Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had a major role in Iran-Israel ceasefire after the two countries carried out attacks against each other for 12 days putting the world on edge due to fears of a wider conflict.

The interior minister’s remarks refer to the Middle East turmoil which erupted on June 13 after Israel launched a bombing campaign in Iran that killed top military commanders and scientists linked to its nuclear programme. Tehran responded with ballistic missile attacks on Israeli cities.

The Israeli attack came a few days ahead of planned Iran-US talks on Tehran’s nuclear programme, prompting Tehran to launch wide-ranging retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets, inflicting what it claims to be “significant damage” to key positions in the occupied territories.

Throughout the conflict, Pakistan voiced its support for Iran at all international platforms, including the UN Security Council (UNSC) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) against Israeli aggression.

PM Shehbaz also held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Pezeshkian, where the latter thanked the premier and appreciated Pakistan’s consistent and principled stance in support of Tehran.

Speaking during a presser alongside religious scholars regarding security measures for the month of Muharram, Naqvi also touched upon the recent Pakistan-India conflict, saying that the country did not suffer much loss.

“None of the missiles fired by India reached their target. India fired about 11 missiles at a [military] base [in Pakistan], but none of our aircraft was damaged,” he said while shedding light on the 87-hour-long conflict which saw both Islamabad and New Delhi carrying out cross-border attacks against each other.

India had launched unprovoked airstrikes on multiple Pakistani cities in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident where 26 tourists were killed in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan then retaliated via “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos”, and targeted several Indian military targets across multiple regions.

A total of 53 individuals, including 13 personnel of the armed forces and 40 civilians, were martyred in Indian strikes during the recent military confrontation.

Expanding on Pakistan’s strategy during the conflict, the security czar stressed that Islamabad did not target India’s civilian population.

On the issue of security during Muharram and sectarian harmony, the minister said that the efforts of law enforcement agencies are as important as those of religious scholars.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary underlined the need for unity to ensure law and order during Muharram as well as to defeat the terrorist elements.

  • Modi’s new normal and Pakistan’s strategic firewall

Modi’s new normal and Pakistan’s strategic firewall

    By Qazi Nashat Akram

ISLAMABAD, Jul 3 (APP)::“Nuclear Weapon states don’t go to war”…..an established dictum in Strategic Studies. Perhaps, the Modi-led Government of India intends to establish a New Normal in South Asia. Instead of toiling for cooperation, it gives precedence to confrontation.

The Modi-led Government is purportedly obsessed with hurling antagonistic remarks against Pakistan and undermining the potency of its military. In pursuit of hegemonic designs, hawkish elements of the Indian politico-security establishment are ploying to carve out space for limited war under the nuclear threshold. The ultranationalist Indian prime minister even went on to declare Pakistan a sanctuary for terrorist groups without providing any actionable evidence. In his post-ceasefire statement, he said military operations have been paused, and will resume in the wake of any terror attack. Such aggressive stance from the top echelon of the Indian Government proves horrendous for regional stability and sustainable peace.

The doctrinal evolution of their military strategy to integrate offensive-defense threatens fragile peace in South Asia. Pakistan has always maintained its commitment and will to establish peace while showcasing the resolve and capability of its Armed Forces to respond to Indian aggression.

The aerial strikes conducted by India against Pakistan in the aftermath of Pulwama and Pahalgam episodes stand as a testament to the recklessness, impulsiveness, and irresponsible attitude of its civil-military leadership. In both cases, India attempted to materialize its so-called punitive strikes against alleged militant camps inside Pakistani territory, as enshrined in its Basic IAF Doctrine (2012), Joint Armed Forces Doctrine (2017), and Land Warfare Doctrine (2018). In addition to kinetic operations, the Indian Government launched a disinformation campaign to justify its illegal actions and clinch domestic legitimacy.

Under the Article 51 of The UN charter, Pakistan’s response was in line with its Full Spectrum Deterrence.  In Feb 2019, PAF targeted open spaces near sensitive military installations of India to demonstrate its will and capacity to inflict massive damage to the adversary. In May 2025, Pakistan’s response encompassed Airstrikes and precision missile strikes against military targets. Pakistan denied India the feasibility of limited War in South Asia via its Quid Pro Quo Plus (QPQ+) response.

South Asia is a least-integrated, conflict-prone, and impoverished region. All these factors exacerbate belligerence between rival states. Interestingly, it is becoming the center of focus for global powers owing to its strategic significance. The USA is bolstering India’s defense capabilities by engaging it in alliances like QUAD and establishing intelligence-sharing platforms like COMCASA and BECA. The convergence of global power competition and historical hostility between India and Pakistan proves cataclysmic for regional stability and peace.

