‘Gilmore 2’ star opens up about juggling motherhood with career

Photo: ‘Gilmore 2’ star Jena Sims gushes about Brooks Koepka

Jena Sims has been keeping it real when it comes to motherhood, career, and her relationship with husband Brooks Koepka.

In a new chat with Us Weekly, the 36-year-old model and actress opened up about balancing it all with the pro golfer and their 23-month-old son, Crew.

“For so many women, motherhood is their calling and their ultimate goal. I totally respect that. But that is one of my goals,” she began and revealed that she made her priorities clear long before expanding the family.

“When Brooks and I were discussing having children, I was always like, ‘I’m still going to be working. I’m still gonna have a life.’ I think it’s intimidating to a lot of women who can’t imagine it,” she explained.

It is pertinent to mention that Jena Sims recently makes a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 alongside Brooks Koepka.

Furthermore, the beauty mogul went on to address her husband, with whom she tied the knot in 2022, has always supported her independence.

“I just couldn’t live my life any other way. I’m thankful I found a partner who is very appreciative of that,” she shared. “If anything, I think it’s one of the things he finds most attractive about me.”

“We’re just such a good team and we’re really good at delegating,” she concluded.

  • Drake cancels Manchester gig over ‘travel issues’

Drake cancels Manchester gig over ‘travel issues’

Rapper Drake has cancelled his concert in Manchester on Monday due to “travel logistics”, according to a statement issued by the Co-op Live arena.

The Canadian musician has rescheduled the performance at the venue for 5 August and organisers said “all tickets remain valid for the new date”.

He had already performed two gigs in the the city on Friday and Saturday as part of a global tour and is due to stage another concert at Co-op Live on 4 August.

A statement on the arena’s website said: “Due to unforeseen ferry schedule and travel logistics, tomorrow’s performance in Manchester on July 28th has been rescheduled.”

It added: “The good news is that Drake will now perform in Manchester on Tuesday, August 5th, and it’s set to be an unforgettable night.”

However, many fans with tickets for Monday remained unimpressed, with some describing the short notice cancellation as a “joke”.

A man wrote: “Extended my unpaid leave in Dubai to stay in Manchester so I could see Drake on 28th July just for him to cancel last minute.”

Another woman said she felt it was a “lame excuse of travel logistics”.

One of the most-streamed artists in the world, Drake released his new single with UK rapper Central Cee – called Which One – last Thursday during an episode of his Iceman stream, which was filmed around the city including at Manchester Piccadilly railway station and Victoria Baths.

He has been performing across the UK this summer as part of his first tour in Europe in six years.

  • Strictly announces new professional dancers Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon

Strictly announces new professional dancers Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon

Two new professional dancers are joining the Strictly Come Dancing line-up when it returns to screens in the autumn, the BBC has announced.

American-born Alexis Warr and Australian-born Julian Caillon will feature in the BBC One show alongside 18 returning professional dancers.

Warr won US dance series So You Think You Can Dance in 2022 and has performed as a guest professional dancer and in the dance troupe of Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly.

Caillon has appeared as a professional dancer on three seasons of Australia’s Dancing With The Stars. A former personal trainer, he has also completed two triathlons this year.

“I’ve admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour,” Warr said in a statement.

“I’ve watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who’ve been part of it,” Caillon added.

Warr and Caillon are being interviewed about their new roles on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show on Monday morning.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas will be returning as judges, with Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as hosts. The celebrity line-up for the series will be revealed later in the year, the BBC added.

The show, which has been airing since 2004, has faced multiple controversies over the past year relating to the behaviour of some of its professional dancers and celebrity guests.

Professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima left the show last year following allegations about their behaviour towards their dance partners.

The BBC announced new welfare measures for Strictly last July. These include having chaperones in all rehearsal rooms, adding two new welfare producers and providing additional training for the professional dancers, production team and crew.

In January, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, who had been a celebrity dancer in last year’s series, made what he described as an “inappropriate and unacceptable” comment during the Strictly live tour launch. He took time off from his BBC Radio Wales daytime show after the incident, and the BBC said in May that he will not be returning to it.

EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick was suspended by the BBC last month after The Sun reported that he used a slur against people with disabilities while backstage during Strictly rehearsals in November. Borthwick apologised and the BBC said his language was “entirely unacceptable”.

  • Oprah on the Hoffman Process

    Oprah on the Hoffman Process

Every week, Oprah is setting an intention exclusively for Oprah Daily Insiders, with reflections on topics like letting go, forgiveness, coming into your own, and more.

    Hey Insiders, Happy Sunday!

This week on my podcast, I explored a topic that I have been hearing a lot of buzz about. It’s called the Hoffman Process. Have any of you heard about it? Been through it (or know someone who has been)? If so, let me know what it was like for you.

From all the info I’ve gathered, it’s an intensive retreat that some people describe as a decade of therapy in a single week. I haven’t done it myself, and don’t know if I will, because I feel like I cleared so much residual resentment and came to full circle forgiveness when my mother passed. I realize, however, that so many people are still carrying baggage from their past, and it all stems from what or didn’t happen with their parents. Many people repeat the patterns with their choice of partners and other major relationships in their lives.

I heard about Hoffman from friends who say it helped them forgive their parents, outgrow thought patterns they’d been stuck in since childhood, and reconnect with their authentic selves.

