I don’t think.’
It sounds like Machine Gun Kelly learned a lesson about taking on certain gigs, especially when his friends and live sports are involved. But at least he got a great story out of it!
Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News
Machine Gun Kelly’s new album Lost Americana is available now. He’s also got a few acting projects lined up, although they’re not expected on the 2025 movie release list. We’ll just have to see what comes next for the multihyphenate.

Landscape With a Watermill by François Boucher, 1755
Photograph: Vidimages/Alamy
In this painting from about a century before Millet’s barren peasant scene The Angelus, the French countryside looks a much cheerier place. Soft focus trees form a velvety blue-green sanctuary for a mill whose dilapidation and decay strikes Boucher as delightfully picturesque. In fact, it doesn’t look like a real place at all but a dreamy idyll, inspired by Chinese landscape scenes which were hugely popular in 18th-century Europe. You can picture Boucher’s aristocratic clients delighting in this view of country life and even having a water mill like this one built as a garden folly beside their water feature. And yet, a drawing by Boucher apparently of this place suggests it may actually depict a real water mill beside the Seine. National Gallery, London

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs may not be heading to prison after all, as his legal team prepares to request that the music mogul serve his upcoming sentence under home confinement. His lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, revealed plans to argue for supervised release with mandatory therapy, saying Combs is already seeking counselling for drug dependency and anger management.
The 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder was found guilty in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, he was acquitted of more serious allegations involving sex trafficking and racketeering. Despite the partial acquittal, the conviction has left Combs facing several years behind bars, with sentencing due on 3 October. Until then, he remains incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
According to Agnifilo, Combs had already entered a batterer’s intervention programme before his 2024 arrest. Since then, he has lined up a team of therapists to begin treatment immediately after release. The lawyer told TMZ, ‘I think he needs it, I think he thinks he needs it,’ adding that the court will be asked to make therapy a formal condition of his sentence.
The push for leniency has stirred speculation online. While supporters argue the star deserves a second chance and mental health care, critics accuse him of using therapy as a calculated legal tactic. Public interest in the case remains high, especially following rumours that his team reached out to Donald Trump for a possible pardon, something the attorney has denied.
Judge Arun Subramanian will make the final call on whether Combs stays confined to his home or serves time behind bars. For now, the hip-hop mogul’s future hangs in legal limbo.
