PTI’s Sanam Javed released from Kot Lakhpat Jail

    Pakistan

Released following Lahore High Court bail approval in state-related cybercrime case.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Sanam Javed, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail after being granted bail by the Lahore High Court.

Justice Farooq Haider approved her bail on June 30, following a case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) alleging she uploaded content deemed “anti-state” online. The bail decision led to her release from custody on Tuesday.

The FIA had initiated the case against Mrs Javed under cybercrime laws, accusing her of uploading material that could incite unrest or harm national security narratives. The charges are part of a broader crackdown on political activists using social media platforms to voice dissent.

Sanam Javed’s release marks a significant moment amid ongoing legal battles faced by several PTI leaders in the wake of political tensions and digital expression scrutiny.

Also, in another development, senior leaders of PTI, currently incarcerated in Lahore jail, have issued a formal appeal urging the initiation of comprehensive negotiations to steer the country out of its worsening political and economic crisis.

In a joint statement released from jail on Tuesday, the PTI leaders emphasised that dialogue is the only viable path toward stability. “Negotiations must take place at all levels,” the statement read, adding that both political actors and state institutions need to engage constructively.

The statement further proposed that political negotiations be prioritised as an entry point to broader talks, with incarcerated PTI leaders included in the process. It also called for improved access to PTI’s founding chairman to facilitate the formation of a negotiation committee.

  • Gandapur challenges state to topple K-P govt constitutionally

Gandapur challenges state to topple K-P govt constitutionally

    Listen to article

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has challenged the state, asserting that if it can legally topple his government through constitutional means, he will leave politics if they succeed.

“Don’t do anything unconstitutional — and even through constitutional means, you cannot do anything. Our government, our power, and everything belong to Imran Khan. He can instruct us to topple the government whenever he wishes. Our government cannot be overthrown through constitutional methods,” he said.

Following a meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party, Gandapur held a joint press conference with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, and other leaders on Wednesday.

He described the state, often viewed as a “mother,” as behaving tyrannically. “I challenge the state and all its institutions. You attempted conspiracies and failed. You used unconstitutional means and still could not succeed,” he stated.

Gandapur criticised the state’s actions, saying, “You failed in your conspiracies and unconstitutional measures. You imposed martial law and governor’s rule in the past. Now, I challenge your power and authority. Put our people in jail, use all your might, and try to topple the K-P government.”

The CM added that they cannot remove his government through legal and constitutional means because they cannot break his members. “No one has the power to break those who stand with Imran Khan.”

He further stated, “Today’s meeting sends a message to those who think we’re divided. We are fully committed, body and soul, to securing the release of PTI’s founder. I was arrested before May 9. They claim we committed excesses on May 9, but the conspiracy against PTI’s founder began before that.”

Gandapur pointed out that the 26th Constitutional Amendment is an attack on the judiciary, and that PTI will work to reverse it when they return to power.

Regarding a meeting with the incarcerated former PM, he said, “Imran Khan requested a meeting, and it’s our right to meet with him as he is the head of the party. However, I sense that this meeting might not be arranged.”

In response to a question, he said that Imran Khan has never refused to negotiate. “We want to talk to those who truly hold power. Right now, the country is being run with batons, and everyone knows the real worth of the PML-N and PPP.”

Concerning PTI’s future actions, Gandapur announced that the party plans to launch a nationwide political movement after Muharram and will intensify its efforts. He warned, “If bullets are fired at us, the response will be the same, the response will be similar.”

During the press conference, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar emphasised that all party actions, including negotiations and protests, have been in line with the directives of the PTI founder.

“We are here because of his vote and his leadership,” he said, adding that the purpose of the meeting was to send a unified message. “Any future plan will be made public only after the founder’s approval,” he added.

He criticised the state’s refusal to allow meetings with the founder for vital matters such as K-P’s budget, noting that similar requests for Sindh, Punjab, and federal consultations were also rejected. “Our MNAs were unseated, references were filed, and sentences were handed out. This is not democracy,” he said.

Gohar concluded by asserting that PTI remains the legitimate government in K-P and dismissed any attempts of a no-confidence motion. “Those seeking to bring down our government simply don’t have the numbers. PTI is and will remain in power,” he said.

