Family pay tribute to Oasis fan Lee Claydon who died at Wembley

Family members of an Oasis fan who died when he fell from a height at the band’s concert at Wembley Stadium have paid tribute to him as “a loving family man”.

Lee Claydon, from Bournemouth, “was taken from us far too soon and we will miss him so very much”, his brother Aaron wrote.

“Our family has been turned upside down and are struggling to deal with this devastation and unexpected loss.”

On Sunday, police said a man in his 40s “was found with injuries consistent with a fall” and was pronounced dead at the scene at the stadium in London.

Aaron Claydon wrote on Facebook: “Still in shock and cannot believe I am writing this, but sadly over the weekend I lost my best mate the man I looked up to and the man I was lucky enough to call my brother Lee Claydon.”

A GoFundMe page he has set up for his brother’s partner and sons has raised more than £4,500.

On Facebook, Shannon Gabrielle wrote: “My cousin Lee tragically passed away this weekend after no doubt having the time of his life at the Oasis concert this weekend.

“Most will have seen snippets in the news I’m sure & as you can imagine it has devastated the whole family and for his closest knit family unit it’s the toughest time they are going through ever right now.”

She added: “You just don’t fathom you will go out for a night of amazing fun & not come home at the end of it.”

Mr Claydon reportedly fell from an upper tier.

On Sunday, Oasis said in a statement they were “shocked and saddened” to hear of the death of a fan.

They added: “Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”

The band began the Oasis Live ’25 reunion tour in July. Saturday’s concert was one of seven sold-out reunion concerts at Wembley, which has a 90,000-person capacity across three tiers.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage.”

Wembley Stadium said in a statement that medics, police and the London Ambulance service had attended to the injured man.

“Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers,” the venue said.

The band will next appear at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium for three gigs over the next week and then take their tour to Ireland, Canada, the US and Mexico before returning to Wembley on 27 and 28 September.

  • OpenAI Just Released Its First Open-Weight Models Since GPT-2

OpenAI Just Released Its First Open-Weight Models Since GPT-2

OpenAI just dropped its first open-weight models in over five years. The two language models, gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, can run locally on consumer devices and be fine-tuned for specific purposes. For OpenAI, they represent a shift away from its recent strategy of focusing on proprietary releases, as the company moves towards a wider, and more open, group of AI models that are available for users.

“We’re excited to make this model, the result of billions of dollars of research, available to the world to get AI into the hands of the most people possible,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in an emailed statement. Both gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b are officially available to download for free on Hugging Face, a popular hosting platform for AI tools. The last open-weight model released by OpenAI was GPT-2, back in 2019.

What sets apart an open-weight model is the fact that its “weights” are publicly available, meaning that anyone can peek at the internal parameters to get an idea of how it processes information. Rather than undercutting OpenAI’s proprietary models with a free option, cofounder Greg Brockman sees this release as “complementary” to the company’s paid services, like the application programming interface currently used by many developers. “Open-weight models have a very different set of strengths,” said Brockman in a briefing with reporters. Unlike ChatGPT, you can run a gpt-oss model without a connection to the internet and behind a firewall.

Both gpt-oss models use chain-of-thought reasoning approaches, which OpenAI first deployed in its o1 model last fall. Rather than just giving an output, this approach has generative AI tools go through multiple steps to answer a prompt. These new text-only models are not multimodal, but they can browse the web, call cloud-based models to help with tasks, execute code, and navigate software as an AI agent. The smaller of the two models, gpt-oss-20b, is compact enough to run locally on a consumer device with more than 16 GB of memory.

The two new models from OpenAI are available under the Apache 2.0 license, a popular choice for open-weight models. With Apache 2.0, models can be used for commercial purposes, redistributed, and included as part of other licensed software. Open-weight model releases from Alibaba’s Qwen as well as Mistral also operate under Apache 2.0.

Publicly announced in March, the release of these open models was initially delayed for further safety testing. Releasing an open-weight model is potentially more dangerous than a closed-off version since it removes barriers around who can use the tool, and anyone can try to fine-tune a version of gpt-oss for unintended purposes.

In addition to the evaluations OpenAI typically runs on its proprietary models, the startup customized the open-weight option to see how it could potentially be misused by a “bad actor” who downloads the tool. “We actually fine-tuned the model internally on some of these risk areas,” said Eric Wallace, a safety researcher at OpenAI, “and measured how high we could push them.” In OpenAI’s tests, the open-weight model did not reach a high level of risk, as measured by its preparedness framework.