To learn more about it, I spoke to Raz Ingrascio, a Hoffman teacher and cofounder of the Hoffman Institute Foundation, and actor Orlando Bloom, who’s completed it.

Now the Hoffman Process is very intense. Orlando said that they gave him a questionnaire that took him ten to twelve hours to complete—it’s not light work. It also costs about $6,000, so it’s not an option for many. But there is one element of it that everyone can try. As soon as you arrive, you start a “digital detox,” which means no phones, no computers, no screens of any kind—just you being fully present with your emotions. My friend Maria Shriver, who did the Hoffman Process a while back, said that the detox alone was so vital that she brought the practice home. For a couple of days each week, she doesn’t use her phone at all.

Maybe you can’t unplug for days on end, but how about for an hour, or even 15 minutes? Why not start by trying to reduce your screen time by a set amount each week. My screen time average was up to 7 hours a day—even though it was mostly business, still ridiculous! I started turning it off for all walks and hikes, so I can’t be reached and won’t be tempted.

See how long you can go with your phone turned off. Pay attention to the thoughts and emotions that come up when you aren’t in a constant state of distraction. Who are you under all that noise?

Let me know how it goes, and go well this week.

  • Marc Maron gets candid on getting special request approved by Taylor Swift

Marc Maron gets candid on getting special request approved by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift did a favour to Marc Maron but there was a cost to pay

Taylor Swift charges a hefty sum for the licensing of her songs in projects, as Marc Maron knows all too well.

The 61-year-old comedian is a longtime fan of the pop superstar, 35, and has a history with her Midnights song, Bigger Than The Whole Sky, so he wanted to use it in his comedy show.

Maron got what he wanted but he had to pay a cost, which he revealed “came out to $50K [or] around that,” during his appearance at the Vulture’s Good One podcast, on Thursday, July 24.

“I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her,” Maron continued.

Speaking about how he got his request across, he said, “I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he’s the cowriter on that song. I said, ‘I don’t know what’s proper or how to do this, but we’re running out of money on this thing. It’s probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?’”

However, Swift’s longtime collaborator and pal Antonoff advised Maron to “go through the proper channels” to license the 2022 song.

“It was doable. We made enough money,” Maron said. “It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the [televised version of the] special, we are able to get that song.”

Even though he got to play the bit like he wanted after the Grammy winner’s team “signed off” the request, he is unaware if Swift heard the joke that he really wanted her to hear.

Hundreds of people have marched through the streets of Bath for a Pride event to spread “joy, resistance and community spirit”.

On Saturday, the Somerset city played host to a parade, live music, various stalls, demonstrations and performances in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Nathan Maradei, one of the organisers, said the festival was a chance to “celebrate queer identity and protest in the face of overwhelming negative pressure”.

The event returned for its second year following the success of the first official Bath Pride parade, held on 18 August last year.

The event included a parade through the city, followed by a picnic in Sydney Gardens

Bath Pride says it celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and raises awareness about the challenges they face, including discrimination and the advancement of LGBTQ+ rights.

Mr Maradei said the volunteer-run event was an opportunity to “really get connected to the community” and celebrate diversity.

Mr Maradei says the event aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment

“I think the idea that an older city can’t have change is a little bit self-defeatist, and we don’t have to stick with that narrative,” he said.

“It feels really important to march through the streets of the places we walk through every day and be visible.

“Show that we don’t want to be quiet. We are here and we are not hiding.”

Liz Kombate, who works for the charity Mind, attended the march to champion awareness of mental health among the LGBTQ+ community.

Dolly (L) and Liz Kombate (R) showed up in solidarity to show people Bath is a progressive city

“We’re here to show ally ship for the community and put Bath Mind on the map, to show we’re a safe space,” she said.

“I think it’s really important, especially now, more than ever, given the social and political climate.”

Her sister, Dolly Kombate, added: “I think there’s often this idea of places like Bath as a smaller city that it’s maybe not as progressive, but we’re here to show people that’s wrong.”

  • The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Had Looks With Personality

The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Had Looks With Personality

This week, the best dressed stars on the red carpet embraced what summer living is all about. There were loads of breezy silhouettes, upbeat colors, and totally fun accessories. Sure, many of the looks were formal—but they were injected with a sense of fun and personality, too.

Take Tracee Ellis Ross, who twirled into the streets of New York wearing a striped and voluminous Jacquemus design. It was the perfect example of how to elevate beachy attire—and, somehow, make it black tie-worthy. In her black Givenchy suit, Elle Fanning also delivered a winning tailoring moment at Comic-Con: Her sculptural bra top made the dressy two-piece feel youthful and more irreverent, avec a neon pump. More Hollywood, less HR meeting.

There were some dapper menswear moments this week. At the Fantastic Four screening in L.A., star Pedro Pascal sported a white Tom Ford tuxedo jacket by Haider Ackermann, punctuated with a red rose lapel pin and silky little skinny scarf. Chic. Bad Bunny also had fun with tailoring at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere, when he sported a Valentino short suit with Mary Jane flats—an unexpected cool shoe addition.

Which were your favorite celebrity looks this week? Vote below, and check back on Friday to see who Vogue readers crowned best dressed.