Moreover, Salman Akram Raja spoke of long-standing political exploitation and injustice. “For eight decades, this nation has been looted. The people of Pakistan have been silenced,” he said.

Referring to last year’s general elections on February 8, he termed it a “historic day when people exercised their democratic right.” “Our struggle is for dignity and fundamental rights. We will continue to fight the battle of the PTI founder and victory is our destiny,” Raja declared.

Addressing a fiery press conference at KP House in the federal capital, Gandapur said that the struggle of PTI would remain continue till the real independence.

Flanked by other PTI leaders, he said that today’s parliamentary party meeting is a message of our unity.

“The constitution was violated, and our mandate was stolen. The May 9 was a conspiracy against the PTI founder,” said the chief minister.

Ali Amin Gandapur revealed that he was pressurised several times to give statements against the party founder.

He added that May 9 was just a pretext; the actual target was the PTI founder.

“You cannot topple our government through constitutional means. If you want to impose Governor’s Rule—go ahead and try,” CM Gandapur said.

    BARRISTER GOHAR

Speaking on the occasion, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that the party holds no personal enmity against anyone.

He added that the PTI founder always talked about dialogue in the politics to end the stalemate.

He also challenged the opposition, saying, “If anyone is eager to bring a no-confidence motion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they’re welcome to try. Those plotting such moves don’t have the required numbers.”

Gohar stated that PTI’s MNAs, MPAs, and senators participated in today’s meeting, where various key matters were discussed — including the reserved seats verdict, the party’s future strategy, and the possibility of dialogue with the government.

“Any official course of action will be shared in due time,” he added.

Addressing the letter from incarcerated PTI leaders proposing talks with the government, Gohar pointed out that the media often portrayed it as though the government had extended offers for dialogue which PTI then declined.

    SALMAN AKRAM RAJA

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that February 8 was a historic day when the people stood against the oppression.

“We’re told to move on and forget it,” he added.

  • PTI presents ‘message of unity’, warns against toppling KP govt – Pakistan

PTI presents ‘message of unity’, warns against toppling KP govt – Pakistan

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday said that the party was standing together and presenting a “message of unity” amid rumours of rifts while warning the federal government against toppling the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration.

Background briefings revealed a complete lack of trust among PTI leaders, with doubts about each other’s sincerity and intentions, particularly regarding messages from party founder Imran Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad and flanked by senior PTI leaders, the party chairman outlined the issues discussed in a high-level meeting and maintained that the PTI would continue efforts to try and free Imran.

“We discussed the aftermath of the reserved seat ruling, which was the first time that the party formed a strategy together,” Gohar said. “It is our decision that we will stand up together for Imran Khan. We have no personal conflict, we are and will remain united and a message of unity needed to be sent in today’s meeting.”

Gohar added that the meeting discussed Imran’s plan for the party to launch a protest movement, stating: “Whatever Khan sahib decides, we will execute it.”

Gohar said that PTI MNAs, MPAs and senators all attended today’s meeting, which discussed a wide range of issues from the reserved seats verdict and the party’s direction to addressing dialogue with the government.

“Whatever direction will be announced, you will see it in due course.”

Discussing the letter from jailed PTI leaders suggesting dialogue with the government, Gohar noted that the media would often infer that the government extended offers for talks, which were rejected by the PTI.

“This is incorrect, from the beginning, Khan sahib said that there should be dialogue,” Gohar said. “Even after our mandate was stolen, he said that. You have taken our seats, but you have registered cases against three of our MNAs, yet Khan sahib says that dialogue needs to be meaningful,” the party chairman added.

Gohar said that there was no delay on the PTI’s part, but said that the government was “not sincere” since it refused to grant the party access to Imran.

Talking about the reserved seats, he noted that there were 25 seats from KP. “Even if these seats go to the opposition … then they are 35 members short. We will protect the KP government at all costs,” Gohar stated. “Those who want to bring a no-confidence motion do not have the required numbers to move even a resolution.”

PTI KP President Junaid Akbar said that all of the provincial political leadership was also present at the meeting and stressed that within the party, decisions by the founder were respected by all members, with “discord set to one side”.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur challenged other parties and institutions to topple the PTI’s government in KP.