  • Sony’s noise-canceling WH-1000XM6 are discounted to their Prime Day low

Sony’s noise-canceling WH-1000XM6 are discounted to their Prime Day low

With back-to-school season in full swing, it feels like we’re stumbling on great deals for students every day. From Kindles to MacBooks, many of our favorite gadgets are currently receiving a discount — including Sony’s latest noise-canceling headphones, the WH-1000XM6. Right now, you can pick them up at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target for around $428 ($20 off), which is a modest discount but also the best one we’ve seen outside of Amazon’s four-day Prime Day event in July.

The XM6 are some of the best noise-canceling headphones available. With upgraded drivers and a new chip, they deliver even better sound than the last-gen XM5, more powerful active noise cancellation, and clearer voice calls. You can also now (finally) charge the headphones while listening to them, though you’ll need to use two cables — one USB-C and a 3.5mm — since Sony still doesn’t support audio over USB-C. Sony has also resurrected the travel-friendly foldable design last seen on the XM4, while widening the headband to reduce pressure.

What’s more, Sony has included all the features we loved in previous models. The transparency mode sounds as natural as ever, and the battery life lasts an impressive 30 hours on a single charge with ANC enabled. You also get conveniences like multipoint Bluetooth support, making it easy for multitaskers to switch between devices.

  • Rod Stewart faces backlash for AI video of Ozzy Osbourne taking selfies with other dead musicians

Rod Stewart faces backlash for AI video of Ozzy Osbourne taking selfies with other dead musicians

Rod Stewart is facing criticism after an AI tribute video depicting Ozzy Osbourne taking selfies with other dead musicians was screened at his concert on Friday.

Stewart was performing “Forever Young” at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, Georgia, as part of his “One Last Time” tour when the video was displayed on a large screen.

The video featured Osbourne holding a selfie stick in what appears to be heaven, standing beside various other late artists. The video shows XXXTentacion, Prince, Tina Turner, Kurt Cobain, Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and Freddie Mercury.

Clips of the video circulated on the internet and garnered criticism from many.

“‘Why is this disrespectful?’ I’m going to use AI to make a video of your dead grandma breakdancing in heaven with princess diana and put it on a giant screen as part of my tour that people paid money to see and I’m gonna do it without your knowledge or permission,” one commenter wrote under a snippet of the video posted to Instagram.

Some commenters suggested that the use of AI is connected to age. Stewart is 80 years old.

“Boomers love Ai,” the commenter wrote. “You know someone like 65 is filming this at the other side of the venue and crying.”

Some fans left comments on Stewart’s social media posts expressing their support for the tribute video.

“LOVED the tribute at your concert,” one fan wrote under one of Stewart’s Instagram posts.

Another commenter, who said they were at the concert, called the tribute “tasteful and heartfelt.”

“I was impressed by the entire show and tribute,” the commenter wrote.

Representatives for Stewart and Osbourne did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Stewart shared a post on Instagram memorializing Osbourne the day his death was announced.

“Bye, bye Ozzy. Sleep well, my friend. I’ll see you up there — later rather than sooner,” the statement read.

Stewart is continuing his “One Last Time” tour, with his next performance scheduled to be in Brandon, Mississippi.

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day Set Videos Tease Return to Practical Web-Swinging After Relying on CGI for Past MCU Movies

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Set Videos Tease Return to Practical Web-Swinging After Relying on CGI for Past MCU Movies

Spider-Man: Brand New Day filming is underway, and fans are happy to see it will finally include some form of practical web-swinging.

Videos of a return for Tom Holland’s wall-crawler swung their way onto the internet over the weekend, showing a sneak peek at several potential action scenes coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie ahead of its premiere next year. While these behind-the-scenes videos from the shoot in Glasgow, Scotland, have mostly focused on Spider-Man riding tanks and greeting fans, the latest footage teases a more realistic take on one of Spidey’s favorite forms of travel.

While Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home, and other previous Spider-Man MCU outings usually relied on CGI when it came to web-swinging (if there was ever any swinging at all), Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks like it will feature practical web travel on more than one occasion. Highlights from the clips crawling all over social media include Peter Parker swinging above that aforementioned tank both, presumably, to chase the vehicle while also dodging some nearby explosions.

