Ferrari have been testing a new rear suspension at Mugello – here’s what we know

Ferrari are set to introduce their revised rear suspension at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, following test sessions at Mugello.

The only obvious visual change is to the forward leg of the upper wishbone, which is now mounted a few centimetres lower than previously. This follows similar changes earlier in the season made by first Mercedes and subsequently McLaren.

The idea of this change – in combination with the anti-dive geometry of the front suspension – is to increase the resistance of the car to changes in its pitch as it is braked or accelerated. In this way, the aero platform of the car becomes more stable and the aerodynamic forces acting upon it become more consistent as a result.

  • Alex Palou Still on Top; Rinus VeeKay Rising

Alex Palou Still on Top; Rinus VeeKay Rising

Pato O’Ward earned his second NTT INDYCAR SERIES race win in outings last weekend in the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, while championship leader Alex Palou logged his worst finish (12th) since placing 25th in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on June 1.

O’Ward inched closer to the top spot in Power Rankings, but that doesn’t unseat Palou quite yet. Palou leads the series with seven wins, including a victory at Iowa Speedway on July 13, and he holds a 99-point advantage over O’Ward heading into this weekend’s Java House Grand Prix of Monterey (3 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX Sports app and INDYCAR Radio Network).

Here’s how the Power Rankings shake out entering WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

    10. Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 SiriusXM Honda; Last Rank: 6)

Rosenqvist was quiet in Toronto, qualifying 16th and finishing 19th, his second result of 17th or worse in the last three races. Still, he has three top-seven finishes in the last five events, offering more consistency than Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard, who has four finishes of 13th or worse in his last six, to take the last spot this week.

    9. Kyffin Simpson (No. 8 Journie Rewards Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: NR)

Simpson delivered a breakthrough performance in Toronto with his first career podium by finishing third. It was the CGR driver’s fifth top-10 finish of the season and fourth in the past seven races. The 20-year-old returns to Power Rankings for the third time in the last four race weekends. (He dropped out following a challenging Iowa Speedway doubleheader.)

    8. David Malukas (No. 4 Clarience Technologies Chevrolet; Last Rank: 10)

Malukas continues to build momentum. He climbed from 15th to ninth in Toronto, securing his second straight top-10 and third in the past five races. The second-year driver sits 10th in points.

    7. Colton Herta (No. 26 Gainbridge Honda; Last Rank: NR)

Herta returned to form in Toronto with a pole-winning effort and a solid fourth-place finish. He re-enters the Power Rankings for the first time since Detroit after ending a streak of 16 consecutive weekends in the top 10. He also has two fourth-place results in the last four events.

    6. Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda; Last Rank: NR)

VeeKay’s runner-up finish in Toronto marks his seventh top-10 of the season, four coming in the last six races. This is his best Power Ranking slot since a strong end of season stretch with Ed Carpenter Racing in 2024, when he was seventh, sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively in a four-race span from Toronto through Milwaukee Mile. This season, VeeKay’s first with Dale Coyne Racing, VeeKay (photo) was ninth in Power Rankings on three occasions.

    5. Marcus Armstrong (No. 66 SiriusXM/Root Insurance Honda; Last Rank: 4)

Armstrong matched his career-best qualifying effort of third at Toronto a week after equaling his career-best third-place result in Race 2 at Iowa. He looked poised for another strong finish before receiving an avoidable contact penalty on pit road. Despite the setback, he recovered to finish 14th, his worst finish since being 18th in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 25. He had a streak of six straight top-10s before Toronto.

    4. Kyle Kirkwood (No. 27 Silver Gold Bull Honda; Last Rank: 5)

Kirkwood’s chaotic Toronto weekend included a qualifying mistake, a penalty for jumping the race start and contact from Armstrong on pit road. Despite it all, he charged from outside the top 20 to finish sixth, his best result since Road America.

    3. Scott Dixon (No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 3)

Dixon made the most of an off-strategy call in Toronto, climbing from 17th to finish 10th. It was his sixth consecutive top-10 finish, a run that includes a win at Mid-Ohio on July 6 and runner-up at Iowa Speedway on July 13. The six-time champion is lurking, just as he always does.

