Official: Barcelona starting lineup against Levante – Rashford, Casado in

FC Barcelona will look to make it two wins in two matches in the 2025/26 La Liga season when they take on UD Levante tonight.

Ahead of kickoff at Ciutat de Valencia, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has announced the starting lineup for the match with two major changes made.

The first big alteration comes in the attacking line, where new signing Marcus Rashford makes his first official start for the Blaugrana, coming in as the left-winger.

This move sees Raphinha move into the central attacking midfield role, with Flick opting not to choose Dani Olmo or Fermin Lopez. Ferran Torres continues as the striker with Lamine Yamal on the right flank.

Meanwhile, the second big change sees Marc Casado make his first appearance of the season after not being given any minutes in the opener against Mallorca.

The Spanish midfielder replaces Frenkie de Jong, who has been left out of the squad following the birth of his second child this week. Pedri continues in his role in midfield, meaning Gavi is on the bench yet again.

There are no alterations at the back as Flick has gone with Eric Garcia as his right-back again, with Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, and Alejandro Balde completing the defensive unit in front of new signing Joan Garcia in goal.

President tried to snag FIFA’s World Cup trophy for his Oval Office, snubbed by FIFA President

US President Donald Trump, 79, attempted to hold onto the FIFA World Cup trophy when it was being displayed in the Oval Office on Friday, but FIFA President Gianni Infantino denied saying that the Trophy must remain ready for the next tournament’s winners.

GIANNI INFANTINO: “Since you are a winner, of course, you can as well touch it.”

Trump started insisting he is not giving it back, as everyone in the office burst into laughter. FIFA President Infantino, chuckling nervously, said that he can keep it but has to give it back to the next winner.

TRUMP: “Seriously, it fits very well on the wall right over there. We’ll put it right below the angels.”

He used the meeting to showcase his newly lavish, gold-heavy Oval Office décor—likened to a “cut-price Palace of Versailles”.

Trump has previously taken possession of the FIFA Club World Trophy from Infantino it still sits at the Oval Office. As a result, the winning club, Chelsea, received a replica only.

Trump still couldn’t stop obsessing over the historic trophy’s beauty. “I can’t tell you how much that gold costs—a lot of money. There’s nothing like gold, and there’s nothing like solid gold.”

Still, Infantino presented Trump with an oversized cardboard version of the “first ticket” for next year’s tournament final, which will be hosted outside New York City. Gianni Infantino was at the White House to announce that Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Centre will host the Final Draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA have also opened an office at the Trump Tower in New York City for the preparation of next year’s tournament.

Infantino went on to praise the below-average US men’s soccer team, currently ranked at 15th, even behind Mexico. Infantino reluctantly said that the US team had a chance at winning the tournament.

  • Iyer likely to replace Sharma as ODI captain

Iyer likely to replace Sharma as ODI captain

    KARACHI:

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Friday dismissed reports that Shreyas Iyer could succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain, calling them ‘news to me’ and clarifying that no discussions on the matter have taken place.

Speaking to the Indian media, Saikia emphasised that so far, no discussions have been held regarding the ODI captaincy.

“That’s news to me. There have been no such discussions,” Saikia said.

Shreyas Iyer, who has led multiple IPL franchises to consecutive finals, including topping India’s run charts in the 2025 Champions Trophy, has been viewed by many as a strong candidate to lead the national side.

Notably, Iyer was also excluded from India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

For the unversed, the 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 was announced last week, with Suryakumar Yadav retained as captain and Shubman Gill returning as vice-captain of the T20I side.

It is pertinent to mention that the eight-team tournament will commence on September 9 with the opening match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

The competition features eight teams divided into two groups. Group A includes arch-rivals Pakistan and India, along with UAE and Oman, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

India will kick off their campaign against UAE in Dubai on September 10, followed by a much-anticipated encounter with Pakistan on September 14, before concluding the group stage against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice captain), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube , Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy , Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson.

Reserve players: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

  • Tottenham beat Man City: Why manager Thomas Frank could be Spurs’ best signing of summer

Tottenham beat Man City: Why manager Thomas Frank could be Spurs’ best signing of summer

The mood at Spurs has been peculiar this summer.

After the high of winning the Europa League at the end of last season, supporters were desperate for the side to kick on after a 17th place finish in the Premier League.

But Mohammed Kudus, a £50m signing from West Ham, and Joao Palhinha, a season-long loan signing from Bayern Munich, have been the only additions to the first-team squad since Postecoglou’s departure.

On the club’s pre-season tour, captain Son Heung-min said farewell to the club, while James Maddison suffered a knee injury that has ruled him out of the majority of the season.

Supporters have then had to deal with the ignominy of the collapse of two deals for high-profile transfer targets.

The club activated a £60m release clause in Morgan Gibbs-White’s contract at Nottingham Forest, only for the England midfielder to sign a new deal with the club less than a week later.

Spurs then thought they had tied up a deal for England winger Eberechi Eze, only for the Crystal Palace playmaker to choose rivals Arsenal at the 11th hour.

“What is 100% sure is that we brought two top players into the club – Kudus and Palhinha – and both of them have performed very well,” said Frank.

“And Palhinha, wow. You know, sometimes players need confidence, and they need to be on top.”

Club chairman Levy has been criticised following the collapse of the Eze deal and for the club’s transfer failings this summer.

There seemed to be added venom to the chants of “Levy out” from the 3,000-strong away following at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

But it was Levy’s decision to part with Postecoglou and to hire Frank.

Ronaldo breaks unique record but Al Nassr lose Saudi Super Cup to Al-Ahli | Football News

Cristiano Ronaldo is first player to score 100 goals for four professional clubs but Al Nassr lose final to Al-Ahli.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 100 competitive goals for four different clubs, though Al Nassr lost to Al-Ahli in a penalty shootout after the Saudi Super Cup final ended 2-2.

The first half strike at Hong Kong Stadium on Saturday took the 40-year-old to his century for the Saudi Arabian club, which he joined in December 2022.

It adds to his 450 goals for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United and 101 for Juventus and moves Ronaldo ahead of the three players who had scored 100 times for three clubs: Isidro Langara, who played in Spain from 1930 to 1948, as well as Brazilian stars Romario and Neymar.

Ronaldo, who has yet to win a major trophy in Saudi Arabia, is also the leading international goalscorer with 138 goals for Portugal.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner put Al Nassr ahead after 41 minutes with a penalty, though Franck Kessie quickly equalised for Al-Ahli.

With seven minutes remaining, Marcelo Brozovic restored Al Nassr’s lead, but there was still time for Brazilian defender Ibanez to head home a corner and take the game into a penalty shootout.

Ronaldo scored once more from the spot, but his teammate Abdullah al-Khaibari did not, and Al-Ahli won 5-3 to lift the first trophy of the Saudi Arabian season.