Moreover, scholars of International Relations cannot rule out the possibility of limited war between asymmetric militaries, as evident in recent military engagements. The development of Full Spectrum Deterrence by Pakistan, with the introduction of Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNWs), tremendously increases the cost of military adventurism for India. India terms the threat of TNW deployment in response to Blitzkrieg-style warfare formations—Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs)—as a nuclear bluff. The befitting response, with an additional premium package from Pakistan, vehemently denies such irrational strategic calculus of Indian politico-military leadership.

Expressing his opinion in a recent roundtable at the Institute of Regional Studies, titled Pakistan-India Confrontation 2025: Decoding the New Normal, Air Commodore (R) Dr. Zia Ul Haque Shamsi underscored immaculate professionalism and impeccable performance of PAF during the high-intensity aerial battle in the wake of Ops Bunyan Um Marsoos, which culminated in the downing of six highly advanced IAF platforms. He rightly proposed that the strategy of D2—Deterrence and Diplomacy—must be seamlessly augmented into Pakistan’s integrated response to effectively counter the flawed narrative and reckless aggression of the adversary.

In a nutshell, the risk of nuclear conflict persists in South Asia owing to the extremist, Hindutva-driven leadership of India. With its effective, precise, and proportionate response, Pakistan has increased the cost of so-called punitive strikes. Furthermore, Pakistan’s robust, synchronized conventional retaliation, coupled with a credible strategic force, puts cold water on Modi’s hot pursuit of establishing a New Normal in South Asia.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated on Thursday that Governor Faisal Karim Kundi does not have the authority to topple the provincial government.

Speaking to the media in Peshawar on Thursday, Chief Minister Gandapur remarked that Governor KP Kundi couldn’t even win a councilor’s election.

He added that an inquiry into the Swat incident is ongoing and action will be taken wherever negligence is found. He vowed that those responsible for the Swat tragedy will be punished, and illegal constructions along rivers will be demolished.

Meanwhile, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that no such tactic will be used that could push Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a crisis. He added that interpreting the Governor’s meeting with the Prime Minister as a conspiracy is incorrect. “A vote of no confidence is a constitutional and legal process even Imran Khan himself faced it.”

Additionally, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has accepted Gandapur’s request for an extension of his protective bail and has ordered that the KP CM must not be arrested in any case.

  • Mohsin Naqvi meets religious scholars, stresses their role in ensuring peace during Muharram – Pakistan

Mohsin Naqvi meets religious scholars, stresses their role in ensuring peace during Muharram – Pakistan

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday stressed the crucial role of religious scholars in ensuring peace during the month of Muharram.

Stringent security measures are being taken across the country, such as army deployment as well as a crackdown on sectarian content and hate mongers, ahead of Ashura (Muharram 10), which will be observed on Sunday.

“It is not enough how much we thank you for your role — the heads and ulema of all sects — in Muharram, as everyone has a role in this,” Naqvi said as he met with scholars from various schools of thought in Islamabad.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, were also present during the meeting.

Naqvi highlighted that the efforts of law enforcement agencies during Muharram were as important as those of religious scholars, according to a post on X by the interior ministry.

The minister noted that the ulema remained in “constant communication” with the administration during Muharram and “solved minor disputes”.

He requested Maulana Azad, as well as other scholars, to collectively offer Zuhr prayers at Islamabad’s Faisal Mosque on August 14. “This will give a message to the whole world that we are all united, and there is no better day than the 14th of August.”

Chaudhry also credited religious scholars for dealing with terrorism, sectarianism, and maintaining peace during the month of Muharram.

On his part, Maulana Azad affirmed that they all were united for the country’s security.

For Muharram, Islamabad police have identified 13 points as potential trouble spots, banned the entry of 17 “firebrand” ulema and increased intelligence operations.

While the Punjab government has imposed certain restrictions under Section 144 across the province till Sunday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration has limited it to sensitive districts. In Karachi, over 20,000 officers and personnel have been deployed till Ashura.

Speaking about the uptick in terrorism in KP, Naqvi called on the ulema to engage with religious scholars in the province, offering his cooperation in the matter.

“This terrorism will only end on the condition that the locals there do not help them,” he said.

The interior minister’s remarks come just a day after an assistant commissioner and four others were martyred, while policemen were among 17 others injured as an official vehicle was targeted in Bajaur’s Sadiqabad area.

During the meeting, Naqvi also highlighted the role of the armed forces in the recent Iran-Israel ceasefire, saying Pakistan should be proud of “convincing world leaders” and of playing its role as a Muslim country.

Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that Iran openly thanked the people of Pakistan, its political parties, military, and political leadership for their role in ensuring the ceasefire between the two countries.