↑2. Pato O’Ward (No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet; Last Rank: 2)

Two wins in three races and five podiums in the last 10 has O’Ward as one of the hottest drivers in the field since May. He remains Palou’s biggest threat. O’Ward’s only finish outside of seventh since the calendar turned May was 17th at Road America.

↔1. Alex Palou (No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 1)

Palou’s 13th-place finish in Toronto, his first real stumble in weeks, was due to a rare strategic miscue. Even so, he remains the driver to beat, with four top-five finishes in the past five races, including two wins and a second. He returns this weekend to Laguna Seca, a track where he has won twice (2022, 2024) and hasn’t finished worse than third.

ERC podium star Wagner set for Zlín a big winner

By winning the Czech championship-counting Rally Bohemia on 13 July and becoming Austrian champion for a fifth time with victory on Rallye Weiz on 19 July, Wagner is being tipped for further success when Barum Czech Rally Zlín takes place from 15 – 17 August.

The 32-year-old has finished the challenging Tarmac event on the podium for the last three seasons – the only driver to achieve to have achieved such a feat.

He is preparing to return at the wheel of a Michelin-equipped Hyundai i20 N Rally2 Step2, which he also drove to victory on Milkservis Rallye Šumava Klatovy – another Czech championship round – earlier this season.

With German Hanna Ostlender co-driving, Wagner’s victory on Rally Bohemia was particularly significant after he beat two of the best drivers from Czech Republic – Filip Mareš and Dominik Stříteský – to victory on Škoda’s home event.

Asked whether he can make it a hat-trick of wins on Czech soil this season, Wagner said: “It will very difficult. I am the only one being on the podium for the past three years so the next step would be the victory. We are extremely strong at the moment in all conditions and everyone knows I love Barum. The big ‘but’ is that Barum is unpredictable and everything can happen there. And I can’t think when some other manufacture than Škoda was on the podium.

“We will be fully and double prepared for this event as it’s also important for our Czech championship bid. The only known thing is that it will be an very exciting and eventful week, I’m very much looking forward to the season highlight.”

Rallye Weiz victory earned Wagner his fifth Austrian crown

Of his latest Austrian title success, Wagner said: “We are also incredibly proud to be able to defend our title with our new package, and we are thrilled to bring Hyundai its first Austrian championship title. A huge thank you to Hanna, our Hyundai engineer Damian, and the entire team for the fantastic work and an incredible year so far. Without the tireless efforts of everyone involved, this definitely wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks also to Hyundai Austria and Hyundai Motorsport for their support, as well as Michelin for perfect tyres. And to all sponsors, supporters and fans on the stages.”

Barum Czech Rally Zlín is a counting round of both the European and Czech championships, meaning the prospect of extremely strong competition is even higher than usual.

Yoane Wissa transfer news: Brentford striker leaves Portugal training camp amid Newcastle, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest interest

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has left the team’s pre-season base in Portugal amid growing uncertainty over his future.

BBC Sport has learned the 28-year-old has returned to London from the Bees’ training camp.

Wissa will now hold talks with Brentford director of football Phil Giles with a trio of Premier League clubs keen on him.

Newcastle, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are among those with a firm interest in the DR Congo international.

All three clubs can offer him European football next season and it is understood agreeing personal terms, particularly with either Tottenham or Newcastle – whose efforts to land Wissa have intensified in the last 48 hours – will not be an issue.

Wissa is understood to have been unsettled by the speculation regarding his future in recent weeks.

He is expected to join back up with the team upon their return to London if he continues to be a Brentford player.

The outcome of the meeting is likely to be pivotal towards how Brentford approach resolving Wissa’s future.

Six rising star swimmers to watch

Lani Pallister (AUS) – Another Aussie to keep an eye on in Singapore is 23-year-old Lani Pallister.

Pallister was part of Australia’s gold medal-winning 4x200m freestyle relay team at Paris 2024, but 2025 feels like her time, individually.