Practical web-swinging in Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks like a far cry from the computer-generated effects seen previously, but more importantly, it’s a sign that Marvel Studios finally wants to give fans something they’ve been begging for. Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man’s three main MCU movies, was blunt when it came to his feelings about practical web-swinging in comments offered last year: “It doesn’t look good when someone is just swinging on a rope.”

“You think you’re gonna go in there, you’re like, ‘We’re gonna do it all practical. We’re gonna get a stuntman. We’re gonna be swinging around,’” Watts told Collider. “It’s boring. It looks dumb. It looks like a monkey swinging on a vine when you put someone on just a rope. Don’t waste your time. That’s my advice to the next Spider-Man director.”

Fans were quick to point to positive examples of practical web-swinging execution at the time, including Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies in the conversation. Now that it seems Spider-Man: Brand New Day will implement at least some level of practical web-swinging, fans can’t help but share their excitement for what’s to come.

It was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton who eventually landed the Spider-Man: Brand New Day director spot. Time will tell if his crack at practical web-swinging will pan out, but it’s clear it’s a move that has kicked up quite the conversation among MCU movie fans.

In other Spider-Man: Brand New Day news, we recently learned that, alongside Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Holland, the July 31, 2026, MCU movie will see the return of Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan (aka Scorpion). Marvel Studios also took the time to release a set of suit teasers, revealing both an up-close (and brief) look at Spidey’s new threads and a clip of Holland wearing the suit.

LONDON: Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab discussed various topics with his Turkish counterpart, Ali Yerlikaya, during his official visit to Ankara this week.

The two ministers explored ways to strengthen security cooperation and coordination, in addition to supporting and developing Syrian security institutions.

Khattab highlighted the status of Syrian nationals who sought refuge in Turkiye during the civil war, calling for continued cooperation with Ankara to ensure their safe return home, the SANA agency reported.

Yerlikaya wrote on X that his meeting with Khattab focused on providing essential support to the security and related units of the Syrian Interior Ministry.

“(We discussed) sharing experience and providing an intensive training program and cooperating on the return of Syrians under temporary protection in our country,” he said.

Gold Gains as Weaker Economic Data Boosts Fed Rate Cut Bets

(Bloomberg) — Gold edged higher on Tuesday, building on three days of growth amid expectations the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next month after a spate of weaker economic data.

US President Donald Trump’s trade wars and tension surrounding his looming deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to end his full-scale invasion of Ukraine has also provided momentum for gold.

“Fears of a slowdown in the US economy along with concerns about rising inflation amid Trump’s tariffs are driving increased demand for gold,” ING Groep NV strategist Ewa Manthey said. “With US fed rate cuts now intensifying, gold’s bullish momentum could grow, sending gold to fresh highs.”

Spot gold traded near $3,379 an ounce in London, up 0.2%.

Traders are increasingly pricing in US rate cuts to bolster the US economy after weaker data, including a Monday report from the Institute for Supply Management that showed the services sector effectively stagnated in July as firms — faced with tepid demand and rising costs — reduced headcount. That comes after data out last week showed a much weaker labor market than previously thought after revisions to May and June, while inflation-adjusted consumer spending barely rose.

Lower rates typically boost the price of gold, which doesn’t pay interest.

“I think it will be the Fed cutting rates that could be the catalyst to push gold to another record,” Manthey added. “I think gold has further room to run. Geopolitical risks remain elevated, Trump’s trade war is still going on and ETF holdings continue to expand. The bullish drivers are there.”

Bullion has gained nearly 30% this year amid Trump’s campaign to slap tariffs on imports and geopolitical conflicts, along with central bank buying and bets on rate cuts. Investors and analysts see more gains ahead, with Fidelity International forecasting bullion could hit $4,000 an ounce by the end of next year.

Citigroup Inc. also revised its forecast for gold, with analysts now predicting bullion will rally to a record high in the near term due to a worsening US economy and inflation-boosting tariffs. But many expectations for gold to break out of its range bound trading following April’s $3,500 high haven’t come to fruition even with the slew of uncertainty in both the economy and geopolitical outlook.

“Despite all these gold-positive arguments, the gains of the precious metal remain limited,” Commerzbank Research wrote on Tuesday. “We continue to see gold fundamentally well-supported, but it is clear that the momentum we saw particularly in the first quarter has dissipated. This is also evident in the fact that gold traded ‘sideways’ despite significantly increased US rate cut expectations since April,” the note said.