“If you have it in you, I challenge your strength and I challenge the state … if you are able to topple our government, then I will leave politics,” he stated.

He criticised the government, saying that it was a “disgraceful stain on the state and its institutions” within the country’s political history, but “they are not ashamed”.

“We are time-tested people who have given sacrifices … So this is a challenge to your powers to try anything only without any conspiracies or unconstitutional ways. But you cannot do it. You cannot topple Khan’s people.”

Speaking on the Feb 8 elections, PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja said that they would always be remembered as the most “democratic day” in history, along with the “attack on Pakistani people”, referring to the election results.

“We will continue to struggle for the public. We will succeed. Do not think that by stealing seats, suppressing the judiciary, the people will step back. We are with the people.”

He further said, “We stand with Imran’s struggle for the public. We will continue to struggle for the public.”

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Sheikh Waqqas Akram said the assembled leadership passed a unanimous resolution against the Constitutional Bench’s verdict on reserved seats and stated that the party would work to ensure the release of Imran and other jailed PTI leaders.

“Legal action, peaceful protest and negotiation are steps we are willing to take,” Akram said, quoting the resolution. He too said the party was united under Imran’s leadership and would remain so.

    • Constitution violated, mandate stolen, says Gandapur
    • 26th Amendment attack on judiciary: Gandapur
    • PTI founder ultimate authority on decisions, says party.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Tuesday reiterated the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) unity and warned that any move to topple the provincial government through constitutional means would not succeed.

“No matter how hard they try, our government cannot be brought down through constitutional means,” Gandapur said. “If anyone thinks they can topple our government, I challenge them — I will quit politics.”

“Anyone who thinks they can create divisions within PTI is mistaken,” CM Gandapur told a press conference as he was flanked by the central leadership of the PTI, following a party meeting in Islamabad.

The KP chief minister claimed that the day’s meeting conveyed a clear message of unity within the party.

“Our authority and this government belong entirely to the PTI founder. Whenever he gives the order, the government can be dissolved,” he said, adding: “You cannot achieve anything constitutionally.”

    ‘Attack on the judiciary’

Moving forward, he said that the Constitution had been violated and PTI’s mandate had been stolen. Gandapur condemned the 26th Constitutional Amendment, calling it an “attack on the judiciary” and a “blot on Pakistan’s judicial and democratic systems.”

“May 9 was just a pretext — the real target was our party’s founder,” he added, alleging lobbying efforts against PTI and that he was pressured to make statements against the PTI founder while in custody.

Gandapur alleged that he was taken across Pakistan and asked repeatedly to quit PTI. “Our mandate was first stolen, and then our reserved seats were snatched,” he said.

Regarding the Kurram issue, he said it was an inherited problem and the road had remained open for the last four months. “Talk to your neighbours, change your policy. A neighbouring country has defeated global powers, this border is not safe,” he cautioned.

He claimed there was a plan to impose an emergency in KP. “When the PTI founder was out of jail, he spoke about negotiations.”

    ‘Seats snatched’

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that PTI founder Imran Khan has always called for dialogue.

“We reviewed the letter concerning negotiations with detained leaders. He has always emphasised meaningful dialogue. Anyone eager to bring a no-confidence motion is welcome to try. Every plan will be executed only on the PTI founder’s instructions.”

He said PTI leaders were elected with the founder’s votes and that the goal of today’s meeting was to demonstrate unity. “After these developments, our seats were snatched. References were sent against our MNAs and punishments were imposed. When we requested meetings on KP’s budget, they were denied.”

Barrister Gohar asserted: “We will defend the KP government at all costs. Those wanting to bring a no-confidence motion lack the numbers. PTI’s government stands and will continue. If there are to be negotiations, concrete steps must be taken.”

For his part, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said that February 8 was historic — people came out in huge numbers.

“This is not a political war but a fight for rights. We will fight the PTI founder’s war and victory will be ours.”

PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram demanded a judicial commission from the Chief Justice to probe the deaths of imprisoned PTI workers. “Many were released after 10 or 11 months in jail — and most came out sick.”

PTI KP President Junaid Akbar said all party leaders from the National Assembly and KP Assembly were present at the meeting. “Despite internal differences, we will act on every order of the PTI founder.”