At the Australian world trials, she swam a 15:39.14 in the 1500m, making her the third-fastest woman of all time behind only American Katie Ledecky and Denmark’s Lotte Friis.

A superlative she had been targeting.

“I was looking at the rankings and Lotte is one that stood for a long time, obviously only behind Katie,” said Pallister, according to Swimming World Magazine. “But that’s 10 seconds faster than my best time from three years ago; it’s nice getting a little bit of progress. It’s one of those events where you can plateau for so long, but it’s nice to have the big drop.”

She is also third-fastest in the 800m behind Ledecky and fellow swimming superstar Summer McIntosh of Canada, setting up an exciting battle at the global event.

Sara Curtis (ITA) – Italy’s Sara Curtis is another Paris 2024 Olympian looking to make a big splash in Singapore.

In her debut Games, she finished 14th in the women’s 50m freestyle, a finish that’s motivating the 18-year-old, who in April committed to swim for the University of Virginia.

“Paris was a dream for me, and not being able to reach the final, I was disappointed,” she said in an interview with SwimSwam.

Heading into the World Championships, she’s buoyed by a 24.43 swim in the 50m free that set the Italian record in April.

“Knowing that this time would have made it to the final is really nice,” said Curtis. “It means I’m working well.”

This week the Major League Rugby End of Year Awards are being announced.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR | PAULA BALEKANA, NEW ENGLAND FREE JACKS

If it were not for Paula Balekana, you can question whether or not the New England Free Jacks would have lifted a third successive Major League Rugby title.

That is how important the wing is to his team.

In the Eastern Conference Final, the Fijian’s last-ditch tackle to dislodge the ball from the hands of Chicago Hounds center Bryce Campbell went a long way to hand New England momentum in the contest as they registered a 21-20 win.

In 2025 the 32-year-old was in electric form for Ryan Martin’s team, scored 15 tries in 14 appearances and made 921 meters from 130 carries.

Such was Balekana’s unerring ability to have an impact on any game which he played, his coaches felt little choice but to build the wing abilities into the way they play.

“He’s been crucial,” Ryan Martin, New England head coach, said ahead of the Championship Final. “We’ve made a high priority around maximizing his involvement in our team.

“There’s no hiding the fact that we design a lot of our strike plays around what he can bring for us.

“We just need him to express his personality on the field. He plays aggressively and we just back that.”

The wing joins Free Jacks teammates past and present, Beaudin Waaka, Jayson Potroz and Wayne van der Bank, in winning the award.

It is also the fourth year in a row that a New England player has taken the prize.

Part of the furniture for the entirety of the Free Jacks’ time as North American champions, anything that Balekana tried came off stupendously and has received the most coveted individual prize in the competition due to this.

The Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), which brought together the top domestic T20 teams from around the world, is set to make a comeback, and this time, it could be bigger and better.According to Cricbuzz, members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), who met during the ICC Annual Conference in Singapore, have formally agreed to revive the tournament. If everything goes to plan, the league could be back as early as next year. Officials from various cricket boards are expected to meet soon to finalise the structure of the league. One of the key challenges will be managing teams with common owners across different countries. As per the report, a Governing Council or a Board will likely be formed to oversee the tournament, similar to the previous format.

‘Cricketers Aren’t Cattle… ‘: Harish Thawani on the IPL and Business of Indian Cricket

Another hurdle is deciding on the format, size and scope of the competition. When the CLT20 was discontinued in 2015, franchise leagues existed only in a few major cricketing nations. A decade later, the global T20 landscape has changed drastically. Today, there are close to a dozen prominent leagues across the globe.

    Poll

Do you think the revival of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) is a good idea?

Finding a suitable window in an already packed international calendar will also be a major task. The BCCI and the Indian Premier League (IPL) are expected to take the lead once again. Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa may also play a key role. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which did not participate in the previous CLT20, is likely to be involved this time. Now, nearly a decade later, the revival will start from scratch. The tournament was first launched in 2009 but was called off after the 2014 edition. In 2015, broadcaster Star Sports proposed shutting down the league and offered a compensation package.
